I have to ask are you happy with the trait that we got from picking that lesson?
I know you got threadbanned and can't answer this, but I wanted to say this anyways...
I personally
love our upgrade.
The timing of it was complete shit, yeah, but the trait itself is amazing.
Life of Arete was about individual excellence. An Artisan should work to be the best artisan he can be, or a warrior should always strive to reach perfection. They would, of course, invest in things that would let them be more excellent, but in general it was a solitary thing. You would train and work until you had a top tier skill, and then you would push that skill to the limit.
DGE goes beyond that. It's no longer just the individual who strives to perfection, but the whole group. A blacksmith doesn't just seek to make himself the best, but also his assistants. He demands that he have the best possible apprentices to feed his forges, the best possible journeymen to help him temper the metal. He wants the best possible miners to mine the best possible ore, so he can push his craft to its limit.
With our government, it's even better. Now it's not just the Patrician leaders who are important, but also the complete support group. A king must be the best he can be at his job, but he also has to have the best advisors, generals,
everyone.
It's an amazing trait, even if the mechanical effects aren't as good as we might wish, and the con is painful right now. Even then though, not being able to suppress the ruling class can be balanced as long as we keep 2 other factions near the Patricians in terms of power, so they can't just do anything they want. So even that con isn't too bad.
