My problem is that he sprinkles it with lies.

He stated that ths Northern Trade Post would require 5 turns of effort before we see benefits, despite the fact that AN said only three turns of potentially needing assistance. This also ignores how we saw benefits from our Greenshore Trading Post as soon as we built it, not some turns after.

If I remember right he five turns is what he calculated as the worst case scenario.

Aren't we an empire already?
AN said we were too culturally, religiously and ethnically unified to count as an empire, AN claimed an empire was made of several distinctly different groups unified via a military hegemony, we are a super kingdom of a single ethnicity with a single religion and an only slightly variant culture overall in comparison to true Empires

Aren't we an empire already? :o
Also, old man kings.....

No. Technically we were a sort of Communist/Elected-Monarchy/Oligarchy thing.

Now were shifting more towards the traditional Imperial Power role just with a highly centralized economy.

All hail the Glorious Emperor on his Arbor Throne!

@Academia Nut
What do the Ymaryn officially call themselves? Kingdom of Ymaryn?
And what would it take to get them to officially call themselves an Empire?

My problem is that he sprinkles it with lies.
And my problem with the veekie haters is they say shit like this. It's base and rude.

I don't always agree with the guy, but this kind of stuff doesn't do anyone any favors. He has an opinion. It can be wrong or right or even both.

As for that particular instance, AN stated it was three turns until they were out of imminent danger territory. Veekie isn't wrong in the assumption we will have to support them afterwords. They're far enough away that exchanging out administrators through influence subordinate and keeping them in our good graces through support subordinate is probably necessary.

I'm pretty sure they just call themselves The People or The Ymaryn.
To be an empire we'd have to conquer some culturally and religiously variant peoples, I believe, and then hold them via military force.

Seems like we aren't suited to running an empire anyway.

I wonder if we could somehow accept Christians, Jews, or Muslims and somehow make them Ymaryn even if they aren't going to follow Ymaryn gods.

Well isn't it convenient that we just happen to making certain plans against the Trelli.

Empire sounds snazzier, though.

Dragon Throne.

We got T-Rex bones for a throne.

Arbot Palace is okay, though.

Doubtful. The Abrahamic faiths aren't terribly tolerant of others. It's kind of one of their core tenets.

Edit: so I don't sound like a jackass, modern moralities and sensibilities have changed this a great deal, but historically the faiths of Abraham were intolerant as fuck.

Even three turns - three turn actions and that for what? It's the friggen taiga. Nothing's there! It wouldn't even be at the source of the amber, and pine wood isn't that necessary.

To add to this, most religions are pretty intolerant of others in the ancient world. Government, culture, and society as a whole are so intrinsically tied to religion that mixing faiths just isn't practical.

I mean look at us, we are actively stamping out other belief systems within our own territories.

We have a habit of eating other religions and making their gods into lesser gods of our pantheons. Whilst I'm sure we could be accommodating to these peoples if they were a minority I don't think we could tolerate a religion that doesn't accept any others the way those three do. Their whole 'one god only' stuff wouldn't fly with CA.

Plans for limiting their aggressive expansion and possible causing a civ collapse if they throw down with us. It's not outright conquest we are aiming for

True dat.

In a non violent manner, one which allows certain, non heretical gods, to be intergrated.

I've said his a few times, but I doubt it's taiga. Even AN stated it isn't the first forest encountered after the steppes. With all of Northern Europe and Asia Minor being moved ten degrees south, what ever taiga there would have been in that area is at least coniferous termperate forest like what you find in the Alps, Pacific Northwest, and Rocky Mountains. It's quite valuable land for a variety of reasons.

This is pretty blatantly ignoring everything good about a position just to advance your own.

Also, it's as good as being at the source of the amber. We are the only source of it in our major markets, so whatever we have will dominate the trade.

This one is special, in that my favorite vote of Stallions is losing because people are afraid they'll start a war while, at the exact same fucking time, voting to start a war.
No, we're afraid we'll lose control of our armed forces. AN even confirmed that it would push us so far into the red that our positive stab score wouldn't even matter. We'd have military units doing their own thing left and right. Which could include starting a war we don't want, or a myriad of other things. That is to be avoided. Meanwhile, a war we do find acceptable and work towards, that's another matter.

Paper had been mentioned before:
-Mills - We need sawmills for wood pulp to be a material at all. Utilization and experimentation with waste wood would have good results.
-Libraries - This generates demand for writing material
-Study/Expand Forest - Preferably after sawmills, this would be to figure out what wood is best for producing wood pulp.
-Study Alchemy - Bleaching of the pulp to create a consistent writing material
-Study actions in general - Innovation triggers to provoke greater writing material use.

Alchemy is only needed for white paper, which is a luxury. The basic paper may as well be any color as long as stuff is legible and cheap.

The King or the priesthood would probably use white paper for official things, but for day to day uses, it's not worthwhile.

The biggest use we could get from Study Forest id domesticated bees. That gives us plenty of honey and wax. And wax was antiquities scratch pad as you could write stuff on it and just erase it if you want to change it.

Sigh. I'm adding North to my approval vote.

I don't like it, but I figure that if we dedicate the actions, we have very good odds of success. West, we could do everything possible and still get squished by 5 mercenary armies.
