On the one hand, this sounds a lot like most of our other proto-science wrpped up in mystical babble, as usual. There appears to be a system involving historical records at play that dictates these actions. I feel there's a strong chance of this leading to further scientific advancements.

On the other hand, Highlands Delende Est.

Decisions, decisions...

Historical determinism is nonsense, as shown by the abject failure of soviet style communism.

AN is going to have the Ymaryn enter a Civil War, Dark Age, or Social Fracture, no matter what we do. That's the point of everything that's being altered lately. The war against the Khemetri was supposed to break the Ymaryn, but didn't, so other mechanisms are being employed.

I disagree. If AN had wanted the Khemetri war to end us he wouldn't have the Prince decide to sue for peace. Quite frankly i suspect he fudged that one in our favor, because we had been kicking so much at that point that our stability was looking pretty bad. Meanwhile the Khemetri probably had an ample reserve of RA. We would have lost that war in the long run.

Guys, there's nothing to gain from intervening in the Swamp Folk and TH. We're not Team America: World Police. We're trying to live peacefully so long as we are left alone, only going to war to eliminate threats. We should continue to do that. War against the HK is justified because they have proven to be a consistent threat to us, stabbing us in the back at every opportunity, sabotaging us, and stealing our tech. The TH might be unfriendly, but they are not a consistent threat. There's no reason we couldn't make peace with the TH once their war is over.

Indeed we are not world police America, we are manifest destiny America. We will not get in and then leave, we will get in, carve ourself some territory, force them to pay us for the effort and then wait for another opportunity to present itself.

If the worries that the HK will backstab us as soon as we're distracted are true, we can still get both!

It's impossible to consistently predict how people will behave. You can predict weather patterns to some extent, but people are too complicated. Not many people predicted Trump becoming president, for example. Even the best hedge fund managers lose against index funds in the stock market. Even with 2016 technology, drawing conclusions on future behavior based on past behavior is very unreliable.
It's not about actually getting accurate measures of how people will behave, it's about the types of study developed to do said prediction.

Going this route opens up the door for the study of history and sociology in addition to keeping far more accurate records of both of those subjects in addition to astronomy. All of these will benefit a multitude of sciences and research down the line in both the near and long term. We can start figuring out that other nations have reasons for going to war more easily, start looking at what other people are actually doing, start paying attention to actual international politics.

This has the potential to catapult our understanding of societies and international politics by leagues. Yes, it still is half mumbo jumbo, but only half mumbo jumbo, and the acting of that mumbo jumbo is actually the development of more sophisticated mathmatics anyways, so it will still be useful!

Most people have expressed some variation of the opinion that this is the best way to test Astrology/Love of Wisdom, rather than because they believe the predictions. Accusing them of buying into superstitions will do nothing to change their vote because that's not what they're doing.

It's a terrible way to test it.

In order to prove the prophecy wrong, we'd have to face terrible disaster while doing what it tells us. Any plan which requires steering us directly into disaster is bad.

Disregarding the prophecy is a better test, because then all we need to do is avoid disaster, which we want to do anyway.

Our priests have never done this?
There was one time with the spirit-touched guy where the priests were like "we don't know what to do with this guy, maybe these words mean something?" and we in turn set up heathcare for the injured.
They tried to say "abuse of animals is wrong" but we overruled them anyway, and that wasn't really a bamboozling.
they don't try to con us just try to enact their erroneous beliefs

@Andres110 If we don't act as if they're our nemesis we lose the trait

You are directly and specifically wrong.

The Ymaryn are now required to go to war to defend outsiders, otherwise we will suffer a constant drain on Prestige, which will eventually drop the Subordinate State limit, thus provoking a loss of land, and causing the whole nation to implode.

AN is going to have the Ymaryn enter a Civil War, Dark Age, or Social Fracture, no matter what we do. That's the point of everything that's being altered lately. The war against the Khemetri was supposed to break the Ymaryn, but didn't, so other mechanisms are being employed.
I'm going to have to barge in here to say 'holy shit hell no' to this opinion (because it is an opinion, no matter how you've phrased it). AN had previously admitted to some success laziness bias in favor of the Ymarryn. This is true. AN stated that he would be properly accounting for some negative trait effects that he previously skipped over. This is also true.

AN never said he was going to 'break us' because we beat the system he wanted to have. That is an opinion brought forth by pessimism and a Player vs. Dungeon Master mentality, which is, at it's core, the wrong mentality to hold during a game of any sort. AN is better than petty rule-bending to break the civ. Best drop the thought now, so you can not fall into a hate spiral where the end thought is 'fuck AN, we're taking them all with us then' (like every other sufficiently long AN quest has had at one point or another).

Bloody hell, people. The Doom Comet is coming back.

Now is not the time to undermine the authority of the one group that can tell people they aren't going to die.

Stop: To be or not to be retarded
*Quack* you and your retarded predictions.
to be or not to be retarded While the impromptu censorship of 'fuck' into 'quack' was actually genuinely amusing and made me laugh, the word 'retarded' used as a pejorative is recognized as a slur under Rule 2, and this isn't civil at all under Rule 3. Please take 25 points and don't do this again.

Hypocrisy much? You accuse others of arguing against the standing of religion here because they're atheists IRL but all out admit you argue for the standing of religion here because
you're religious IRL. That's kinda a double standard, you know.

And no, IRL, religion has been a pox.
a pox upon your posts The very first bulletpoint of the second rule of Sufficient Velocity is 'Be understanding of other viewpoints and perspectives,' the second is 'Be considerate of how your opinions and statements can be interpreted by others.' Calling religion a pox is simply flatly out of line; take 25 points and please don't repeat this kind of behaviour.

fixed Look, I know that arguments can get heated, and I know that it can get very easy to feel that what you say is ignored. But I'm going to step in here and assign you 25 points too, as well as request you don't do this again.
