On Thread Etiquette:

I'm not going to weigh in on the logic of either side's arguments, but I will ask that everyone read over what they write and really consider if the words they used are polite and won't be inflammatory intentionally or not. You cant account for people's tolerances perfectly but at least try to say your piece without saying things that can be easily construed as overly dismissive of the other side of the argument, thank you.

Please endeavour to be cordial. :^)

Nice little interlude.

I don't know wether I want the King to die in glorious battle or in peaceful sleep. He will be missed either way.

"You've really poured the Clan's vaults into it at least," his wife replies, patting his shoulder.

"Want to try it out?" He asks, tone eager.

"Not without a priestess of Valaya nearby," she responds flatly.
This cracks me up, the sassy dryness of a flat tone.
Ach! I just used the same old spices I use in my troll jerky, a bit of fat, some cream, maybe a dash of some herbs I found to my liking," he explains simply
Did, did he created Jello?
"Once more into the thick of things I think. Can't have Gloin growing complacent after all," he mutters.
I can see it already, him wearing his armor, then a terrible beast stabs him, (of course he grunts, not moan in pain or release a sudden gasp of pain but a stubborn grunt) lifting him up, a couple of inches and throwing him to a very very ancient tree a collapse down but for others, he is dead due to how mighty that stab was it crwated shock waves, cue slow motion as the guards, Gloin, Gimli realizing what happens, went into a controled rage and the Beast is hewn down to mincemeat, they gather around him, realised he is alive, and see into that stab on his armor (a stab that completely shatter his front and back chestplate) the recognisable gimmer of gromril, chainmail gromril. And it would be on how it was seen by the whole northern throng that the rumors where real, Snorri Gift Giver really did create a wonder only Grungni could do.
a table with two tankards, a lone figure in a fine red cloak sits by his lonesome, one of the tankards in hand and ignoring the other patrons that mingle and laugh around him.
Is this the same Dawi from that same flashback on the funeral?...wait is that Snorri!?

While a nice idea, Otrek's armour is made out of Adamant. If anything could damage that, gromril chainmail wouldn't help

Joll blinks, instinctively bringing the blanket up to cover his chest and looks down at the sheets in bemusement.

"It appears that I've been seduced," he mumbles to himself.

Had he been paying more attention, Joll muses, he would have noticed the pillow that slammed into his face.
HA! Of course Fjolla would be the one to take the initiative once she found someone worthy of her time. And of course that person would be the oddest Runesmith in the Karaz Ankor.
If you don't take him you're sure Master Yorri would, the man's told you so himself. You can't say for sure who'd do a better job at teaching the lad, on one hand, Master Yorri would understand him instantly, on the other hand, he'd likely make the boy a runesmith even odder than himself. Bah.
If they decide to go further than a one night stand, I both eagerly await and fear what a combination of such prodigious skill and thinking outside the box could create. Like Snorri on steroids probably.

But here is the idea yeah, it is the FIRST gromril chainmail, (edit: created by Snorri of course)it got to have symbolism as an armor that can tank a direct Bloodthirster axepick and only have a few chainmail lodge on the broken skin and a small bruise along the impact
Snorri, is usually the one described with a red coat like that.
Thank you for the information, i did not know that, i thought it was dark blue, and the red one is his master Yorri'@
Are you talking about Iggun's funeral?
To be honest, no I did not know it was Snorri's wife funeral that i remember, memories are a funny think innit? Remember an event but forget on where you read it.

I'm happy with the 2Jolls ship

But I'm even more happy about Jargrim: That name is mentioned three times in quest: Snorri's first apprentice.

And given that he's speaking to a Brana, he's either in Ravnsvake or in Drakk!

We probably won't get Yorri. We might be getting Jargrim

Snorri will be so happy! And angry! But more happy that his first apprentice is still alive

It's the second created by Snorri. The first went to Barak Azamar (Snorri's own armour).

That is not Snorri's Apprentice. The Doylist reason is that soulcake wouldn't introduce him like that. On the Watsonian side, there are several more issues. Runesmiths do not typically call themselves a Guild. They are a Guild, but they are very independent. Jargrim mentioned that he had talked with Terrorbeak about the chicks about two decades prior, and that is two decades for Snorri to notice Jargrim.

Also, Runesmiths are generally pressured to do their duty and have children. Jargrim's nonchalance to the topic is more or less proof that he isn't Snorri's apprentice. Furthermore, if Jargrim had been a Runesmith, he wouldn't have mentioned teaching his nephews without mentioning the Gift.

Plus, the fact that he has the ability to take on an apprentice of his own. I don't think any of the missing ones have completed their journeying yet.

Jargrim (our first apprentice) is already a master, just as the rest of our earlier apprentices. He has been one for centuries.

Edit: Here is the proof for anyone wondering.
The Journeyman's trials were always the greatest gamble for any master. Ignoring the obvious potential risk of death, no matter how well trained they could be, a beardling sometimes just didn't manage to get it into their head that they weren't done learning. You knew many masters who lost at least one apprentice to that particular bit of madness, and to your quiet sorrow, knew many more whose apprentices ended up dead by some twist of fate or improper care.

You'd somehow, thank the ancestors, not yet lost a single apprentice to either fate, but knew all too well that your luck wouldn't last. You were only a spry six and a half centuries old after all, time was on fate's side sadly.

Snorri's part of last update was sad.

Whole 'Memories' were Valentines day related - life and romance between loved one. And for Snorri? For him, that day was an inn, table with two chairs and two tankard, one of them untouched. Drinking alone, only memories for company.

Maybe he's dithering because he should have written his Master earlier and he's scared of how hard Snorri will grumble.

I don't think the pressured to have children is true in this day and age: of our living apprentices, only Dolgi is married with kids. Of the Runesmiths we've seen, only three are confirmed to be married with children. Dolgi, Bara Steelplate and Igna Metalheart.

Besides... it would be nice to recover one of the lost apprentices.

That is wrong, and quite frankly, accuses Jargrim of incompetence. He is only a hundred and thirty or so years younger than Snorri. He would know how worried Snorri is and would not do that to his Master.

There is no reason to think that the impetus is completely new. Runesmiths have always been a small portion of the population of the Karaz Ankor. We have five (known) living apprentices. Two of them haven't even finished their Journeying yet. We do not really interact with Runesmiths enough get involved with their family lives. Our peers in the Brotherhood of Dron have pointed out how much of a loner Snorri is.

Of course it would be nice. But this is obviously not Jargrim.

A very human answer to a very dwarf problem
Finding a dwarf capable of being a runesmith is difficult, there are more of you compared to the dying days of the Karaz Ankor, but there are also more dwarfs overall. They're having just enough of a manpower problem for this issue to not be terrible. The gift is more common than in the latter days of the empire, but conversely, there are fewer clans capable of producing the gift because no one from a runesmith clan has married into it.

Where do you think the impetus for runesmiths and runelords to have kids came from?
