On Thread Etiquette:

I'm not going to weigh in on the logic of either side's arguments, but I will ask that everyone read over what they write and really consider if the words they used are polite and won't be inflammatory intentionally or not. You cant account for people's tolerances perfectly but at least try to say your piece without saying things that can be easily construed as overly dismissive of the other side of the argument, thank you.

Please endeavour to be cordial. :^)

Personally, I think the argument is a wash at best, since I can so easily turn it around and say it's SV's obsession with research and uplift that is pushing that idea, not something "truly" making a character.
Problem here is that SV puts things ahead of research sometimes, but I can't recall ever seeing anything placed above the moral high ground. A character with infinite moral integrity always making the most pure and socially acceptable choices is extremely boring to me. I suppose I could have worded it more tactically, saying one choice isn't a real character was off-base, but it was spur of the moment annoyance and resignation that SV was once again doing exactly what I thought it would. Didn't expect it to actually get to anyone, but I probably should've.

I'm sure it wasn't a literally homogeneous opinion and reasoning, and that some people had their own reasons to think Home was genuinely the more interesting choice. I'm just also confident that "home, family, and selflessness is better than what can be seen as self-interest" was a factor in many calculations, and in the end of the day it's SV doing what SV was always going to. There's nothing wrong with a forum's userbase generally thinking along similar lines, or with acknowledging that. It's just that it can be frustrating for people who differ.

We got a trait simply by talking to him. There is more to him than what meets the eye.

Also runesmith coordination is beautiful to see.

You know what we should do, we should at least cover the ceiling, floor and walls in our section of the underway with runes to make them as stable as possible. If the Slanns do their magic, the damage in our section will not be that bad.

At least I hope so.
