TBH we stomped things so bad it might well make sense to avoid the tourney. Our level of domination is probably unprecedented; if there was a precedent the rules would have accounted for it.
- Hazō's was the single most important team─normally by a large margin─in every single round, even the ones we got screwed on,
- Night light seals: we carried the whole group, and they all know we gave up an easy win for it,
- Totally Legal Merchandising: we got scammed half our points, and Mist knows it, yet we still won,
- Where's Wally: not everyone knows it, but we disqualified a quarter of the contestants,
- Just a normal day at T&I: we wiped the map, and, uh,
- Word-half minigame: we wiped the map.
- we were frequently outright selfless, and always open to cooperation, which is a trend that seems to be continuing with word-halves,
- we've very likely gotten the Hokage permanently elected,
- we helped─accidentally, maybe, but still helped─getting major economic deals signed,
- we got a Neji minion,
- we have the mystery behind being the Hokage's impossibly-adopted kids, and
- many of the people whose opinions we care about know we did this after revolutionizing warfare.
Oh, and we got revenge on a teacher.
What would even be the point of going all-in with the tourney? It's surely not like we're going to fail to be chūnin, we will no longer need to worry about getting Jiraiya elected (regardless of how it turns out), and none of our major goals are particularly predicated on being typical ninja. The
risks of putting eggs in the tourney basket are that we have a fresh new chance to mess up or damage our legend (even winning unimpressively would be a downgrade), and that outside of a team it's far harder for us to stomp as hard without revealing secrets.
