Can Ma or Pa check Noburi for genjutsu, break any genjutsu that might be on him, or put him under an overriding genjutsu?

Edit:
We need to change the game. I think it's time to reevaluate Superchillers.
On that note, perhaps we can MAD Akatsuki with Superchillers.
While the terms can be expanded indefinitely, and the trigger decided later, the simplest example would be something like a dead man's switch. Obviously the MAD here would be mree delaying action rather than a final soiution, but time is all we need.
Which also reminds me of the complete absence of actual game theory and MAD from Kei's analysis.
It would be exquisite to smack terms down on Itachi like he does every day.

Well, they do have at least one genjutsu.

@Velorien @Paperclipped @eaglejarl

Is that sound-based attack still a genjutsu or did the world change it to ninjutsu?
"Yep. I'll be fighting with Ma and Pa Toad on my shoulders. They do this sonic genjutsu that will absolutely fuck you up. There's a risk of friendly fire, though, so I'm handing out Banshee Slayers to everyone so that they aren't affected."

Yes @faflec that was what I was referencing. That technique seems incoherent with the modified rules for genjutsu, so I wanted to check to see if it was still considered a Genjutsu.

Ah, apologies. I...don't see why it would change, though.
It's a wide ranging attack that affects multiple people. Seems like it more produces actual sounds than changes your brain-chemistry. Which might have been considered Genjutsu back in the day (and under MoL rules!) but might not right now.

"Later," Kael grumbled. "I haven't even ironed out all the details in my head yet. Stupid spider and her big mandibles…"

"I'm pretty sure her speech didn't involve mandibles in any way, actually," Zorian said. "It was a pure sound illusion."

"Really? Wasn't my mind shield spell supposed to protect me from mind effects like illusions, even if they're beneficial?" asked Kael, frowning in confusion.

"The matriarch's spell wasn't targeting your mind. It created actual sound waves," said Zorian.

"But then it's a sound spell, not an illusion no?" Kael stated more than asked.

"Officially, any spell that creates 'fake' scenery is an illusion, regardless of the means it uses to do so. Many illusions are made primarily out of actual light and sound, but they're still illusions."

"That's… surprisingly imprecise," Kael said.

"I understand it's because a lot of actual structured spells from illusionary disciplines combine mental illusions with… well, let's call them physical ones. Theoretically, you could separate the two into different categories, and many tried, but in the end the Eldemar mage guild decided to just admit defeat and lump them together."

"How surprisingly practical of the Guild, then," Kael said. "I guess even they get an attack of common sense from time to time."

Fair, though I don't imagine that the QMs would retcon some of their previous worldbuilding establishing the existence of sound-based genjutsu and Jiraiya's OC Banshee Slayer seals which work against them.

Idea: Send a note back with Noburi for Itachi. We can say anything we'd like, and he can't interrupt us!

Pros: VERY satisfying, might even help guide the situation in some way.
Cons: Trying to predict Itachi's reaction to anything we want to say may result in an oopsie doodle.

Ideas include:
  • Dear sir, you are a butthole.
  • The truth about researching weapons specifically as Akatsuki countermeasures so that he can't just walk into our clan compound whenever he wants, mindrape our family and steal all our secrets, as he seems to be doing right now (Guess we were a little slow, better luck next time?).
  • Lie about weapons research (to what end?)
  • Lie about EVERYTHING in hopes of misleading him
  • Explain the countermeasures we will now use to keep our family safe, including but not limited to cutting off all contact with the outside world and hiding away with summons dedicated to guarding us
  • Lie about the countermeasures we will now use to keep our family safe, hopefully achieving the result while also deceiving him about our location should he try to find us.
  • Try to convince him to betray Akatuski and join us. Because that would be hilarious, but also because we can't trust the fate of the world with anybody who thinks the likes of Hidan is a cool guy.
  • Anything else you can imagine
  • Also we have more lore now, fuck you lore-denier.

Regarding evading pursuit:

First, we cannot deal with them if they find us. Before, it was possible that we get a visit from Hidan alone, or from Hidan and one of the other moron Akatsuki (i. e., Sasori or Deidara) who happened to be paired up with him when Hidan personally got the idea to catch up with us. This group we maybe could have handled by a clever enough application of our extant runes and quickly spun social schemes.

Now? No. We'll get a visit from Hidan and one of the competent Akatsuki (Itachi/Kisame/Konan, likely not Konan), and they'd know that we're guilty and need to be killed. Social schemes won't work, anti-Hidan countermeasures won't work. We can't allow them to get within, like, 50 km of us.

Second, Hidan's blood sense is basically irrelevant. According to Orochimaru, the range is only a few miles. If the Akatsuki's search party gets to within a few miles of us, they won't need Hidan's blood sense to locate us: all of {Itachi, Kisame, Konan} have their own vast sensory abilities (Crows patroling the skies, raw sensory abilities, and being a vast chakra entity bolstered by Paper Clones, respectively). Looking at it from another angle: narrowing down our location to a volume of several miles is the hard part of the search problem they're facing, and if they manage it, we've already screwed up. And Hidan's blood sense likely only becomes useful after the hard problem is solved, and its usefulness is marginal.

The actual problem is Hidan's Jashin-boosted luck, which might make solving the aforementioned "hard" problem easy as well. But while his "tactical-scale" blood-tracking complements this strategic-scale ability well, I don't think we have any reason to believe that the two abilities actually interact, right? I. e., that it's easier for Hidan to luck into finding targets whose blood he knows? It might work this way, but if I understand correctly, the blood-tracking is just a standard Kitkat Clan ability. Maybe leveled to S-rank, but likely not even boosted by Jashin.

