How do we decide if the thread prefers that? Luckily the QMs are easy: @eaglejarl @Velorien Are you looking for a long plan that incorporates something like a month of downtime or would it be better just do the travel bit and the immediate social actions now?
I don't have very much time this week, and would prefer a more narrowly-focused plan. @eaglejarl is cool with same.

Sorry, what's the actual question?

What if we left NOW and made camp in Hidden Swamp (or similar location in Fire)? Then we could do scouting things for Iron and have a relatively safe place in the meantime.
Ah, found you. Had me worried there for a sec. Though I might've imagined this post, and wouldn't that be awkward.

Also consider: Akane gets a look at our (second) place of origin. We can tell her all about- well, not all. But the nice bits were nice.

E: Oh also have you looked for any software that makes family trees?
Seems to me that would be more common and easily adapted.
Well now I want an over-the-top, literal tech tree, with branches and leaves and flowers and shit.

Sorry, what's the actual question?
Or we could stay here, level the rest of the building, and try to pin the blame on "the Liberator's movement". How much are we willing to bet on Mari's bluff check?
He wants to know Mari's reaction.

Oh, did you want me to speak up? My mistake.:p

At level 15, all further progress is done through specialisations, such as "trapmaking" or "civil engineering". Multiple specialisations can be pursued, but must be paid for separately and do not stack.

We're still figuring out how much a given number of dice gets you in terms of things you can create/achieve, and would like to invite suggestions from you guys about what different levels of Mechanical Aptitude should be able to do.

Let me suggest some specializations and stuff that might be done with them.

Weaponcrafting - At highest levels allows you to work with chakra-active material and craft weapons that can channel chakra. At lower levels allows you to produce reinforced weapons personally designed and weighted for an individual combat style and able to take the rigor of ninja combat.

Traps - Not sure where to go other than "harder to spot" and "harder to avoid".

Radio Technology - The principles of radio actually have been discovered but crafting remote communication devices is a closely held secret and each unit must be hand-built along with its batteries. At lower levels units are backpack-size or bigger... only "portable" because ninja have superhuman strength. At max level you can custom-build headset radios that allow an entire team to coordinate while spread out over a forest. (QMs might veto this one, but I thought I'd try it.)

Architecture - Incorporate traps, hidden passages, and choke points into a building. Also handles lock design and lock-picking. And designing buildings, of course.

Puppetry - Used to build combat puppets that can be controlled with chakra strings.

Clockwork - Used to create clockwork mechanics. Primarily used for constructing clocks and watches that allow coordination down to the second and make navigation much easier at night and over sea. At high levels can construct clockwork-powered tools that are able to move and act on their own to some extent.

[jk] Giant Moon Destroying Death Lasers - Used to construct giant lasers that can destroy the moon. Of course that's at the highest level. You have to start small with lasers able to destroy only smaller asteroids.

Dropped my training plans since vote is long enough already and training won't happen anyway. I'd suggest @MadScientist and @1234qwerty do the same, since we're apparently going for arrival+talk combo after all, no matter the winning plan. So...

@Velorien do we buy MechApt specialization a starting from level one, or do we buy them as if there were level 16? (i.e. How does the XP cost scale?)

I think he is looking for ideas and feedback on how to balance that.

@eaglejarl The tally is currently missing my plans and the people who voted for them...Don't tell me you finally got fed up with my whining and just put me on ignore?

(EDIT: Those are the plan I noticed you missed, the bot also missed @Muer'ci's plan, posted below this one)

I tried to gather all the instances of people voting for my plans here, but I might have missed someone:

[X] Debrief Plan: Pit Crew Management
  1. Have a team meeting about what went right and what went wrong during the mission
    • Wrong
      • Shady employers are bad
      • DMZ are a very serious thing
      • Don't enter closed spaces without a proper exit strategy or three
      • Next time, we really need to prioritize not causing collateral damage
    • Right
      • Infiltration went well
      • Scouting went well (gj Noburi!)
      • Break-in went well (gj Akane!)
      • All things said, combat against two CQC jounin went extremely well (gj Keiko!)
    • What does the party want to do next?
    • How is the general mood of the party?
  2. Talk to Keiko about her confession and make sure she is okay
    • Hazou doesn't really have any advice or wise words, but he insists that Keiko talks about what happened with a team member
    • Tell Kagome that we are a bit worried about Keiko, if he can stick close to her for company that might be good

[X] Action Plan: D3 Lite + No MEW

@vali, don't edit your votes, post new ones instead. If your vote is before the actual plan the tally bot doesn't know to link to the right plan. Use [-] tag to remove your previous vote.

