Something to keep in mind

Our foray into genetics, while its one field of study, has applicability in multiple industries.
  • Food/Agriculture though Dino Steaks
  • Entertainment through Doofrassic Park
  • And literal Genetics through diseases/crops, etc.
  • Add in Janus's new options as well.
For now, trying to go for a combo of deep specialization and focus into the Robotics/AI Industry and whatever we can get out of genetics actions seems best. (As genetics options seem to provide us market share in multiple different industries).

We have capacity for high growth in the former, and specialized genetics units so we can diversify into various industries with what we learn from genetics research, at least until we reach a stable (+3) level in quite a few industries so we are diversified.

Maybe we could research biofuel through Genetics? Could be a nice upgrade for our Normbots potentially. I wonder if that research is locked behind silphium.

So, improving Doof's Learning is bound to be... really hard. The best way to improve stats is by quests and we don't get quests Doof can go on often. We've never gotten quests where Learning was the focus, meaning we've been stuck at 38 Learning this entire time. However, there is an option that might let us go on a Learning quest- the Avalon conference.

The Avalon conference is a genetics expo. Specifically it is held by Avalon- a French megacorporation focused on genetics. Lee even mentioned it was likely that some of our scientist minions are probably going to be attending to give speech due to reviving the dinosaurs.

That's what people got for dinosaurs, if we were to actually cure genetic diseases we could certainly slam-dunk an invite. It was originally held in Sept/Oct 2015 and Lee noted that it was a few years' off back in Sept/Oct 2016, so if I had to guess it will be held in Sept/Oct 2019 or 2020.

In that time we should focus on genetics actions. For one, I think we should have Jumba cure genetic diseases March/April 2018 then expand to France the following turn, as France is the market that is noted for genetics. After that, I can't say much, but I imagine that reaching out to Avalon would be a good idea. We certainly would want to continue having Jumba go through genetic diseases. Not only does it give us potential of increasing Doof's Learning- but it also provides a fig leaf should the GalFed ever discover us- they even had Jumba curing genetic diseases.

We have a total bonus of one hundred and thirty on genetics. At their best, Gen-U-Tech and Sycorax can muster a bonus of 90-100. We can totally dominate the field.

The French megacorp held a genetics expo for the most prominent European researchers in the field, discussing techniques such as TALEN and CRISPR-Cas9 that may be used to one day rewrite entire genomes in the hopes of curing hereditary diseases. The event was a success, seeing speeches from prominent leaders in the field like Dr. Jonas Muller. Dr. Anton Sevarius was noted as being in attendance, as was Janus Lee of Lee Industries.
Dr. Doofenshmirtz hadn't seen fit to publish any papers on the topic, though several researchers working under him had received grants for their work, even gaining international acclaim amongst the genetics community at large. He would be surprised if some of the researchers didn't have speeches planned for the Avalon conference in a few years.
[ ] Expand into Foreign Markets

DEI's growth over the years has been steady and consistent. We can now take the logical steps, acquire the proper permits, and grease the right palms to expand into foreign markets. This can be a risk, but certainly one worth considering.

Sycorax and Gen-U-Tech have already made massive strides in manipulating the human genome, but there's always room for further improvement. Progressing down this path would represent a significant undertaking, one that would surely gain DEI some fame.

Mass Media / Performance Arts: Established (Disney, Danville Performing Arts Center) [+2]
We should probably move into this sector before anyone else has a chance to. We're not strong here, but there aren't many who are stronger, so we could quickly gain ground on the opposition.

Here's a list of the Stewardship/Learning actions we have that should fall under the industries we have an actual chance in. It isn't really 100% accurate and there were a few actions I didn't bother to include because I thought they didn't exactly fit. For instance, I couldn't place zero-point or Bakaemono supply chain. Additionally I did not include collabs, though some of them would be rather revolutionary. For instance, esoteric transportation would be a discontinuous innovation, so we should expect pushback from the current factions dominating it.

Slight complication here, we'd want to bring either Jumba or Janus Lee, because they're our genetics specialists and it'd be weird not to bring at least one of our genetics specialists to a genetics expo. However, Janus Lee is a council member and thus has a good chance of not having the time, and Jumba is a walking masquerade violation, especially in a big crowd of people who would have the best odds of being able to tell the difference between a mutated super and an extraterrestrial.

Not that I'm saying we shouldn't bring Jumba to the Avalon conference, that sounds great. But we should be aware that it's probably not going to go entirely smoothly.

his pet project, body modification, which he ran human trials on his own body... there is, after all, no law that prohibits a scientist to experiment on their own bodies! :V

Joke aside, if he does go on the expo, its easy to spin a tale up.... as for Janus, i would think he would get a personal action to go to the Gala.... maybe a potion of haste would let hom go on it as well.

