This girl infuriates me...

I'm really sorry guys. I know it's a really crappy thing to do right now, but I'm gonna have to change. I have a rough glimmer of an idea on what to do but for now...

[x] I believe she used up the grief seed I gave her. I don't sense it.
[x] See if you can get a better look at those papers she's holding. Be careful. Don't accidentally pull Megane into the timestop.
[x] If nothing in those papers demands your immediate attention, look around the room. See if you can find any other clues.
-[x] Look around the apartment .
[x] Discuss findings with Mami and Homura.

@Muramasa, @Gadjo, @chocolote12, @moonstne.

Changing vote just to warn you.
Imo your previous vote was just fine. Going to say this right now. Whatever happens here, it's not the end of the world.

[] Tell Mami and Homura that she doesn't have the grief seed you gave her.
[] Take a brief look around. See if you can get a better look at those papers she's holding. Be careful. Don't accidentally pull Megane into the timestop. Look for things that would give a better insight into her. Check for any other papers and notes. We should make sure to leave everything exactly as it was, though.
[] Close and lock all the doors that were locked. Use magic and ask for help if necessary. Exit the apartment . And get as far away from her as you can while still being able to sense and manipulate her grief. Move grief constructs far away as well. Exit out of timestop.
[] Telepath and greet her. Be firm and resolved. Don't give her any reason to doubt your words. Keep going, don't let her interrupt you.
-[] Tell her that you are currently outside looking for her and had just passed her school. Describe it.
-[] You will end up finding her, if you have to. You can sense other Magical Girls from a long distance, have somewhat of an idea where she lives, and you have a lot time. But you really rather not do that. Believe or it not, you really just want to help her.
-[] You don't want to violate her wishes and just show up suddenly where she lives, but you will if you have to because this is fucking serious. Judging by what she told you earlier about using the Seed once, her gem is getting corrupted very quickly. You thought that the Seed you gave her would tide her over for a for a long while, but you suspected recently that might not be the case. She has already used up the seed you gave her already hasn't she?
--[] There are other dangers for too much corruption besides her mental state being heavily affected. But this something she needs to hear personally. This can't wait for a night or day, it's too dangerous.
-[] Will she meet with you now? It doesn't even have to be you if she's that angry with you. She could talk to Mami.
--[] Or is she actually going to make you hunt her down to her house or apartment and start knocking on her door? One way or another, this is happening.

I have no idea where this came from.:V

Goddamnit, Megane. Goddamnit.

Cleanse the idiot and read her the riot act. Calmly.

From an uncharitable point of view, she's just effectively put someone's soul beyond our ability to retrieve and maybe save.

Okay, now that I got the kneejerk reaction out of the way...

Hmm. Not sure I have time to think up a real vote now, but...

Step 1. Cleanse her. The absence of the grief seed is a Problem, but it's one that'll keep for later.
Step 2. Take the papers without bringing her into timestop. Read them. We need to know more about her to help her.
Step 3. Drop timestop. Say we let ourselves in, ask her what's wrong- and reiterate that we can and will help her with it.

Under no circumstances should we leave before we let her know the facts of life, but that shouldn't be our opener. Trying to hide what we've done is a waste of time and dishonest. Admit we broke in to cleanse her- and why.

As much as I normally hate votes that could be seen as stalling...social seems to be one of the few places where we should make an exception to that, and the papers are useful knowledge.

[x] I...think she used up the grief seed I gave her. I don't sense it.
[x] See if you can get a better look at those papers she's holding. Be careful. Don't accidentally pull Megane into the timestop. Use grief tendrils to tug it free without making direct contact if possible.
[x] If nothing in those papers demands your immediate attention, look around the room. See if you can find any other clues.
-[x] Look around the apartment.
[x] Discuss findings with Mami and Homura. Ask Mami if she'd be willing to start talking to Megane. She's...better at talking to people than we are, and Megane seems to be more annoyed at us right now.

Given how our current approach isn't working out, I say we just be honest and try and get through to her. She's upset. We should act like a human being and try and be comforting rather than...well, keep up this game of make-believe where Ono's reactions can be taken at face value.

@Firnagzen - does Ono appear to be calm or upset? How about other woman? Did we notice any pictures in the house or any other signs of inhabitants apart from those two? Apart from the beer cans on the floor, is the apartment clean and well maintained?
I forgot to respond to this, my apologies. She looks calm, the other woman looks half asleep. The house looks reasonably well maintained, if not exactly richly so, and they seem to be alone in the house.