[X] Action Plan: D3 Lite

Follow Action Plan: Distract, Defuse, Deescalate but stop the plan once we have made it to Iron, have a preliminary camp, and have had our debrief. Decide on a long term recuperation plan in the next vote.

[X] Action Plan: D3 Lite + No MEW

Follow the Action Plan: D3 Lite but in addition ban permanent MEW usage before we figure out the extent of the manhunt against us.

[X] Debrief Plan: KISS

Once we have a secure place:

  • Now:
  • Story time, to bring Kagome fully into the loop
  • Hugs for hugs-inclined people, respectful nods, back-pats as appropriate.
  • Mad props Kei, for saving the day
  • Where did it all go wrong?
  • How do we make it go right next time?
  • On that note, we gotta learn when to fold it IC (I will say that OOC we got it covered)
    • Baby steps, don't bite more than we can chew, don't get greedy, etc.

  • Later: personal talks, if we can manage it without being heavy-handed, as we have always been up to now. Can be done during the long update, though Keiko is more urgent.
    • Keiko: hang out with Keiko, keep quiet unless she feels like talking. Just draw blanks or something. Silent support might be best we can do at this point, and she'll know we're here to talk to if she wants it. Actually, just plain ask her if she wants to talk. Respect the answer.
      • If we get to talk about her worth to the team, point out how she just saved Mari (and everyone) not through pangolins, but her own power and Mori savvy. She, Keiko did that.
      • Summons are pretty rad tho.
      • If she talks about her crush, point out that no one thinks less of her for it, least of all Mari. We're kinda short on actual, practical advice here tho. Maybe she could talk to Noburi? Hell, maybe she could talk to pangolins? Get a different perspective? If nothing else, it's got to be educational. Maybe even insightful.

    • Noburi: hang out with him for a breath of normality. We're both down for now, might as well. Been a while since we talked to him anyway. See if he has any advice for us. We could use his pespective.

    • Akane: hang out with Akane. Get a hug for her us. Talk about how well she played her role in opening stage. If she mantions what happened after, point out that she certainly didn't do badly. Because she's alive, we all are. And we'll get better yet. Starting now.

    • Mari: We don't want her to die for us, we want her to live. With us. Next time, no heroic sacrifices please. We'd rather learn to protect her better. To begin with, figure out some team tactics for protecting her when she's using Genjutsu.

    • Kagome: Reassure him that we're here, we're not quite fine but we'll get there, and we're not leaving him. We're sorry we got him worried. Meanwhile, we have this puzzle for him, that won't blow up in his face (or at all) and is also suited to his tallents...
      • Keep any Sealing talks strictly theoretical untill we're sufficiently recovered.
  • Something else?

Here's another of mine.

Wait, something's wrong. Where are all the "D3 Lite" votes?

I voted for Muer'ci plan here, but my vote isn't counted. Anyone have a clue what's wrong?

@eaglejarl The tally is currently missing my plans and the people who voted for them...Don't tell me you finally got fed up with my whining and just put me on ignore?
Here's another of mine.

Looking into it now.

I think he is looking for ideas and feedback on how to balance that.
Ah. @Velorien if that's the case, some thoughts on how it could be done:
  • Treat the specializations like a separate skill, buying each up from 1. Mechanically, this seems kind of infeasible, since it will be cheaper to get an extra die in every specialization than it would have been to get MechApt 16 in the absence of specializations
  • Treat specializations like continuations of MechApt, paying full price for each one (e.g. Traps 16 and Architecture 16 cost 16 each). This probably ends up nerfing the skill a little too hard.
  • Borrow from the elemental jutsu mechanic and make buying specialization levels half (or some other fraction, perhaps smaller if there are many specializations) cost up until that specialization equals the highest level the character currently has. So if we buy Traps 16 it costs 16, and then Architecture 16 only costs 8.

Took me a minute to realize what was going on: I run the Counterbot script from the command line, then send the contents to TextEdit to copy/paste into the thread. Unfortunately, if a file is open in TextEdit and you re-open it from the command line, OSX doesn't check if the contents have changed. I had forgotten to close the file the last time I posted a count, so what got posted above was actually the results of the previous tally.

Anyway, I've updated the post above with the correct tally.