And Doof, of course, the silent backer, gone for looking for new projects to... help out.

So our main source of income is being a parts manufacturer? Interesting. I assumed it would be genetics, what with the disonaurs and stuff.
I'm ecstatic about it, honestly. Pretty much any investment anyone else does is going to give us a tiny bit of kickback and it all adds up. If you build an airplane engine, if you build a computer, whatever thing you want either requires some component of ours or increases the demand by secondary effect. It doesn't matter if the check gets signed to our factories or to our (possibly literal) patent troll.

Hell, if we ever get our teeth kicked in it would probably have a similar effect to, say, real world China collapsing... though we are utterly dependent on the global market remaining healthy. If things start to crumble our decline will probably be even sharper than the rest of the world.

We received the best damn hand of cards in this great game of strip poker capitalism.

"de-evolution-ator"
Possible Effect #1: Massively reduces DC on a dinosaur genetics roll because it hit a flock of pigeons that de-evolved into dinosaurs which your scientists can sequence.
Possible Effect #3: Dinosaurs rampage! increases DC of all dino based actions & gives negative PR.
Possible Effect #2: One random unlucky employee gets all martial rolls doubled next turn, and all other rolls halved. What since they are now a cave man / toon / alien.
Possible Effect #4: OWCA gains a permanent martial bonus due to the newly recruited A-GENT-T (rex)!

On the upside, in case of a major general economic turndown... "being a parts manufacturer" means you have a lot of light and heavy industrial equipment of various kinds, which can be repurposed to make things for your own internal economy if the external trade situation looks bad.

By contrast, if you make your money through restaurants and people can't afford to eat out, you have a problem.

Wait a minute... was the main source of DEI's income determined by an omake that got declared canon?
Where did it get declared canon? It's in Sidestories, not Threadmarks. Also, I believe that Doof never intended to create a company– people he hired for other things noticed that the doohickeys he used for his Inators were generally super useful, and started selling those. And because everyone in Danville is nice, I guess he got ownership of the company?

Doof runs a seminar where he zaps people with a motivate-inator that makes them want go buy his merchandise.

I'd guess that our Doof has a lot of random technological patents that give him royalties.

I'd also guess that some of Doof's close to mundane inators stick around and are used to make money legally. E.g perhaps Doof owns a bunch of random small businesses that have a massive competitive advantage due to using an inator (in legal ways) but can't scale or franchise due to the dependency on the inator.

E.g perhaps there is a single carwash place that uses a carwash-inator to automagically clean cars perfectly and Doof gets a cut of the profits. Perhaps there is a small pizza parlour, a lawn mowing service, a circus sideshow attraction, an ice rink, a flower arranger, etc.

Doof can't remake an inator he has already made in this quest. Phineas and Ferb Hawaiian Vacation

The only things that are canon are threadmarks in the Threadmark categories. The dividing line between Sidestories and Apocrypha is that the latter are typically more whimsical.

DEI primarily being a Widget company comes from world building on the DVV discord server. argidoll theorized about it back in late 2020.

Anyways, my theory on what DEI made before quest start is that it's actually a parts and innovation company. The R&D teams dig through the remains of Doof's creations and run around trying to salvage ideas and designs for various odds and ends. A glass manufacturing method Doof used to make a hypercube light bulb, a weirdly reliable screwdriver design, glitter, etc. Most of the profit doesn't come from selling products to the public, it comes from selling parts and processing materials for industrial purposes, across a nonsensically wide variety of industries. So if you ask most people what DEI makes, they'll shrug, because they only really know it from Doof's social media presence. You ask employees, they'll answer what they're making, which varies wildly depending on which manufacturing plant they work at, or even which part of the factory they clock in from. But really, DEI is the world's only widget company, because it makes such a nonsensical variety categorizing it all is a lost cause.

Rule of thumb for this quest is this:
- Anything on the main Threadmark is canon
- Sidestories are baseline non canon, they might actually have some canonicity but should be considered non canon unless stated otherwise
- Apocrypha are 100% non canon

So at practical effects both Sidestories and Apocrypha are non canon

This is correct. Sidestories might become canon, might once have been canon before we went down another path, or are just generally neat. Apocrypha are totally, 100% noncanon.

Anything fully, uncategorically canon is in threadmarks.

There's a rule that says no resurrections.
Which would probably result in a succession of Perry-like creatures or objects being summoned from the multiverse in ever greater numbers... and stretching 'Perry-like' like a stale joke. The device just keeps pulling but can't, by definition, succeed so it has to keep going until the instant it detonates into a Perry-shaped mushroom cloud.
