On Thread Etiquette:

I'm not going to weigh in on the logic of either side's arguments, but I will ask that everyone read over what they write and really consider if the words they used are polite and won't be inflammatory intentionally or not. You cant account for people's tolerances perfectly but at least try to say your piece without saying things that can be easily construed as overly dismissive of the other side of the argument, thank you.

Please endeavour to be cordial. :^)

The actual panning was done after Snorri runes up the Griffens airie
so thats the end of the conclave section, and the results of turn 21

Given the context of the quest, that's honestly depressing to read for one simple reason.

It credits Valaya with Runes, and Grugni with Smelting.

The Time of Woes fell so far, so hard, that they forgot Thungni and Smednir existed.

Which is just.... I don't even have words for a people so badly battered they lost their Smith God and Magic Smith God.
Or, you know, this is just some old GW lore from before they decided to include thungni and smednir

Also, one thing. Smednir isn't a smith god, thats Grungni. Smednir is a smelter god

It's from 8th edition. That's... not old. That's modern and recent, and the latest bit of data.

Admittedly, 8th ed was mostly fucking stupid overall, but that's an entirely different discussion.

Your chief Reckoner and frequent advisor Dimrond Dimzadsson, bows himself from the room, the flicker of firelight briefly illuminating the Bull pendant he wears concealed under his robes. His words have strengthened your resolve. All this is for the benefit of Karak Kadrin, even the distasteful parts.
Interesting. A timeline where the Dwarfs of Hashut become... well, basically rebels and insurrectionists and agitators amongst the rest of the Karaz Ankor. Usurpers, plotters, schemers. Rather than being a full-on separate kingdom in the east, they become... an enemy within.

An interesting, if troubling, outcome. One that can be quite damaging and problematic for Dwarfkind. As, I imagine that these cults will continue and last until the final fragment of Hashut is permanently and totally destroyed. And/or every branch and connection to the initial apprentices of Hashut are totally eradicated, with nothing being left of their legacy.

With how rich Snorri and a great colonization wave coming, we should try and lure more of them to come to the far north by offer them that we will help build them there Kraka

Hmm, perhaps they are different. But since Snorri isn't going to learn those secrets, because they are Cult or Guild Secrets, and this is a quest about Runes and being a Runelord it's not relevant.

Doesn't matter if it's copper or adamant, as long as they are useful. Sure another genius would have been great, a really good smith would have been, well, good. One that won't be able to go beyond a "simple runesmith" ? I'm okay with that, not every draf needs a legendary pickaxe so I'm alright with that.

"Simple runesmith" is still better than nothing for me.

Dude had eight kids so far and all of them inherited the rune gene, if they all turned out to be prodigies as well I reckon that'd have been enough to count as a retroactive Masterwork for replicating what only Thungni's testicles could do previously.

I'm pretty certain Klorah is doing most of the heavy lifting there, if it weren't for her Dolgi would probably have spent that time making runes instead of making runesmiths.

Well, Dolgi's repeated stint in recovery should also have a pretty big part of it too. Talk about getting stuck in bed eh?

Thing I noticed on a reread. Wardstones are described as the same teal color as Zharrgal. When we got the Gatebreaker title.

Hm. Could be related to those Wards of Valaya from the previous page?

... Actually. What if the only thing Valaya taught, was just a particular way of using Thungni's runes?

Namely, a way of powering Thungni's runes using Deep Magic. Valaya's Wards simply refer to the practice, or those set of runes, that fall under the category of:
*warding and being defensive
*drawing on Deep Magic energy to do so

Thungni's Master Rune of Waking drew on Deep Magic. Whereas Valaya found a way to make ward runes be powered by Deep Magic, instead of -- or in addition to -- what they're usually powered off of.

Who knows?

My gawd we have no grudges we completely filled them all
That's generally the state of affairs of things.

I thought we had one to Hashut?
We do but its an Eternal Grudge, which is a Grudge with no practical remedy, so Soul doesn't list them. We also have one against Chaos in general, and such.

6 (Cold Silence) no peace, no mercy for those that offer none. A Grudge so ingrained that no amount of vengeance can truly sate it barring the absolute annihilation of the foe and anything related to them. If Grudges are a weight on a dwarf's back, this is effectively gravity. Something that will never truly disappear barring truly unlikely and mayhaps even impossible circumstances. Chaos, Skaven, URKS, Grobi.
This.
