[X] Action Plan: Doggy Style
Word Count: 289
  • 7th Path
    • Canvass
      • We are still investigating your ancestor's missing dog group. Could you give us their history to better help find them?
        • How long ago was this? What breed were the dogs? How many dogs were there? What region of the Human path? Any information helps greatly.
      • We may or may not need to do this, but would you be willing to let us summon you one extra time so that you may speak with an Inuzaka directly? They are the experts and it would assure less information is lost in transit
    • Canun and Cannai
      • Meet with Cannai and your summons
        • There is a new member of our pack with injured fingers, Atomu
          • As you know, humans need fingers to cast most of their ninjutsu. We are concerned this affects both his career and his own self-image
          • To the ninjutsu experts present: The Dogs cast their ninjutsu without making handsigns. Is this something a Human can learn?
            • If it is, is it something you would be willing to share with Atomu? He may choose not to pursue it, but if it's possible we would like to be able to give him a chance to try
        • Ask about nearby packs and where they are, and if their Summoner has something to offer to their communities
        • When's the next Taleswap? Are we welcome to attend?
  • Misc
    • Begin research on Strobelight Seals
    • Explain Canvass quest to Gaku when you get back, have him hire ninja to start gathering relevant intel on wild dog packs in Fire
    • Ami-Style training
      • Stamina
        • Wear a harness with a rope during your trip to the 7th path, have Candoru try to tug you in random directions as you make your way around

Changed up wording so we aren't asking "how does it work", just "can it work for Atomu". Do you think that's safer Faflec?

How about we just ask if they think a person can learn it? They don't need to tell us the specifics, we just want to know for Atomu's sake, and whether they would be okay with Atomu knowing it.

I think this would still have the same issues. Anything of any relevance to ninja is a major taboo in the Elemental Nations, to the point where people accidentally any Academy student who lasts long enough to get past their first year, since they know actual secrets (e.g., how to use jutsu). I can't imagine that any different with the Dog Clan in that sense, and we [the outsider former missing-nin Summoner who has known the Dogs for months at best] are asking on behalf of a guy who the Dogs have known for somehow even less time.

Yeah but the dogs aren't like, categorically insane. In fact, they're probably the sanest 'people' we've interacted with in the entire story lol
I think the dogs will be aware that Hazou is asking from a place of compassion (they can smell that sort of thing, right?) so the worst response we'd get is "you haven't earned the right to know yet"/"we would like to meet this ninja and vet him before sharing any kind of secrets with him"

We were actually talking in discord about going on a not-a-date with snowflake next Velorien update, but I also like shikamaru scenes so whatever the people want is good with me
Excuse me, I believe you meant 'an instance of two individuals spending a day together in order to facilitate greater mutual knowledge and familiarity, arranged in anticipation of a potential long-term relationship' with Snowflake. Right?

Yes.

Of course, it is only in keeping with Snowflake's desire to explore her newfound agency, that we shall have to foist the responsibilities of designing the whole of that busy and eventful instance of two individuals spending a day together in order to facilitate greater mutual knowledge and familiarity, arranged in anticipation of a potential long-term relationship, off on her.

The issue isn't the response we'd get (I expect we would get the former, with a pinch of "In addition, <the latter>"), the issue is that internally the Dogs will look down upon us for having asked the question when it should be really fucking obvious that we aren't that trusted yet (i.e., we should know that we aren't that trusted yet), therefore closing doors on us due to us being actually that stupid.

Added another line. I don't expect your votes, but I hope this eases your concern some.

Ninjutsu experts, the dogs cast their ninjutsu without making handsigns. Is this something a Human can learn?
I'm fairly certain Dog jutsu, like Pangolin jutsu, make use of their limbs/digits, which are obviously different from Humans. Maybe you could say instead:
Ninjutsu experts: the dogs cast their ninjutsu without making Human handsigns; is it possible for Humans to use your jutsu without them being adapted?

I'd argue against this, since our goal is clearly to get this knowledge to Atomu which would make it very much a practical question and not an academic one.
*handwaves*

Theres often significant overlap, it just depends on your perspective.

Fair enough, I just had this SiK moment where Hazou did a lie and got chomped since we have a goal in mind and obfuscating our intentions and aieeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Oh yeah for sure.

There's probably a much better way to word that line of inquiry, but spoon budget demands that I not harp on the point too much.

Yes.

Care to bet that this is how we end up joining "Keiko's" harem ?

Late on some of these, it's been busy.

Oh, clearly we need to just move to the 'ol reliable, right?

I actually think we should fix this AND increase relations with Mist by giving Hana a summoning scroll (that we found).