As such, I don't think we need to have the debate about swapping out our blood. It's missing the point.

Now, the hard problem on our end is: how do we foil Hidan's Jashin-boosted luck?

Well, firstly, it's not actually clear to what extent it's a problem. It might not actually function all that well.

But if it does...

I don't have any immediate ideas besides "outbid Hidan regarding Jashin favoritism". Jashin (or whatever entity) already favoured us over Hidan when we last had our contest. Let's go find those pirate lords and sink their vessels in His name? It might work.
Is there any chance we could just... out-distance them? Naruto's list of hotspots are all locations on the map, in the known world. If Hidan spins in a circle and walks northish and eventually finds himself on the far side of Snow Country, at some point he probably shrugs and figures he missed us. The way to never let Hidan get within 50km of us is to estimate how far he'll track us on a Jashin-given whim and go 100km farther than that.

Or, heck, 200 km farther than that, 500 km farther. Realistically, nothing stops us from going to the other end of the world entirely. We have the supplies, there's nobody we need to come in contact with, and we can still relatively easily make the return trip once we're done.

i think the pangolins would freak out if they learned kei betrayed her village and went missing. they already didn't like it the first time she did it.
edit:
I had hoped that I might-
looks like kei was hoping we would provide a more peaceful solution. like letting those 7path summons civilians into the village and coexisting. and maybe letting their military get involved in policing and the courts.

So slightly crazy idea but what if instead of jumping all around the elemental nations we went and cut a deal with Ryugami to stay in Mist for a while?

A loot pinata not for Akatsuki, but for thee...

1. Would it actually give us any (sufficient) security? We just saw what happens when we relied on Naruto in a similar role. And we now have the rest of Team Uplift and the clan to consider.
2. Kei's whole diatribe about WMD's applies doubly so in that case, where most paths lead to shortcutting her worst case scenario. After all, what's the most natural demand that would be made of us in exchange for (assumed) security while we make WMD's against the Akatsuki? The whole point of the joke quote is that we give someone who is not Akatsuki the effective leverage of being Akatsuki. That seems unwise.
3. This is sentimental, but I finally, finally want to see the Missing-Armageddon project go full bore.

Regardless of my objections, thank you for the out-of-the-box suggestion. Many of our best successes come from those kinds of efforts.

I guess that something along the lines of letting Cannai talk to Itachi, and explaining that Hazou has not, in any shape, way or form, researched the rift, but is also unwilling to let any more clan secret get stolen wouldn't work, right? Abuse the old "Summons never lie" by saying something technically true (Because Oro is the one researching the rift, not us).

EDIT: i mean, what are the odds, in Itachi's mind, that Hazou could lie to Cannai?

Worth doing. This might be able to bump our priority a few points down Itachi's list if we are able to make our self a big enough nuisance to find.

Can we take another village hostage, "I'll steal the moon!"-style?
Based on the possible force dome/sphere defense plans for Leaf, and the subsequent complete isolation + Akatsuki-unbreakable barriers.

Itachi is a shadow clone and his major weakness is his merely high-jounin chakra reserves. Itachi prime, who has most of his chakra, isn't aware of any issues until this shadow clone pops. It also presumably has no Sharingan, cutting off the majority of his op genjutsu. This vastly reduces the amount of stuff Itachi's shadow clone can do to stalk or interfere with Noburi…

@Paperclipped I understand that naruto folded due to past trauma from Itachi prime, but wouldn't the shadow clone's lack of red eyes prevent this trauma from triggering fully?

EJ, with respect to focusing energy where it's important, can we tell that to Noburi "now" instead of the next meeting? The question stems from whether Noburi left immediately after delivering the news, while knowing what kind of news he was delivering - or not. As you can see there was a lot of discussion on how to send secure messages to Noburi, despite that being possibly superfluous.
We really don't want to do that. My understanding is that Noburi is standing right next to Itachi in the Human Path. We don't want him to have to hide anything this momentous right now.

Naruto said he'd be sending them on a goose chase. I don't think Noburi Mari and Yuno can leave until they leave, but after that they can book it to us or go somewhere else and keep in contact.

Ugh this is part of why I was insistent we needed him with us, this is literally the leverage we were talking about if we leave party members behind :/

We could defy naruto, return to leaf, tell itachi we arent doing dimensionalism. ignore any other questions saying we don't have to answer those and walk away once he starts asking those. And mention it's rude to pull hazou away from research without any gifts as compensation for lost time

Mari's Uplift Exfiltration:

Itachi's eyes are on Goketsu right now, and Noburi is a poor liar.
We'll wait a day or two, then send Mari a ciphered message to exfiltrate our team.

Uplift is unlikely to get more than 12 hours of head start. to many eyes are on uplift.
1-2 hours is enough time to skywalk above the clouds and vanish beyond visual range in an ~untrackable direction.
So Mari can just grab Noburi+Yuno and vanish into the night. neat.

As a bonus, we want to maximise our resources and visibly break ties with leaf.
This could be any combination of "take everyone we care about", and "burn bridges on our way out"

"take people we care about" is tricky. the more people we bring, the more firepower(and chakra!) we have. but most of the people we might bring are loyal leaf nin. also, taking half of a group(extended Goketsu, Snowglobe, ect) suggests that we might care about the other half.

"burn bridges" is tricky. any obvious treachery that gets noticed cuts into our 12-hour head start. It would be really nice to steal the Uzumaki sealing vault, murder Ritsuo, ect, but doing so without immediately raising the alarm is probably hard.

Ultimately, I'm in favour of waiting two days, then dumping this in the lap of Mari, renowned infiltration expert.
She can decide who else it's safe to bring, and what(if any) bonus objectives to do on the way out.
