We should definitely spend some research cycles working on runes, yes. Even if we don't level runes right now, doing preliminary runic research makes sense. By that I mean we should start working on genin version of runes we expect to need later - runes for hiding, defense, etc. Probably not Elemental Mastery, Orochimaru doesn't need *another* nuke (and any research done in his Basement is research we cannot hide from him).

Oh, and we are now significantly better armed to ask the toads about learning Sage Mode ! Thanks Orochimaru !

@Paperclipped @Velorien @eaglejarl
Hi, I noticed a problem with the character sheets.

On Noburi's, his Intimidation effective level is adding the Physical Stress Track number, rather than his TYS points. This can be fixed by changing the C8 that'd being added to C10

On Hazō's sheet, his effective Resolve level isn't gaining TYS points from the Forged in Fire stunt, which can be fixed by just adding C10.
I think FiF only applies to Rapport and Empathy.

In light of EJ endorsing this post I will not pursue this any further, but my instinct was that Great Seal sized installations would be capable of regional, continental, or even global effects. Having Hazo's first GS-tier effect be protecting Leaf the world from his own superweapon would have been an excellent rebuttal to Shikaku's criticism about how we should have invented Skywalker countermeasures before sharing them with the world.
Note that I was specifically endorsing IV's post as written: the idea that a series of small-AOE runes was not going to be an effective way to protect Leaf, and that with EM nukes offense beats defense by a country mile since it's cheaper and easier. If you create a rune that protects entire regions or continents or the world then that's a different thing.

SHIKAMARU: I, too, will allow the Nara to go without a legitimate heir on your word alone. Surely whatever unknown lore you have obtained is superior to the millennium of Thinker lore that sees no problem with the idea.
I'm starting to think they just want us to think that the Thinkers have lore, when really they just sit down for five minutes and Think and the resulting brain wiggles are the lore...

Well, the Frozen Skein is not called the "GM Mouthpiece" bloodline in the post with the character sheets for nothing..

My headcanon is the Nara Entity is EJ while the Mori one is Velorien because it induces callous self-loathing in not-so-innocent teenage girls so that he gets to write them overcoming their trauma. Introduce one more for Paper and find two extra QMs to do some wiggly brain wiggling and we'd get the Five in full..

And you know, QMs being the shards that collectively form the Tenfold Abomination, the nigh-omnipotent god of the setting and final antagonist we need to beat to truly win, is quite thematic.

They believe these are basic descriptions of the seals in the chain.

  1. Creates a probably-invisible, tiny chakra construct that immediately dissipates.
  2. Creates a chakra construct that intakes a huge amount of environmental chakra, then slowly dissipates.
  3. Another chakra construct. This one holds the environmental chakra in it for a few minutes before dissipating.
  4. Another chakra construct. This one interacts with the environment around it in some unknown way.
  5. The same chakra construct as above, except the interactions are displayed on the seal. Kagome thinks there are similarities with his chakrascope seal.
  6. Another chakra construct that interacts with the environment around it, but this one channels an even huger amount of chakra.
  7. The same chakra construct as above, with interactions displayed on the seal. A scrawled note says "To do - ask Rin about med nin uses?"
  8. A variant of the seal above, taking in even more ambient chakra.

So now we know that minato seals use environmental chakra, which is probably ambient chakra. This might disprove Oro's claim, and might also be the reason why Minato got so juiced up (IIRC he challenged every other hokage candidate at the same time). Dude was using ambient chakra wholesale rather than having to filter it through his chakra network, by leveraging seals to collect them. I think the TH part came into play when he'd need to filter out the human part of the ambient chakra, and put it into his network.

Wait holy shit

If he did *that*, then he was just running around with unlimited magic juice.

"thereisnospoon" indeed...

Nope, EJ is clearly Jashin.

"just punch something"
weirdly fixated on Hazou
"go actually kill things I will give you cool buffs I promise just fight something"
Likes murder and uplift
causes blatant contrivances to give plot hooks/drop essies on us.

The single update that most supported Jashin's interests was the one where EJ seized the reigns.
EJ gave a 5xp base rate on the "appease Jashin" baditmurder update.

Can we call these Jinchūriki Seals? It gets confusing now that we are on track to actually learn how to perform minatosealing, which we theorize will enable us to create chakra construct effects with paper seals.

"Whatever. We both need to think about this some more and try and get all the angles covered before talking. Before you go, are there any resources I've got that would help you with this whole mess?"
  • Request notes on the Tower's best OPSEC and static-defense seals for Hazō and Kagome.
Whether we do rune (or rift) research in Konoha at Orochimaru's secured site or at an undisclosed location far far away, these will be very helpful.

Plus, it's something we'd probably get anyway as one of the village's two jōnin-level sealmasters.

EDIT: This is such an obvious thing to do that Orochimaru straight up assumed we already got everything we could on this front from Naruto.
"Yet the fact that you ask me for aid suggests that you cannot achieve secrecy even with the resources now available to your ally, the Fox," Orochimaru said.

EDIT 2: @eaglejarl @Velorien @Paperclipped could we abstract the details of these by having Kagome automatically learn and incorporate them into his perimeters (assuming Naruto shares them) or would this require actual mechanics for each seal?

Orochimaru eyed him for a moment. "You are grasping at power, with your investigation of bloodline transplants, learnable elements, nature chakra, and Seventh Path ninjutsu."

"Yes, Lord Orochimaru," Hazō said.

"Good," Orochimaru said. "Perhaps you are less of a waste than I first thought."

Yup, when we go Missing, Orochimaru is 100% going to believe that we're following his advice.
