So I decided to take a look at our actions to see if there's anything we can do to hopefully improve our odds of success for the Coven action.

[ ] Form a Coven

DC 120

At some point, it might be a good idea to create some sort of organized structure to your various spellslingers. As is, you're doing things pretty bespoke. Throw together a coven, or a circle, or a bogwarts, or whatever you call an organized group of mages.

Reward: Second Occult action unlocked, Court Wizard council position unlocked
July/August: first turn the action appears, relevant actions done are Study Alchemy, hire Kitsune, and You Made Me Love Xanadu quest.

Rewards of quest:
Ancient Mongolian documents have been recovered! You might want to let someone take a look at these!
Ancient Mongolian relics recovered! Temujin feels more at home now that he's recovered some treasure from his homeland.
These former two seem like they might be the source of Jumba's PA to study mythological creatures, but they don't seem to have had any real mystical knowledge.
Jī Talisman of the Shengxiao Set recovered! This talisman grants its wielder flight and telekinesis!
Useful, but then due to the talisman being a one-user-at-a-time thing, it might not have helped for magical knowledge.
Study Alchemy results: now we can create potions via Doof's Personal Actions.
Hire Kitsune results: we now have a goblin fox working for us.

September/October: No change at beginning of turn, relevant actions done are Magic and Moolah quest and setting up Mystic Defenses. Janna also summoned Tom as a result of a random roll

Quest Rewards: lots of stuff, but the important things are an astral projection talisman and that devil witch book. The Scrolls are useful, but Magica did say they weren't magical.
Action Rewards: Very good magical defenses set up around the city, and we now have Tom working for us on Star-related actions.

I'd say that of the rewards, Janna's new evil book is likeliest to be responsible.for the DC reduction we see next turn due to it containing reusable magical knowledge. Heavy duty evil knowledge, granted, but still knowledge.

November/December: 5 point reduction in DC, relevant actions done are Moving the Castle, Summoning Celena the Shy, have Kitsune train Janna, and finding Marco.

Action rewards: Janna got an increase in Martial and Kistune sated her Goblin Fox trait, the castle will be on our territory so we'll be able to talk with Malifishmirtz and have him as a hero, and we'll get more information from Celena. Judging from these actions, I'd say Moving the Castle is the likeliest one to give us a DC reduction. Janna getting an increase in Martial, while useful, doesn't seem that useful on forming a coven, while Celena only gives us information on upcoming events. We might have managed to stabilize her haunting though, so we may be able to recruit her in the future.

So, assuming all this is correct, does anyone have any suggestions on how we can further lower the DC for forming a coven? Since a coven is typically a group of witches, hiring more dedicated spellcasters might be good, but I'm excited to see what sort of bonus Castle Doofhawk will give us.

That seems very unlikely. That book is Janna's book, I don't even think Doof knows that Janna stole the book.

Searching for Magical Individuals could lower the DC, but it still is probably going to be very difficult to succeed at.

Edit: Reaching out to New York's Magical Community and Infiltrating New York might lower the DC, as New York is the center of America's magical community.

We had a reduction for the castle after asking Xanay for some advice, so I'd imagine that asking Celena about how the Magic High Commission was structured might help.

Alright, these all seem helpful. Unfortunately, the only one that doesn't use up a National Action in critically low supply is the infiltration one. We'll just have to try and figure out what to do next turn.

Eh...I'm not so sure on that. For starters, we don't even know the MHC even existed IC, from what I saw of them on the show they seemed to be doing their own things for the most part and only cane together for the really big stuff, and finally, except for the Queens of Mewni and the goat guy, the MHC members were all immortal. I'm not sure their advice would be helpful for setting up a coven of mortal mages working for another mortal.

#33,992 Sewage Frogs
Sewage Frogs

Noel wasn't a stranger to uncomfortable investigations. Being involved with tracking magical creatures took you to all sorts of settings, after all. There was the time they trekked across Alberta in response to a sighting of Sasquatch. Newfoundland was a nice vacation after they dealt with the Akhlut making meals out of vulnerable campers. Then there was his solo five-day trip to the woods in British Columbia that had resulted him restrained to bedrest for a month with nothing to do.

(Honestly, he still owed Cazador for getting them out alive, even if their impromptu team up had been the miracle that they both needed to do so)

And of course, there was the time he and Soleil had to spend an entire week tiptoeing around that weird superhero team made up entirely of grade schoolers. The experience almost made him want to see if those conspiracy theories about Hoover Dam hiding an infinite void were true so he could just yell into the abyss.

So, all in all, he wasn't really sure where trekking through the Toronto sewage system in search of a group of villainous thieves fell on that list. On the one hand, it was a more benign locale than usual, considering that for once he didn't have to watch out for a horrifying creature around every corner, and Soleil was here, so it wasn't like he was alone. On the other hand, the smell was so bad the white haired boy was resorting to sucking on ginger, despite the choking risk, with the side benefit of having to take several showers to avoid stinking up the building when they were done. Plus, after hours of walking through the tunnels, progressively forced to go through smaller and smaller ones, he was feeling a touch claustrophobic.

