I'm not going to weigh in on the logic of either side's arguments, but I will ask that everyone read over what they write and really consider if the words they used are polite and won't be inflammatory intentionally or not. You cant account for people's tolerances perfectly but at least try to say your piece without saying things that can be easily construed as overly dismissive of the other side of the argument, thank you.

I'm surprised no-one has mentioned teaching as a potential niche for Ancestor Snorri. It's something he already excels at that doesn't fall under Thungni's domain, plus he's already started spreading his teaching methods to both his students and Lorna. If we really wanted to claim major ancestorhood we'd need to be known for teaching both a large quantity of students as well as producing exceptional runesmiths and ensure Snorri's teaching style is spread not just to other runesmiths but is accepted by the other trades as well. The Hearth Guard could help there I think as teaching should fall within their remit, we could encourage them to take on apprentices and guide their teaching ourself. Give us a few millenia and I could see Snorria the Ancestor God of Teaching as a thing.

I'd say there's a chance we could take the War of Vengeance in the other direction. Say Malekith stays adventuring with the dwarfs for a lot longer than canon because there's more dwarflands to go through and they go east for a bit. He avoids the chaos bits that made him more of a dick and actually becomes even better friends with the dwarfs.

When he fails to get the throne, he goes to build support in the colonies and pays a visit to his dwarf friends to ask for support retaking the throne. Malekith successfully convinces the high king at the time that his throne was stolen and he's the rightful king and thus the War begins but this time it's on the opposite side.

Bam, an elf/dwarf/bird tide sweeps over Ulthuan and Malekith becomes the Phoenix King neatly avoiding wrecking either empires.

Also that is a way of being an Ancestor in that we actually have lots of descendants. Oddly enough most the other other big name runesmiths are somewhat low on students.

Thungni doesnt have teaching in his purview because teaching and apprenticeship transcend Runesmithing, they're foundational to almost all forms of Dwarf Life. If anything that's certainly something Valaya, Grungni and Grimnir have a better shot at having under their purview. Like just to be clear, apprenticeship and teaching are so fundamental to Dwarf society that for you to alter the way its perceived and done will take a lot. Your teaching style is one among many, and though you have had a lot of students comparatively, you're not at the tippity tip-top in terms of quantity either.

Just cuz I haven't named them doesn't mean they don't exist. These people literally built the institutions you partake in, they have had a lot of students over their lives.
 
Seems to me that Snorri marrying the Everqueen would achieve all of your objectives:

(a) It would be a massive diplomatic coup, a feat of alliance-building worthy of Ancestor God status.

(b) Valaya the Mother would be very happy to land a big marriage under her belt, and would lend her support towards Snorri's campaign for Ancestor Godhood.

(c) Imagine all the Tier 6 and Tier 7 stuff Snorri could make if he could blend the Everqueen's magic into his Runecraft.

(d) A marital alliance between two of the leading figures of their respective groups would pre-empt and prevent any Malekith-initiated attempts to spread dissension between the Elgi and Dawi.
 
@Soulcake, does Karag Dum itself appear to be experiencing time dilation in comparison to "normal", or is it just the area around Dum and inside they are moving at the standard rate?

I doubt it. They have been building this ritual for a long time, such things are fundamentally obvious. They are probably expecting us to make stopping it a priority yes, but the ritual is not bait, its the enemies' win condition.

Its kinda SOP for chaos to have some big obvious super important ritual. Faking one would be a clever trick, but this is one that been in the works for to long to be a fake.

I'm talking about marriage. Romance need not enter into it.

Ancestor Gods are better than Elders at doing thing, just as Elders are better than Beardlings, so Snorri being an Ancestor God would help him craft better items.

Ancestor Gods also have more influence, so Snorri being an Ancestor God would help him change or disregard inconvenient Dawi traditions like the Rule of Pride or the restriction against mass production of prosthetics.

Not intending to be that guy, but this is completely backwards both to what I've thought Ancesto Godship is and what Soulcake said but one or two pages back.

Ancestor Gods aren't better than Elders because they are Ancestor Gods.

Ancestor Gods became Ancestor Gods by being better than other Elders. And that's not to say it's impossible for a hyper-specialised Elder to ever be better than an Ancestor God while the Elder is working in its own specialty, just darn unlikely.

I mean, becoming an Ancestor God is a thing that happens, just look at those not among the original three.

Not a direkt trap, more of a bad end. The demon will be anlished, and far too powerfull, for mere Runelord to overcome. Right choise would be to make a full back, to return on a later date with lots of heroes.
