That would require long term interaction with these people to use. We will not have that. They will go home, lick their wounds, and remember us for the villains we portrayed ourselves to be.
Thats a little strongly worded.

We were a little dickish, and we played the last event a bit unfairly, towards our advantage.

Eh. Ninja.

The smart ones will see the lesson to be learned here. The lucky ones will have it explained to them. The observant and savvy ones like Ryugamine will see that Mist fucked us at all turns and we did what we had to do.

We werent really fighting too hard for the hearts and minds of those not in the above groups. Its not as bad as you make it out to be.

I'm not quite that optimistic. I think that would have been the case if we had said nothing at all, but not as it is.

Seriously don't want to regret donating word-halves. We really have no idea what they will do. As good as our guess is, it could be seeding is solely determined by # of obtained word-halves regardless of all other points (Except tie-breaker) etc.

It occurs to me that the monkey clan contract is likely within Leaf without a summoner. If the Sarutobi haven't passed it along yet, Jiraiya might prevail upon them to try the Reverse Summoner trick.
I'm still skeptical that Leaf ever had the Monkey scroll, if that clan even exists. We have zero indication that the scroll exists beyond the fact that it exists in canon, and given the way canon throws summon scrolls around like candy we really can't trust that.

I'm up for asking if Leaf has any other summoners, just on general principle, but we shouldn't get ahead of ourselves.

In order to give the audience time to arrive, the date and time of the tournament will be announced forty-eight hours in advance.

"There is a second part to this event: operational security. All of you have secret techniques, secret tactics, or military and state secrets of your village. Perhaps the most important ability for a ninja is the ability to not reveal that which must be kept hidden. In a moment, proctors will begin taking you aside in order to give you a secret word. No one aside from you will know that word. If any proctor learns the secret word of a contestant, that contestant immediately fails the first event. Proctors are Mist ANBU and will be wearing green armbands at all times so they can be identified."
You will be periodically asked to demonstrate that you still have access to your half by proctors, and if you fail to produce it, you will automatically be considered to have failed the first event.
[...]
"This is a modified storage seal," she said, "made to only store and unstore once before ceasing its function. It will be unstored at the final verification of your success in the first task."
"Got interrupted," Hazou said tersely. "Registration is straightforward, you write your own word and tear it in half for later verification. Proctors can ask you to prove you still have it, if you don't you fail the first event.

@faflec: "f any proctor learns the secret word of a contestant, that contestant immediately fails the first event."
"f you fail to produce it, you will automatically be considered to have failed the first event."

Okay, so even if the proctors deliberately don't check the teams even once, all we need to do to get them disqualified from event 1 and lose points is reading all their words to a proctor.

Well, we were going to have to use force to pressgang the old guard into Ninja UN anyway right?

These guys-- if they dont like us-- might just be obstacles to that, really. Y'know it would have been better... if....

....

...we...

We have to figure out the word from the word-half we have and then tell the proctor that Contestant #32's word is *****, but yes.

Please vote for the actual plan to prevent the Evil One from applying his imagination in all its horrifying glory.

Try to get ASAP, use hand signal language if necessary
Suggestion: Go to the Summoning Realm.
To Team Kurenai:This is not charity. We pay our debts, and you saved us in Event 4.
And ISC too. They gave us their intel in that Event, and helped us in this Event as well.

We should be saying this to them both.
Should this also be in crimson? I know you say "Jiraiya helps us word everything correctly." which implies it, but just wanna be sure.
We should thank the Oyabun for his assistance so far.
  • This is a relationship we want to continue.
I'm not sure what specifically it should be...but we should add "Consider getting him another present ala the Pangolin carving." to this. Again, not sure what we'd get specifically.
Suggest everyone spend some time with families if they wish to.
  • Don't press if they do not wish to.
I'm going to ask that Hazou acts really sensitive about this. Keiko already has the Ami blowup hanging over her head; and based on discussion I don't think Noburi'd be too happy about meeting his family. That he betrayed by leaving Mist. And again by joining Leaf.
  • Start to assemble Kagome's birthday gift
    • A book of all the things he's taught us.
    • Suggest to Jiraiya: Maybe turn some of the basement space into a fancy sealing lab too?
Suggestions to add: Mist cuisine + cookbooks, Mist-exclusive wood for carving. There's no reason why we can't have more stuff to consider.
  • Apologize to Nakano for the rough treatment
    • Will get him a medic in Leaf
    • Invite him to next board game night
We already agreed to get him a medic in Chapter 202.

Possibly crazy idea, but what if we give him some of our word-halves; if we're already doing this what's our ability to elevate him to tournament-level? Do we know his score?
  • Team Uplift has a short conversation with Team Downfall
    • Sorry, underestimate us at your own peril.
    • No hard feelings?
    • Try to part amicably.
      • Noburi keeps wisecracks to a minimum.
Some paranoid part of me is screaming that this is going to backfire horribly. But I can't tell why. I am stating this for the record in the hopes that someone MadEyes this part.

...maybe make sure this is done in barracks or something?

Everything in crimson requires Jiraiya's approval in some form.
  • He can make suggestions and criticism of his own.
  • Try to get ASAP, use hand signal language if necessary
Optionally: do it in the Summon Realm.

Are we not talking about the Naruto reverse-summon plan? Either in the Summon Realm (explain to Keiko in private, send her) or somewhere else private. It may be very time-sensitive, should be done ASAP.
Suggest to Jiraiya that we redistribute word-halves equally among ISC and Team Kurenai.
  • Give ~1/4 of our stash to each, in case they have some of their own stashed away (also accounts for ISC having their own + some extra).
Perhaps ask for Shikamaru's input? Generally speaking, in-universe characters probably have a better idea regarding distribution: how much Shikamaru thinks they're worth, how much points Team Kurenai needs to proceed, how many word-halves we actually have, etc. We have only some estimates, they have accurate or semi-accurate knowledge. Write about our intent: ensure that Team Kurenai makes it into the tournament, but neither us nor ISC are endangered if the word-halves cost a lot of points.

Edit: Maybe also add about trying to help Nakano, if IC estimates are sufficiently optimistic.
Subtly underscore: It would be beneficial to both of us in this relationship if we were ninja of great repute.
I don't think we could pull off "subtle" in a conversation with the Oyabun. It'll probably just look clumsy; reword.

Also, I advice adding a standing order that we don't get separated. Mist is now full of chuunin-candidates who are pissed off at us and prowl the streets, not to mention pissed-off members of Mist clans. We should be careful.

Or just tell Jiraiya that we've got stuff to ask him that we don't want overheard, and let him take us to a secure place where we won't be listened in on. He'll know better than us where the most convenient secure place is.

[X] Loose Ends

Seconding @faflec's suggestion that cooking stuff could be a great line of inquiry for Kagome's gift - it's something he's shown a fair bit of interest in, and the implication "we'd like to share food from our old homes with you" is a nice one.