"Why did the thieves have to hide in the sewers of all places?" he managed to get out as they rounded yet another turn, fighting the tightness in his stomach. His partner shrugged in response, still focusing on the flame in her hand lighting their way towards an upcoming split. He opened his mouth to grouse further when the sound of something else sloshing their way through water reached his ears.

Quickly, they threw themselves back the way they came, the flame extinguished with a hiss as Noel spit his candy onto the ground, the adrenaline temporarily suppressing his nausea. The splashing came closer, causing the two to prepare for an ambush, before it stopped and started moving away from them.

They were still for a moment, before slowly poking their heads around the corner to find two men clad in scuba suits walking down one of the paths away from them. He couldn't help but say, "I knew they were wearing scuba outfits, but I didn't think they'd heft those oxygen tanks around all the time."

"Well, I think we found the people we were looking for." Soleil commented, the flame lighting back up at a lower intensity. Falling into the motions of long practice, they continued after the men as their targets waded through the sewage, eventually coming to a wide-open room.

This room was altered from the rest of the sewage system, painted a weird shade of green that even Noel's remarkably low standards found offensive. A massive pool of water in the middle was the centerpiece of the base, hiding something big beneath the surface. More scuba men dotted around the room, some just chattering next to some shellfish shaped cannons, while others moved around bags of random valuables and hoses of all things. The two crept over to hide behind a bush that the criminals apparently managed to move down here, just in time for a guy in a slightly more stylized suit to make his entrance.

"Alright, my fair friends! Make sure everything is arranged properly. Soon our plans will finally come to fruition!"

"Hey, what are you two doing here?"

The question, coming from behind, caused the two to whirl around, a henchman looking at them in confusion. Soleil hits him into the wall with a burst of flame, but it's a half second too late.

"Oh? What do we have here? Landlubbers intruding in my superior base?"

The hustle of activity all around them came to a halt, as all the henchman circled around them as more flooded out of the tunnels, boxing them next to the bush with their apparent leader at their helm.

"Well no matter! You can't stop my plans that are unstoppable! I will flood all of this city, and then, as we are entitled to as superior amphibians, we'll take whatever we want from you sniveling landies! Get them!"

At his command, the shell cannons, turned in their direction while he was talking, started firing high velocity clams at them. Quickly, Noel crouched, forming a dome of ice over their heads to block the unconventional ammunition, bouncing it off like heavy rain hitting a sidewalk. Cracks start forming at the area of impact, but it will hold out long enough.

Already walking through the next steps, he simply asked, "Ready?"

Their little dome started becoming warmer as fire swirled around her hands. "Whenever you are."

At her affirmation, he shattered his dome, sending ice flying in all directions and knocking back the first waves of goons charging at them with a thud. The redhead launched a wave of fire over their heads, arcing just right to take out their artillery, the gunners futilely scrambling to put out the flames.

Noel pivoted on one heel, letting one enthusiastic mook run past him into a spinning bar of ice that bats him into the crowd as a barrage of ice balls fire at the charging line, scattering them. A wall of sharp spikes materializes in front of him, daring them to come in close. At his back, the familiar smell of something burning wafts in his direction as pillars of fire erupt amongst the opposition, raining more flames amongst the crowd. Still others are taken out with pinpoint strikes, leaving piles of groaning bodies on the ground.

The action pauses as the scuba weirdos take in their new situation, trying to find a way to get closer that doesn't subject them to the elements opposing them. Right now, he feels confident in thinking they could probably hold out against the horde provided no one manages to get a lucky shot in.

That lucky shot comes in a literal wave, the air driven out of Noel's lungs as he barely manages to keep his constructs intact. It's worse for Soleil, who catches the brunt of the stream – most of the fire is extinguished as she's knocked away, immediately shoving herself off the people she was blasted into. Unfortunately, it also provides an opening for the minions to start swarming them.

"Hah hah, I knew you couldn't stand up to the superiority of Dehydro, the one who is superior to you!" He risks a quick glance to his left to see a green and black mech, water dripping from the hose that just sprayed them down. A glass screen is retracting to reveal the apparent leader from earlier, mocking them.

Tuning out his ramblings, the white-haired boy takes stock of his situation. Soleil's getting back up, but the approaching horde is going to reach them before she can push them back again, and he can't cover for her without letting his side through. Plus, there's whatever else the mech can do to disrupt them, and neither of them can effectively hit it hard enough right now. It's probably not enough to actually beat the two of them, but this became so much more annoying.

He's resigned for this to become a slog when something smashes into the mech, knocking it over, the goons looking in shock as a woman in a blue, fur trimmed miniskirt and a green cape landed where the mech used to stand before it got blasted into the wall.

This, he recognizes from both old pictures and the comic books Ember tries (and fails) to hide that she likes, is the daughter of Koliak: Nelvana of the Northern Lights.

Dehydro, amazingly still confident somehow, has the bright idea to taunt the woman who just punched a giant robot across a room.

"And who is this inferior being that attacked me Dehydro, a superior amphibian!"

The woman ignores him, choosing instead to call, "With Koliak's power, you will no longer terrorize these people!" Immediately after, Dehydro's mech starts falling apart while he desperately pounds at it in some delusion of making it stop.

