I'm not going to weigh in on the logic of either side's arguments, but I will ask that everyone read over what they write and really consider if the words they used are polite and won't be inflammatory intentionally or not. You cant account for people's tolerances perfectly but at least try to say your piece without saying things that can be easily construed as overly dismissive of the other side of the argument, thank you.

The smelter itself is a metallurgical achievement - it makes sense to double down on things that might improve it, especially since Master of Metal is already a strength. Rune of Charcoal in particular could maybe be the foundation for an Adamant-relevant Master Rune in the future?

The way to do this is for Karstah to keep experimenting with combinations like she did for Flamedrinking. I can think of alot of interesting designs she can pull off with Charcoal and other known Forge, Purification and Runic Energy based Rune combos.

Yes, she also have a reserve of intresthing comercial trinkets to distract her father.
Managing the Male mebers of your family is one of the implicit roles female dwarfs have to perform.

Counter argument:
Both Gronti and Engennering in general could be counted as 'Odd' under most circumstances expirinced by Karlah.
It may be possible to further elevete the Specialty of higher status...

Ya know, I can see Karstah develop drakeguns at the rate of runes she's learning. Just gotta get the mats and rune sequence right for the prototype Dragon's Breath Extractor and… a Chonky Sausage.

I was too exited for the bigger goats despite knowing it'd take a good while yet for much work to be done on that end. I want Master Yorri to see it personally as well.
