Are we going to follow through with the inn and tavern idea? Retired Mari has all the necessary skills, it would be source of income intel and light labor employment for the incoming civilians, and Orochimaru's compound must have all the equipment for fermentation and distillation.

How many tarven/inn can Leaf supports anyway?

That was brilliant. Have a threadmark and 3 XP.

With the distraction gone, Orochimaru prepared himself for another lecture about how seals were the solution to all of mankind's problem when the door that swung open once more, revealing an armed Uchiha guard.
He instantly zeroed in on Harold. "Goketsu! How many times do we have to tell you that you are not welcome in the Uchiha compound?"
Needs paragraph break.

Also, for a clan that is famous for their fire jutsu your compound is absurdly flammable, isn't it?"
Missing leading quote.

"Can you believe it? That idiot actually thinks immortality is real," Orochimaru said.
Kakuzu just laughed.

"I realize this is a lot to take in at once so I will give you some space to think about it. Just know that you are always welcome here." And with that Pain substituted himself with a bench further down the street.
And then stood there for a few moments before reluctantly turning back to the group.

@eaglejarl: Since you never specified that Kagome had to become in a canon MfD story, I'd like to claim the 10 XP now.
I will pay you actual American dollars if you can actually make that happen through the normal process of the quest. That would be amazing, and I would love to write it.
Nice try. :p

I'm not even going to touch the "use a Mist-nin infiltration specialist as an ally to influence Leaf politics" aspects of the plan
Look, if Hiashi is going to claim that we're evil foreign plants out to subvert Leaf and re-carve it into our own disturbing image, and that Ami is here to assist us under a bogus paper-thin excuse, we may as well act the part.

Goal for the month: meet and exceed Hiashi's worst expectations!

How common are printing presses again? It is hard to have a widely sold book series without them. They are also very easy to reverse engineer. If you have an example of a printed work it isn't hard to notice that the lettering is uniform and figure out is was made in the same ways as stamps and woodcut printing.

Nara having a monopoly on printing doesn't make much sense.

Paging @faflec : How long do Force Wall seals last?
- Force Wall Seal

Put two seals on flat, parallel surfaces. They generate a 4 m x 4 m invisible wall of invulnerable force between them. The wall can easily be jumped over or gone around if you know it's there, but it's ridiculously thin; running into it tends to cut you in half. It lasts for 12 hours or until the seals are damaged or moved. If you have the tags prepared it takes about a minute to get them set up and activated. Attempting to create a wall when there is anything solid in the way causes the seals to fail and be ruined.

I assumed they assumed it must be some secret woodblock printing technique.

Do we need to learn the summoning jutsu from someone else who's trained before we sign and use the scroll?
Yes. Part of what the training covers is how to pass between the Paths without having your mind exploded. Given that the first thing that happens after signing the contract is that a critter appears and reverse-summons you, it's useful to have that knowledge.

Are the Toads the only clan the Pangolins have an embassy with? If not, what are the other ones?
As of chapter 265, the Pangolins have an embassy or other point of communication with the Toads, the Condors, and the Otters.

[QMs:
Did we talk to Keiko about selling more seals to the Pangolins?
Yes. She was evasive and uncomfortable with the topic but she said she'd see about bringing it up with them.

One user can't stack it because it's concentration-based. HDK about groups.

Can we use Orochimaru's pardon and his brotherly relationship with Jiraiya as cause to posthumously induct him into the Goketsu clan? Do we think that would piss Tsunade off?
Clan adoption requires consent. Also, most things piss Tsunade off.

Would a will from a clanless ninja giving something strategically valuable to someone be legally respected in Leaf? (For example, if Gai had owned the Turtle Summoning Scroll, and left it for Lee.)
Clan and clanless ninja are equal in the eyes of the law. (i.e., de iure, not de facto) Due to the sheer numbers, the state simply can't afford to provoke them en masse by legalising discrimination. Every village leader is aware that if discontent exceeds a certain critical mass, the clanless will just do a mass Shikigami, and the village can't afford to send half its village to hunt down the other half.