[X] She used up the Grief Seed. Explains why she didn't even want to think about going hunting with us... Hopefully didn't mean to go hunt alone in order to show up with a Grief Seed tomorrow.
[X] Check if there's more pieces of paper scattered around, or in the trash. If there are, check in case they're suicide notes, or something similarly bad.
[X] If you don't find anything too bad, leave everything like it was, re-lock the doors and go stand outside her window, standing on a flying carpet. Ask Homura to end the timestop and knock on Ono's window. We're gonna have that talk, so she's got two minutes to either come outside or invite us in.
-[X] If there's no window for this, use telepathy instead: If she doesn't come outside, we're knocking and speaking with whoever we need to in order to talk with her.

[x] Meta: Adjust speech as needed. Answer standard questions.
[x] Do a quick scan of the room (books on shelves, decorations, etc), but do not poke into her papers or personal effects.
[x] I don't sense the grief seed I gave her.
[x] To Mami Homura: What do you think? In timestop or not? I'd prefer not, but her mother is in the other room...
-[x] If split, go with non-timestop.
[x] Hi, Ono! Just got here. We need to talk.
[x] Warn her against making too much noise, since her mother is in the next room.
[x] If she panics, stay serious to continue the talk. If she starts a fight, have Mami subdue her. If she tries to ignore us, continue the talk seriously, but try to draw her out.
[x] Find a place to sit. Accept Mami-cushions, but no grief chairs. Sitting on the floor is fine.
[x] So, the schoolwork is getting to you? Gesture at the papers she's holding.
-[x] Assure her we did not look at the papers
--[x] If verbally accused of such (ie: confirmation that the guess was correct): Just putting a bunch of things together. Mami told me there was a bit of a competition between Mitakihara and Yokosuka. Saw the school on the way over; has the same overly-ostentatious architecture as Mitakihara. Easy to guess that they're always trying to one-up each other. I've also helped Mami with her schoolwork, so I'm well aware of how hard they're pushing on the scholastic side, too. With that much pressure to succeed, well... It'd get pretty rough if you're not always at the top.
[x] But the real problem here is the grief you've been accumulating.
[x] I don't sense the grief seed I gave you yesterday, which means you've had to use it a couple of times, and probably gave it to Kyuubey.
[x] And your soul gem is already about a quarter full, again.
[x] The average magical girl uses about 1 grief seed per week, give or take. Someone with high efficiency skills can stretch it out to one seed every couple weeks.
[x] You're going through about one seed per day. That's not sustainable.
[x] There are a lot of reasons for accumulating grief far faster than normal. I'd only be guessing if I were to try to figure this out myself.
[x] No matter what the problem is, though, I want to help you fix it. So we're going to stay here and talk about it til we can work something out.
-[x] And if you say, You can't fix my problem., then you just don't know how persistent I can be about these things.
-[x] However... Maybe I should let Mami do most the talking, so I don't put my foot in my mouth too much.

Guys? Why, exactly, can't we just cut the bullshit after investigating the note, admit we broke in because we were worried, and just ask her what's wrong and offer to help?

We're presumably not letting her drive us off until we're sure things are okay, things clearly aren't okay right now, and we haven't actually sincerely offered to help with her problems yet in-depth.

Really. Why not just take the simplest solution that can't be misinterpreted? I really, really don't like the idea of pressuring her with an ultimatum when our entire interaction with her has been giving her false choices that've gone badly.

Mostly the same as Agent Whiskers with some good additions.

About what we should do when we start talking to Ono, I think we'll need to be a lot more discreet than we're used to. That war we stopped by defeating everyone involved? We can't force logic onto Ono that way. They were all reasonable experienced Magic Girls, Ono is neither. She's still just a teenage girl with family issues, and she's not going to like us being right, especially if we are so pushy about it.

Randomly browsing through the beginning...

Here's another tip. You (as in the character) have immense potential, and [REDACTED], because of [REDACTED] your origin as Madoka's wish from the previous loop. Thanks to that, any Wish you make will get you an enormous amount of power, it's just the nature of that power that varies from here to there.

What do you think the first [REDACTED] could mean? Heck, what is it even, gramatically? Another immense thing we have, or what?

She broke off a piece of the LoC and made it a part of her, hence her soulgem transforming.

Uh, she broke off a part of the Law of Cycles and made it Madoka. That's the only part she stole.

Homura's Soul Gem became the Dark Orb because it ceased being an egg meant to hatch into a Witch (as it would if left to it's own devices), but because Homura became a being that could only be called the Black Queen of the Universe. Magic in PMMM is psycho-active to the user in unconsciously realized symbolism.

As for how she actually did that, it's the fulfillment of her wish. The only way to 'redo her meeting and protect Kaname-san, instead of the one being protected" when 'Kaname-san' is a timeless, transcendent deity is to become a deity of greater power capable of trapping her and rewriting the universe.

