Lore Roadmap
Okay. We've got a lot to do.
The state of lore compendium in this quest has been quite frankly abysmal. We literally haven't updated our Lore posted since we began almost two years ago. Thanks in particular to
@Argidoll for pointing that out. If there is one concern we have seen repeatedly raised over and over again, it is that you feel like we are asking you to answer questions you don't know how to read. That you don't know what we want you to do. We have a few ideas on how we'd like to address that. But we, in turn, feel sometimes that you guys are not… digging into our updates in the way that we'd hope. Not in the sense that you're inattentive! And this is a very broad brush we're painting with. A lot of you have proven invested, attentive, and clever. You solved an enigma code after all! And I still remember the day someone managed to, almost perfectly, predict Xanatos' exact motivations during the Moolah and Magic Quest. But with hundreds of threadmarks over nearly two years, it's a lot to get through, a lot to remember, and hard to put things together. Not only that, we've been told we have a tendency to write in a way that is very… readable. As in, it's very easy to just glide over the text of the interlude, glean the surface level, and not pick up on some of the subtext. So. Here's what we're going to do.
The old Lore page is being archived into a mini-spoiler, with what remains of it being cleaned up and turned into a 'new readers start here', type thing. The rest of the Lore page is going to be broken up into a number of subsections, each of which consists of a broad 'plotline' that is developing over the course of Doofquest. Things like San Fransokyo, Magical New York, Aliens, Other Dimensions and so on. We're going to build out a broad list of
facts you know about each area, and eventually link to a document that contains in-depth descriptions of each major area on the map. Like Mirage's Report on the Cape Scene or Russ' Report on Doomtown, but up to date. Maybe we'll have you perform actions to get those, maybe not. We're still thinking.
We also want to include lists of all interludes relevant to those lore categories. However. We want to give you all an impetus to go back through some of the earlier interludes and think about them.
And also we're lazy.
So, we're putting out a bounty. For every interlude that you bring to our attention (with a link) that fits into one or more of these categories, we're granting 25XP. Quests count for 25XP no matter how many interludes there are in them, we only want a link to the first one. If two people drop it, it's whoever posted in thread first. Once we have them, we'll gather them all up, and link them in one place.
Oh, and one more thing.
1000XP to the first person who can tell me why "The timing! It's gotta be perfect!" Is funny.
'Your ongoing obsession with having someone get that joke' doesn't count.