Here is my calculus there:

1) There is a certain threshold of #SummoningScrolls above which everyone else will just decide to take a chance on kicking Leaf's shit in.
2)Mist relations could use some improving.
3)Above almost all individuals save maybe Ami, Hana has probably the most vested interest in Leaf remaining very safe and prosperous— we live there.
4) A happy Hana allows for more wiggle room for Ren than not. On paper, Ren is The Boss(TM) and can order Hana to do anything. In practice, people and loyalties don't work like that. More grease for the wheels is always, always good on the leadership side, especially if its freely given by a third party.
5) This contributes to a variety of factors that benefit Operation Keep Hazou Out Of My Fucking Hair.
6) It allows for some quick trade + communication that supersedes ANBU Prime delivery speeds. Pretty important for allied parties.

If the mist/leaf Alliance is seen as strong and a threat, that only prompts external actions slightly slower than leaf being seen as getting stronger and being allies with mist. Plus, since Leaf is pretty precarious right now (see, recent Rock efforts, bi-monthly Kaiju), leaf getting a little stronger probably solidifies our position more than shakes it.

That said, for me the personal calculus is against Akane getting the scroll, so arguments have to overcome my high barrier of "this makes Akane more relevant, gets her more screentime, makes her happy in character, and paired with FOOM and decent reserves puts her on track to being the scariest person in the world. Which I like". Hana can be interesting, but ClanHead!Hazou, Boyfriend!Hazou, and Halberdier all feel like they'd need a very good argument to give Hana the scroll (on top of the decent argument you already made, since giving an enemy village a scroll is a pretty hard argument to sell. Ami got in noticeable political trouble over that in a less ambiguous circumstance).

Nice

Thread: "We must find a way to invite Ami to Keiko's wedding!"
Lailo: "She's literally standing right behind you."
Thread: "Panic-vote now!"

Thread: "We must pedantically explain basic human relationships to the prodigal social-spec jounin!"
Lailo: "We really don't. This was part of a dance/game and she already knows everything you are about to say."
Thread: "Panic-vote now!"

It's a little disturbing that I seem to be the only one here who has a grasp on The Ami. She is rational, hyper-capable, and just operates on a different goalset. Any plan which involves her and doesn't involve demonstrating a deeper understanding of her, something she couldn't have possibly deduced from available information, or salt and coldshort iron is a waste of everybody's time.

It's been mentioned before, but her analysis of what was happening during the soup incident was neither of Hazou playing a game and giving it up, or even a super accurate reflection of events. It was her trying and failing to deal with Mari while completely discounting a CQC summoner chunin sealmaster in close quarters in his house, which just dumb. And claiming "she considered it but dismissed it so it didn't even get written up" is both unproductively paranoid and does a discredit to the QMs writing of an interesting flawed character.

(I preface the next paragraph with the useless knowledge that I have been awake too long and as such what I intend to say may come out as more rude than intended, but I'll stand by my sentiment when I wake up next, whenever that is.)

Ami is very competent. For sure. And the thread does not have a perfect grasp on her. I certainly don't. But neither do you. And I'm aware of your stance that you are cursed and as such that you shouldn't ever vote or construct plans, and I'm not aware if it is just being a bit related to your not wanting to vote, or an actual logical fallacy. But, I personally do not appreciate you condescending to the hivemind's voting habits when you yourself do not participate at all. That seems rude, and not helpful.

I offered a deal about precommiting votes to your causes, and I believe you blew it off. If you don't want to actually take actions, vote, or make plans, that's fine, but please do not insult those of us actually willing to do so, since the thread members that consistently Make The Plans and Do The Things are, (as well as the amazing QMs) the ones who actually keep this running. So please. Actually vote and participate, and make plans occasionally if you don't like any winning ones, or please stop talking about other people's poor plans. Voting is not a high standard here, and I personally will take your opinions much more seriously if you're an active participant, rather than someone who just says "I told you so" retroactively on some issues out of a swath of predictions.

My apologies for the rant.

I think signaling interest in knowledge while admitting we know it's valuable is fine? Like, wanting to know how much your dream house costs when you're saving up and moderately broke just gives you an estimate on how much work to need to do to be able to get it. People don't think you're stupid for expressing eventual interest in a thing that most people think is valuable, but not everyone would be necessarily willing to invest the capital to buy, y'know?

Hopefully that metaphor makes sense, but if it doesn't: asking about it as a possibility and making clear we appreciate that it's a big deal seems fairly harmless, and we'd be remiss in our duty of care not to at least try.

*raises finger*

To sidestep your poimts a bit, I do think you might have missed one element here, which I think might be worth commenting on.

In my longish tenure as a player in this game, I have often found meaningfully detailed discussion tends to be a good aid in terms of productive playing. The same goes for funny half-serious thrice-intoxicated shitposting (CHAOS suits!).

In my comparatively short tenure on the QM side in such a game, this still holds. I expect this to be mostly the case going forward.

I say this, mostly so that those that might not have the time to keep up with the voting and whatnot but still participate in a nice positive way get their kudos too. : )

Seems to me that Halberdier didn't necessarily have a problem specifically with the not voting, but also denigrating the things that do get passed while not participating

Good post though, and I agree