And it doesn't even take much. Homura is karmically connected to Madoka before anyone else, the connection formed before her ascension, but never broken by said ascension as with every other character in the multiverse.

I'd add bringing up the possibility of giving Ono an Emptied Seed, while we're in timestop.

[x] See if you can get a better look at those papers she's holding. Be careful. Don't accidentally pull Megane into the timestop. Use grief tendrils to tug it free without making direct contact if possible.
I don't think this is a possibility.
You find Megane sitting on her bed, legs drawn up to her chest. Crumpled in her hand are some papers, ones you can't make out.
As soon as we touch the papers with our grief, she'll get pulled in the timestop.

It's the checking around the room that makes something out of those papers. If they're something she's writing, there might be other 'drafts'; if not, they're likely school papers os similar.

You have no idea just how giddy I am that the next 'chapter' will be called Questionable Ethics.

It took me 3 weeks to catch up from 1,100.

If we're going to read her the riot act, we may as well just tell her we broke in, since we make it clear we're willing to anyway.

Maybe we should try to emphasize the seriousness of the things that delayed us? I don't think that Sabrina does serious very well, so maybe we just weren't trying hard enough? We did have good reasons for blowing her off...

Difficult to do right, unless the fatigue of our day is showing on our face/posture.

Ono's doesn't really care that much right now.

Residue processing pt. 14
You growl under your breath. "The Grief Seed's gone," you say, looking at Mami and Homura as you step into the room. "That would explain why she didn't even want to consider going hunting with us, I think. Ashamed to admit it." You pause, grimacing. "Hopefully she didn't mean to go hunting alone in order to show up with a Grief Seed tomorrow."

Mami nods, looking at the girl sitting on the bed, before taking a step closer to you. You give her a quick, one armed hug to reassure her as you scan around the room.

It's cosy. Megane's room reminds you somewhat of Madoka's room, if less spacious and filled with considerably fewer chairs. Floral patterned wallpaper lines the walls, visibly worn with a scuff mark here and there. A ceiling fan-and-lamp combination hangs from the ceiling, the light off - Megane's sitting here in the darkness. A small study table sits off to the side, with some stationery and papers scattered about.

They're not poor, you don't think.

But they're not rich, either.

Homura glances around the room, and without a word, drifts over to the table, leafing through the papers.

You'll take that as... well, pretty much the same idea as you had, then.

"We should take a look around," you say, already starting for the papers. Mami follows you, glancing anxiously around the lifeless, colour-bleached world of the time-stop.

You fold your arms behind your back and lean over the bed, peering at the papers.

... school results, it looks like. A generous splash of reds, shaded grey by the timestop.

"Che," you grunt, straightening. "School results."

Mami sighs. "I think..."

"She's not very good," Homura says drily, carefully replacing the papers on the table. And now that you're looking, you can see rough scrawls of ink, probably scratched into the papers by frustration.

You sigh, too. "We need to talk to her."

Homura's eyes flick towards you, and then away. Not it.

"I..." Mami starts, trailing off.

"She can't go on like this, but... I'm not sure what to say," you admit. "She doesn't like me much, and... I'm afraid she's just going to clam up." You glance at Mami. "Mami, you're... better at talking to people than we are, and Megane seems more annoyed with me right now."

Mami looks torn. "I don't think she likes me, either," she says. "Do you remember... she mentioned the school rivalry?" Mami bites her lip, glancing away. "I could try," she says, giving you a wan smile.

So I just kinda amlagamated the votes a bit.

From an uncharitable point of view, she's just effectively put someone's soul beyond our ability to retrieve and maybe save.
I agree with this kneejerk reaction but the goal to stop all grief seeds going to QB does have to take a back seat to practicality until such time as we can start distributing alternate cleansing methods.

It'd be too unfair to condemn her for handing off a seed when:
1) the choice is to give the seed to us or QB - and QB's the more official/trusted party ATM; we're the suspicious meguca group in competition for Mitakihara's seeds.
2) she wasn't aware of the ramifications of her actions - ignorance is bliss in this case.
3) we have no guarantee that we can actually do a de-witching in the first place
4) literally everyone else on this and every other QB-infested planet (barring the few we've talked out of it) are doing the same thing.

(Now I just need to repeat these reasons until I stop feeling irritated with her for doing it.)

Goes without saying that if we do pull off a de-witch that the last act in PMAS is an invasion of QBHQ to rescue all the lost seeds and then sail off into the stars to oppose QB wherever it may go, right?

On a related note (and looking ahead past dealing with Ono) - will we be making a trip out to Sendai/Ishinomaki/Fukushima/whoever-took-us-up-on-our-offer tomorrow to do cleansing/seed exchange?
