Huh. Narrowing in on aluminum specifically would be difficult, but once you have it, applying Raiton jutsu to it to see what happens seems like it would be within the paradigm of alchemy.

Come to think of it, alchemy in general might be a more profitable pursuit in the EN than it was in our world. Given that we can apply chakra and generate fire without burning anything, phlogiston might be real. Although googling suggests that phlogiston was an 18th century theory.
Or maybe we are just generating something to burn
Like hydrogen or something like that.

Makes more sense than the universe working in a diferent way but somehow looking the same when chakra isn't involved

Finally caught myself up (again). Lately, every time there is a fight involving Keiko, I get this mental image:

I will vote for any plan that has us going back to the Swamp Of Death to do research on the flora/fauna and/or to resolve plot hooks like the alpha predator thing.
I thought that it was at the very least strongly hinted that that was Jiraiya observing the proceedings.

Speaking of Swamps of Death, one slightly more advanced form of a till-n-fill mission that we might want to introduce is permanent terrain alteration. I previously posted a proposal, and it's worth figuring out how much of it is feasible and/or is being done already. TL;DR: Drain swamps of death by using doton to dig channels to lower the water table; eliminate forests of death by doing the same to create a localised drought, then katon to start a forest fire, then fuuton to spread it, until it's burnt down; use Wakahisa to drain bodies of water infested by chakra creatures of life, then restock them with useful species; and task medic-nin with creating pesticides or even more advanced pest control techniques.

I don't know if this is the appropriate place to post this, but I did a little bit of reading on this community's attempt at making zeppelins and I haven't seen anything about making hot air balloons so here goes. Both a hand drawn sketch and a very butchered design in paint.

Hand drawn or sketch:

Made in paint, more readable:

Let me know what you think about the design and if it is currently possible to make.

@eaglejarl As a reference, is it reasonable for me to make up things in the grant proposal,as it's intended to be in character, and Hazou would be able to write up things we wouldn't, and I assume you don't want to give us pages'-worth of historical information on the EN, etc.? I won't make up anything that's intentionally usable by us-the-hivemind to dominate the EN, I promise :p

e: No promises on the research as a whole, though.
What sort of things are you looking to create?

Also, a quick reminder that in order to get the award you need to be 100% in compliance with the NSF's grant-writing guidelines, and the QMs need to determine that it would have passed the review process. I disrecommend actually trying to do this; writing a grant takes months of full-time effort. I did promise an XP award if someone did it and I'll back that up, but I said it mostly as a joke, not expecting anyone to go for it. I think it would be a poor use of your time, but I certainly won't stop you.

(I will note that my cofounder, who spent most of the last year working on a grant proposal, was hella amused that this might actually happen.)

----8. By the way, can anyone figure out the system which I use to number footnotes?
You numbered from 1, adding new ones as you went, with most of them being footnotes nested inside footnotes. You had a footnote #7 but did not actually have a [7] in there anywhere -- was that a mistake?

Hello, sorry for bothering you all but I have a few questions about this fan fiction. How does this all work, I mean like how does the plot go, is it anything like the main Naruto canon plot or even remotely like most generic Naruto fanfictions, or will I be thrown out of the loop when I start reading it.
Is this fanfic only about self inserts or does the story develop any characters on Naruto like team 12, and other additional characters of the Naruto universe or is it an RPG fanfic based in Naruto universe and adding rationality.
Also can anybody join in or are all the characters already taken? And are what about rules and laws that are going on in this fanfic, is it explained anyhow, and are there limitations to what we can do with a character, like for example:
(My character) RandomGuy sneaks inside leaf village and steals a young Hyuuga or Uchiha's eyes?

Is that permitted, I mean what are the fundamental laws of this fanfic, like lets say in this universe fire isn't put out by water, you get what I mean, right?
Welcome! Nice to see new people. How did you find out about us?

Other people have answered most of your questions already, but I'll point you to post #2 in the thread, where a lot of information is collected and linked. That includes the rules document, about which some background: When the quest started, the QMs designed a completely homebrew system which has been nicknamed Augjev for the usernames of the creators. It was horrible, and it eventually broke us, so we threw it out. We then spent several months writing interludes while making a bastardized version of the Dresden Files (a variant of FATE) rules that integrated as well as possible with the Augjev rules so that we ended up with as little discontinuity as possible in character builds, jutsu, etc. The new version is (IMO) waaaay more fun and much easier to write for. (Among other reasons, it does not have skill check formula with fractional exponents.)

Yeah, you'll fit in just fine.
I suppose that you find that amusing,
He was being sincere. You are thinking right in sync with the existing playerbase, and even tapping into some of the local memes.

I love that essay so much.

Welcome back!

Are you suggesting that Keiko is the Angel Summoner or the BMX bandit in that situation? :>

pre-update F5s intensifying
Note that there is not currently an update in progress. I don't think I'll have tuits to produce a Keiko/Hazō fight before Wednesday, so either @Velorien will write it or he'll do an interlude and I'll produce the K/F fight thereafter.

Strictly speaking it's still pre-update, but I admit I would be slightly concerned if Cariyaga spent until Thursday pressing F5 obsessively.

Well, first thing's first, I found out about marked for death, from lighting up the dark from Velorien, which I found from the fanfiction Waves Arisen when I was searching for rational Naruto fanfiction. Today actually I have read LUTD from velorien and was interested in seeing what marked for death would be about. And second about this that you said:

[He was being sincere. You are thinking right in sync with the existing playerbase, and even tapping into some of the local memes.]

I guess that was a misunderstanding on my part. :D

Presumably it would be a bit easier to write a grant in this than the real world for various reasons, like there being no extant scientific literature to worry about having to review first.

You underestimate the hivemind's boredom skills! Besides, it's an interesting enough way to make me think through the consequences of chakra quantification: For instance, prior to spending time working on it today I hadn't thought through the political consequences. If Leaf worked it out, then the Wakahisa in Mist would be forced to follow through similarly when OPSEC inevitably broke on it, as well as any clans with similar capabilities.

As far as stuff to create, things like making up academic references for stuff we-the-hivemind know but would require them in a grant proposal, and similar things that Hazou would be able to find out, but we don't know.

This is definitely the right place to post your ideas.

I think air domes are immobile relative to the ground. But heat seals do exist, even if we haven't seen them personally.

If we can find a way to cheaply generate large quantities of airtight cloth, we should be in business.

Thanks for replying, btw has anybody considered solar balloon, their basically giant black plastic bags that you can fill up with air just by running around with it, and the sun heats up the black bags very quickly which makes them fly. So if anyone has any idea how to implement black thin material as an envelope for the hot air balloon or zeppelin maybe?

My personal worry is that the obvious material for dying a black color, cloth, might overheat and possibly catch fire. Though I'm not an expert on the subject matter so this might all be a pile of bullshit.

Beyond that...maybe there's a chakra monster that can help us. Seems to be a reasonable go-to solution.
