Well, we can traverse it by falling and then walking so it should be fine, right?
We can fall only oh-so-fast tho :/

Or for a bonus intimidation factor, we could use the bodies we have sealed away.

Nothing says "We are a bunch of crazy bad-asses, leave us alone" like using their dead comrades' bodies as springboards.
Ded.

Bet j will give us points for style tho.

Might sig for a bit tho, if you don't mind :)

Thoughts:
  1. Run to the Leaf patrol. We've got a better chances of killing or negotiating with them. At the least they don't know we killed a Jounin
  2. Pretend to be a lightning patrol
  3. Leave someone behind as a sacrifice/delaying tactic
  4. Hope Keiko uses her one off combat slaughtering ability
  5. Split the party three ways
  6. Chakra boost the hell out of our running and constantly replenish (somehow)
Unfortunately, I suspect we won't be able to munchkin PMYF into faster tac move because that's not the sort of thing that works spur of the moment, and we don't have an infinite number of PMYF seals.

We could, potentially, split the party into delivers (Inoue and Hazou) and runners (everyone else) then have the delivers pretend to be another patrol catching up to them, and the runners make a couple clones to keep the numbers appearing high. Delivers join with other pursuers, then kill from behind.

@Muer'ci confirmed for springboard material? :p

Thanks for the supreme compliment for wanting to sig something I wrote. <3

Feel free to do so. All I ask for is for you to link to the post itself and/or add in my username to credit the quote. So long as people can figure where it came from and the context, everything else is up to you.

We're depending on multiple deception rolls to make it work. Dubious idea.

To be clear, I don't think we would try to literally make a goddus deal (yet), but some of the 'incremental' improvements in @MadScientist's sealing tech tree are pretty big increments.
A big chunk of these are either incremental, may involve unacceptable risks in developing, or require knowledge and resources --- such as medical knowledge --- that we would need to obtain from the outside.

Generally, even if XP are replaced with time investment, leveling a skill still has diminishing returns, so application of incremental seals combined with organizational, social, and martial skills is likely to be more effective for a given amount of time investment than pursuit of a Goddus seal.

We could also consider just constant tac move boosting with nobby's water. I'm almost certain we could beat them if we did that, but for how long? Unless we're allowed to level stealth, I doubt we'll manage it.

e: If we can Tac Move for long enough to hold them off, the patrols will eventually meet. What is the usual behaviour when two patrols meet in a situation like this?

There's the whole idea of working with civilians instead of only with ninjas. They have skills that ninjas don't have because ninjas spent all their time developing deadlier way to kill somebody.

AND they get the bodies back! Win-win! Although they now know that the same group who killed their patrol down in tea is fucking shit up in Hot Springs...

That means getting locked into combat with 2 groups of unknown skill level.
Does it? Like, if we throw them right this instant while Kei sets up flying sub targets, I'm not sure they'll get close enough to engage

Do a quick explosion burst before contact, they'll be deterred momentarily, we send clones one way and PMYF the other to break the trail.

We don't need to engage to do that, but that is an excellent idea. I was also thinking... what're the chances that Kei could get that one 100-chakra pangolin's help? We could also have Kei play distraction, take her summon scroll ourselves, and have Pandaa reverse summon her. Then she could go on summon quest. But, uh, that's a bad idea in her current frame of mind.

Yeah Kei being without teammates right now is dangerous, she might give into the temptation of her bloodline while in the summon realm and get executed.

And when the civilians get too prosperous from such a collaboration, and get the attention of a scorch squad, what then?

My point is that a hermit (or hermit + civilian village) strategy is likely to be far from the optimal one, even if we remove the Metaphysical Conflict Ball that is XP.

That said, for that reason, Kei is the best choice for 'sacrifice', because she wouldn't be one necessarily.

I can't help but think that perhaps turning the patrols against each other is our best option, but that will almost certainly cause diplomatic conflict if not outright war, which will piss Jiraiya off to no end.

e: Also: AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA why must we be subject to such things every weekend

I'm all ears if you have a plan for this, but I struggle to think how it won't be short-circuited as soon as the leaf patrol hears what the HS patrol is up to. Leaf helps enforce the DMZ, after all.

I'm just grateful the other Jonin isn't after us...

@eaglejarl @Velorien quick questions:
How many team-substitutions worth of PMYF-tagged kunai do we have on us collectively? Specifically, is it at least three?

Can we "mid-air" sub if we're pushing off something reasonable heavy, e.g a prepared sub target or dead body? If so, would clones be sufficient to do this with? (Even if they would pop immediately afterwards)

How far out does Hazou estimate the patrols are, in terms of contact time?

Keep in mind, going to meet leaf halfway means going deeper into fire. Do we want to go deeper into fire? Do we?

We don't need to engage to do that, but that is an excellent idea. I was also thinking... what're the chances that Kei could get that one 100-chakra pangolin's help?
She's explicitly forbidden from calling him. I fear that her spending all her chakra and not getting a response is one of least bad things that can happen.

Here's another concern for y'all's attention: we know HS team is operating under malus now. Anyone wants to bet on how long they will last?

Our best bet is to keep running. To do that we need to disengage from combat as soon as possible.

If it's at all possible, we should injure one of them to slow or tie them down.

Question: How does malus affect HS?

@Velorien To confirm, are they moving faster than us even with chakra boost?
Yes. They have access to chakra boost too.

Need to check with @eaglejarl.

Can we "mid-air" sub if we're pushing off something reasonable heavy, e.g a prepared sub target or dead body?
No. The Substitution Technique is not designed to integrate jumping of any sort.

How far out does Hazou estimate the patrols are, in terms of contact time?
Minutes in the future, but not many.

The effect of the malus was to make it harder for them to track you because of how successfully you had delayed them and covered your tracks. Now that they've identified your location and are catching up to you, it no longer applies.

According to this site we had something like a 71.5% chance of beating the HS ninjas' TM roll, and something like a 1.3% of doing as poorly as we did. Wtf, dice, is this cuz we were supposed to die last update but got around it due to my heroic sacrifice?

E:

Okay guys, before even MEW, THIS is the first thing we gotta technique hack.

Minutes in the future, but not many.
Oh goodness me, that's much better than I was expecting!