A fiery snake scattering the gobsmacked goons reminds Noel that there's still some cannon fodder left to clean up. The newcomer flashes in and out, the goons failing to even make an impression as she flies straight into their midst, bowling them over. Soleil's recovered enough to get back into the fight with gusto, fireballs catching the remaining minions in the back as they run around like headless chickens. Meanwhile, he decides to pick off the stragglers. With the snap of his fingers the nearby tunnels are sealed, preventing them from fleeing deeper into the sewers. Their exits blocked, they turn towards him just in time to see the wicked smirk that lights up his face.

All in all, it is significantly shorter than the time it took for them to scour the sewers, which is fine with him.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The sun is setting when they're done dragging the villains into custody, a mirror to the sunrise that he and Soleil entered the sewers in. Dehydro had apparently come up here after escaping his previous incarceration somewhere in the states. Or at least, that's what Noel thought he heard over the guy's screaming ramble.

When the police have dragged him into a car and taken the stolen items to be categorized and returned to their proper owners, the only other person left is Nelvana. "Thank you," is what he chooses to go with, not really knowing what else to say.

Thankfully, she just smiles. "It was no problem. I just wish I could have done something sooner." The smile shifts to a frown. "Unfortunately, these days, there are been more unrest amongst the spirits, taking up my time."

Soleil frantically waves her arms in denial. "No, no we get it. We've noticed it too." Noel can see Nelvana look at them a bit harder, looking for… something.

"I see, so you are also aware…" She trails off, clearly in thought, before looking up, hearing something they could not. "My apologies, but I need to be somewhere else." She turns to leave, before pausing. "Koliak has been speaking with me lately, trying to give me a warning, but it is muddled; I cannot hear his efforts clearly. I must know – in the future, am I able to call upon your aid?"

The two of them look at each other, both slightly stunned. But it's a simple request, and something that they would probably be involved in anyway, so there's no harm in answering, "Of course."

"Thank you." Then she is off, turning invisible and presumably flying off, leaving the two of them alone, unnerved by her final statements.

"What could be happening that would require her to ask us for help?" Noel can't help but ask. "Do you think it's related to whatever Ember felt on Halloween?" All his friend does is let out a sharp breath.

"It's possible, but for now, we can't really do anything, can we?" she says, clearly not happy about it. Noel began to reach for her shoulder to try and comfort her, before hesitating and dropping his hand with a sigh.

"Let's go home."

A/N: looks at word count. Didn't expect to write this much.

So this is a sequelish type thing to my last omake. If people have anything to say about this, please do so.

Minor Notes:

-The Cazador incident is currently about a year and a half before the events of this omake, so around Julyish 2015 in my current head canon. I might flesh it out a bit more if I get the time after the Marco interlude so I can get a bit of a better handle on his character and to see if it isn't canonically a problem. I have some ideas for it though.

-You can probably guess the "team of grade schoolers" reference, even if it probably isn't actually them since, well, you know. It's a bit timeline dependent

-In possibly related news, I have watched about 300% more Teamo Supremo than I would have liked trying to get Dehydro's character.

-Nelvana isn't an OC, she's a Canadian Comic book character during World War II, a time in which American Comics couldn't be imported to Canada. The very basics about her is that she's the daughter of the Inuit god Koliak and a mortal woman, making her a Demigod. She has a host of powers including invisibility, flight, speed, and immortality, among other things. In-universe she's been mainly doing stuff around Canada, involving magic spirits and little green men from the ether world Etheria that want to invade Earth.

-(Yes, that last one was an actual thing in the comics)

-Koliak being unable to completely reach her is admittedly me taking a bit of a reach since I can't actually find many of her comics to read (since, y'know, World War II era), but basically it's like Feldrake knowing about paradox's and stuff like that. I highly doubt he's the only one who can recognize them. As for why he's not coming in person, it's because the other gods didn't exactly like the fact that he married a mortal, and so they cursed him to only be visible as the Aurora Borealis.

-Forgot this, but Ember feeling something on Halloween is taken from the line Warding the Henhouse when Kitsune says that practionors and creatures of the dark arts would feel more potent than usual.

This leads me to only one possible conclusion. If Toffee is ever to be defeated, it will be by Tobe. I am not accepting criticism at this time.

...I suddenly have an idea.
Welp, we heard vanessa, Guess we're giving DEI to Janna if we somehow croak.

Vanessa was like that in the show, remember? It's why Doof quit. He had the choice of keeping up his evil and losing his daughter, who was interning at OWCA, or quitting and still getting to see her.

...I know there are significantly better options for combat, but if I could transform into a T-Rex on command, I'd have extreme difficulty not using that as my opening move every time.

I'd start into obscure megafauna with the occasional Tyrannosaur of some stripe, but yes, "turn into some ancient horror" is a classic for a reason.

A Fun Guy: +10 (Sam likes the cut of your jib. The silly, silly cut of your silly, silly jib.)

Man, imagine being Jetstream Sam, getting shunted out of the Metal Gear universe, and ending up in Disney's Shadowrun in front of fucking Doofenschmirtz.

Like goddamn.