Hmm. I was thinking. Leaf's perception of Goketsu strength is certainly lower than our own, due to a number of reasons.

Maybe it would be worth it (and also contribute to the What The Hell Is Up With Hazō thing that Shikaku surely would've been trying to keep track of that he probably passed on to Shikamaru) to take a single chakra beast clearing mission, and use it to test a singular bigass explosion that all of Leaf will notice from miles away and will leave a disquieting crater.

"Oops." -Hazō
I fully, unironically want to do this. Or anything else that lets us test a WMD/WMD prototype without getting us or anyone else killed. Walter had a point in that we don't really have all this power we think we have, until we actually test out the WMDs and make sure they work.

Wait, what about the Leopards (allies of convenience/future vassals) or Hyenas (conquered)?
Yes. She was evasive and uncomfortable with the topic but she said she'd see about bringing it up with them.
...was this before xor after her decision to no longer sell seals to the Pangolins?

Having a demonstrable WMD seems far more trouble than it's worth, except for desperate last measures.

Hmm. If by "the Five" Pain indeed referred to the five Paths between the Human Realm and the Summon Realm, is it possible that we could learn something about them by "looking around" while "passing" between? Perhaps we'll need to disregard the summoning training a little to do so, have our mind exploded just a little? I vote we contact Hidan for D-class personnel.

Interesting idea. We should ask Mari if she thinks she could improve on Shikigami's plan.

This sounds like a great way to go on some Fantastic Adventures on the other paths. I am curious if there are other Humans somewhere.

Imagine, you are a Leaf Ninja. Your village is undoubtedly the strongest, keeping evil Mist in check until the next time you have to put them down.

Imagine, Jiraiya of the Sannin starts a clan with "former" Mist Ninja that have somehow gained Jiraiya's trust. Jiraiya must have been thinking with the wrong head when he engaged Mari the Heartbreaker.

In fact, the "former" Mist Ninja that Jiraiya made a new clan with only have strength in that same Heartbreaker. Two middling sealmasters, and the younger three members are all the dredges of their "former" clans. Weak.

Imagine, Jiraiya has died. "Goketsu", Mist in all but name, remain in Leaf. Now they send their "former" Mist Jonin to try to take the Hat‽ This blatant level of disregard for Leaf's strength, coupled with what is very clearly a bluff of strength on their part, only demonstrates an incompetence on Mist's part. And by moving like this, they have finally allowed loyal Leaf Ninja to remove them!

You know, I accepted that our primary mistake in all this was not giving Keiko enough emotional support and not communicating our intentions clearly.

But then, I realized we did try, right after returning to Leaf, when we had Hazou do exactly this, as well as convince her to support him in convincing Jiraiya drop the contract. The result was that we got hit by a compel on Foot in Mouth, and the whole thing backfired due to Hazou saying the wrong thing at the wrong time. No further attempts were made.

I'm not trying to complain about those decisions, and compels have since been removed anyway. But this, to me, is yet another argument that this particular Trouble of Hazou's simply doesn't make for a fun questing experience.

I'm not even going to touch the "use a Mist-nin infiltration specialist as an ally to influence Leaf politics" aspects of the plan, but I'm calling this now : Keiko will think that this is insane, would never work, and imply that we're a braindead vegetable masquerading as a shinobi.
Thats a very strong opinion. Would you mind going into detail on the why? Its not so helpful for @Noumero to make his action plan better if all he gets is "This section is super dumb and will never work."

Speaking frankly, if this was my plan I would just read this comment and then throw it out, since it doesn't give me anything tangible to work with.

Funny how they ignored the "missing-nin" and "traitors to Mist" parts. I guess it's a step-up.

That seems a little hard on Keiko, don't you think? Isn't it enough that Mari laid a guilt trip on her, do you really need to kill poor Keiko as well?

Actually, at this point I'm inclined to vote for a plan that kills Keiko off.

Can we create low quality sealing paper to induce a sealing failure on an insufficiently observant Sealmaster?

Why would we want to leave only observant Sealmasters alive?

"As doctor or patient?"

"Yes.

The deseas is spreading :)
