I am always amazed at the intelligence and education of the playerbase here. Which is not a comment on whether or not your deduction is correct, merely a hat tip of respect.
No, it was in fact the English word Canephore derived from the Greek Kanephoros.
Engage with our pack. Trade stories, encourage bonding, integrate ourselves into the group. Play the flute.
Write reports to Cannai.
Respond to briefings from Isan, clan.
Time permitting, write letters to Akane, clan, Hana, Ino. Not every letter needs to be sent immediately - or ever.
Write notes to clan members (civilian and ninja) praising accomplishments - brief, encouraging. Split between traditional and nontraditional (academic etc.) values and pursuits. Also support for individuals experiencing difficulty.
1+3: You may assume that these are happening in the background, although they likely won't be shown onscreen.
2: Reports to Cannai are handled verbally, so that's not happening.
4: There isn't time.

Also, one of your dogs is stationed with Pandā so you still have contact with Keiko and the Isan team, although only once per day.

Unlikely as things stand. If you have time and energy to train, you should be using it to march, scout, check the perimeter, etc. Perhaps if you reach the Arachnids and they do not devour you, you may be able to get some downtime under their protection. Perhaps not. The Isan team, meanwhile, must consider themselves in hostile terrain until the High Priest is dealt with (one way or another) and should not let their guard down.
[X] Ask Gaku to purchase land which we could use to found a village to experiment with more liberal tax codes (balance proximity to Leaf, size, natural resources, fertility) if a decent plot becomes available
How amenable would you be to the suggestion on discord, to use it as a test bed for the more... wide-scale weapons experiments? It'd be the place we unlock EM nukes, and the place we test other things like the SINs, content that the land can't be ruined any worse than it already is.
"Forgive me if I am intrusive," he said, not looking up as he rifled through the papers inside, "but I understand that you are lord of a small fief near the southern end of the Fire/River border? I saw references to it when I was doing research on the tax codes."
Doing any kind of experiment like that close to a border sounds like a bad idea.
[X] DO NOT ask Asuma for permission to ask River about the Kangaroo scroll
I suggested finding out if there is a living Summoner in River or elsewhere. It's been 15 years, that scroll could have easily been recovered by someone. The Kangaroo's might have simple contacted someone and told them the last known location of their Summoner. Asuma knowing nothing about the current status doesn't mean much.
And Asuma actually told us that the last known guy was a Cloud ninja:
"As to the Kangaroos, that's the least certain of all. Enma mentioned meeting the Kangaroo Summoner back about thirty years ago; at the time that was Yoshida Daichi of Cloud. I was Dad's part-time adjutant since before I graduated the Academy; I didn't see all the intelligence reports, but I saw a fair number of them, and I don't remember ever seeing a single current mention of Yoshida, nor any reference to the Kangaroos being summoned. It's weak evidence that he died and the Scroll is lying fallow, possibly lost in the wilderness somewhere."
"Thank you! That's a lot more than I expected to start with."
Asuma nodded but gestured a warning. "Don't read too much into it. Summoning is chakra-intensive and most Summoners are already S-rank ninja. There's a narrow range of battles in which it makes sense to use a Summon; it needs to be an opponent that you cannot defeat on your own, but the chakra cost of Summoning will not cause you to lose the fight. Furthermore, the older reports on Yoshida said that he was assassination-spec. Very stealthy, good at disguises, that kind of thing. It's possible that he's still out there but has changed his identity so as to confuse potential enemies, and has been avoiding using his Summons where they would be seen."
"Anyway, Chizuko went off on a mission and didn't come back. Roll forward to about forty years ago, Zen brought me in for a meeting with the Lord of River Country. The Bouncy Summoner was there; he sat in the background and didn't say a damn thing the whole time. Creepy dude. He was pretty jacked for one of you scrawny little humans, real quiet, had this creepy stare that made me uncomfortable. Never got his name. He liked to stay off the list, too; I asked Zen about him a few times and didn't get much. There were occasional reports of him up until about fifteen years ago, then nothing.
Enma argues that it's the same guy until fifteen years ago, so the only difference is that Asuma said meeting the Summoner 30 years ago and Enma 40, could have been miscommincation between the characters or EJ just making a mistake. No idea why both of his Summoner aren't telling him the name.
Yes, but it is low-impact compared to ordinary chakra reserve training (which also features focused meditation), so you won't be able to invest large amounts of XP in it quickly.

[X] Ask Akane/Gaku to discreetly determine approximately how much debt Noda is in and how she's doing
It's been six months: many of our plans involve 'wow, if only we could TH this' and sniffing around seems worthwhile.
EDIT: can someone cite me Mari still working on her, and the most recent update she's given us? I don't remember it, and (once she's back) bringing it up again seems reasonable; I would like to promote it to QM attention in any case.

Meet the official Marked for Death kitten, Minori.
Minori is eight weeks old, black, and of mixed breed.
Her favourite place to sleep is office chairs, likely because there were two in the room where she was born and spent her early days.
This does not always work out well for her work-from-home owners, since for now she refuses to be touched (maybe we should have named her Keiko after all) and therefore can't simply be lifted off one's lap.
She is a worthy genin, already skilled in the stalk-pounce-drag to safe place-thoroughly dismember cycle, and really too good at snatching dangly things before they can be yoinked away from her. We don't have many photos of that yet, since once she uses chakra boost, she is pretty much a black blur.
Most importantly, she is a gamer kitty. She watches my partner and me play PC games, and bats at the monsters. (I suspect this isn't good for the monitor, but I'm still looking for a protector that isn't designed for laptops.)
Finally, a message from Minori, composed specially for this post:
