Or look in the library, or at any notes Jiraiya left after the encounter, or ask Shikamaru...

A lot of places to look for intel tbh

Metal weak to freezing. Akane has 305 XP. Few months to fully level EM, give icing a golem a spin. Start Akane's summoner training early to keep the option open of using EM on Dragons.

Counterargument: Elemental Mastery, if used in such a way, causes massive collateral damage. I fear for the Great Seal.
Maybe learning stunts or summoning is not allowed until pyramid is fixed. Valid next steps to go Resolve 69, EM 40. EM 40 looks like it breaks the rules but is needed to support the next level of the pyramid after something is raised from the 40s to the 50s.

Or we could just ask Kei/Mari what they know about it.
Advance prediction: Neither of those two know anything

Advance prediction: None of those sources have anything/will admit to having anything. Shikamaru maybe if we agree to give him a cut.

What does this mean? Are you predicting that cold temperatures will kill a chakra golem? I don't agree. In addition, they can most certainly burrow. EM only effects the air, so any golem can just drop 10m underground and avoid the effects entirely. It's not a good weapon against them unless it's being used as a EM nuke. The effects of which are currently unknown.

Miracle engagement would be EM nuke into skyslicers after the metal is brittle. If it will burrow, underground skyslicers intercept. If it can be lured into prepared ground, not worried about burrowing.

Also, to everyone talking about the chakra golems: are we sure that they even exist? I kind of always assumed that Itachi was just screwing with us.

[X] Action Plan: Enemy of an innocent party that has a resource I want is my friend.

Send Panashe to attach a note to the well in the Lake People village. The note should have the overall intent of: we're not your enemies but we're looking for the Squirrelfolk, if you're willing to help us find them, go five miles east and find the (tree type) tree with a kunai in the trunk with a red handle, attach the information about where to find them there. (All details up to Hazopilot after optimizing/sanity checking with team, prepare correspondingly in advance).

Have Panashe watch the reaction in the village, don't go anywhere near the note location for two days, then send shadow clone to grab the note using Hiding Like A Mole to only ever be above ground for a second or two, disguise identity as Leaf ninja. Any indication it's a trap, disperse the clone and end plan.

Open the note in a safe location. If the note has actionable information like we expect, send Panashe to surveil on the ground and for team to observe using Skywalkers for two days. Not being caught is a priority over information gathering. If not actionable/useful information, return to ship.

After two days, unseal the three genin bodies in a location that we now know patrols will travel in within the next 30-60 minutes, then return to the ship. Leave Panashe to watch the recovery of the bodies and reactions.

We should have two days to return to the ship, use appropriate OPSEC and disguises when approaching and interacting with the ship and crew. Be on the lookout for ninja waiting to ambush upon approach/at the ship. Act disappointed, no gold. Ask about koi.

--------------
Edit: I will note that this is technically as many as six scenes: (1) Panashe leaving the note, (2) reaction of the note, (3) recovery of the response, (4) surveillance because of response, (5) leaving genin, (6) return to ship.

In my mind, 1 and 2 are one scene, or both are potentially summarized offscreen, 3 is almost certainly offscreen or summarized briefly, 4 and 5 are probably the main scenes, and the plan can end before 6 starts depending on how many scenes have actually happened at QM's discretion. 6 is mostly "and this is our intent for after surveilling, so any discussions about next steps will have this as Hazou's intent, and if the other scenes aren't interesting/substantive enough then do this scene." It can also potentially be offscreened.

I'm also anticipating that something will happen unexpectedly which will stop the plan before the end.

@Velorien, with 24 hours remaining in voting, do you have feelings about either of my plans? I'm happy to pull one down if you prefer the other. They both include substantial 'write what you want' components so asking seems like a good idea. Honey might require worldbuilding you don't want to do, heading straight back for Leaf might be boring, etc. etc.

(I realize that such thin plans incurs the risk of an eldritch incursion into our universe. I beg you grant me clemency and may the Sage have mercy on us.)
[X] Action Plan: Go Home
  • It's unlikely that we're going to find the Squirrel folk. Let's call it a day.
    • Ideally we can dispatch Noburi, Mari, and some other folks (Akane? Yuno?) in the near future to locate the Squirrel folk (maybe leaning on the People of the Lake?) and snatch the scroll.
  • Skywalk home unless there's a good reason to travel conventionally.
  • Velorien writes what he wants otherwise.
[X] Action Plan: Bumbling Around
Word count: <300
  • We've now collected some decent intelligence: we have better maps of the area than we used to and we found a little village.
  • We could probably keep grinding - try the abandoned camp scheme in another area, look for the island-in-a-lake - but it would be resource- and time-intensive.
    • Let's call it a day: we can return to Leaf and come back with a different team composition or more efficient approach.
  • That said, we promised Snowflake a Goketsu-style adventure. Let's swing by Honey and do some scouting of the areas Orochimaru mentioned.
    • We can do an in-depth search once Noburi's freed up. If there's any low-hanging fruit, grab it, but the main goal is to fill in any gaps in Orochimaru's notes. There's probably a lot of stuff he didn't write down because it was below his notice/not a threat to him.
      • Prioritize resources/areas that are unlikely to be guarded by ninja.
      • Be stingier with Skywalker use once we're in the area (opsec!) but travel there by air.
    • Once that's done (don't spend more than a few days) head back to Leaf for some R&R, planning, and (shudder) paperwork.
  • Note for the QMs:
    • This is a pretty vague plan but we don't know a lot about Orochimaru's notes. I'm deferring to HazoPilot and the team to fill in the details.
    • The goal is to gather enough information that we could plan a directed mission to Honey once we're back in Leaf.
    • I'm not expecting any had-fun XP as the plan is basically 'write what you want'.
@Sir Stompy, any reason you're voting for Bumbling Around and shrooms' plan, but not Go Home? The intention with Go Home was that it was nigh-identical to shrooms' plan, so if I've missed anything I'd like to pick it up.

Would rather we investigate Honey over not investigating Honey, and my plan probably isn't going to win anyway.

FWIW I am interested in returning the bodies. While it's a bit late in the game if you want to post a plan which focuses on taking another crack at finding the Squirrel Folk, I would potentially vote for it.

Sanity-check with the team & Mari/Noburi.
  • We've now collected some decent intelligence: we have better maps of the area than we used to and we found a little village.
  • We could probably do the same thing - try the abandoned camp scheme in another area, look for the island-in-a-lake - but it would be resource- and time-intensive.
    • At the same time, we still want to return the bodies of the dead Squirrel-folk.
    • Why not do both?
  • Let's use the returning-of-the-bodies, which we want to do regardless, as a way of locating the Squirrel-folk's home.
    • Return to the place where we fought the patrol. Be stealthy and stay alert - the area may be monitored.
    • Unseal and respectfully place the bodies in the area.
    • Let Panashe set up her blinds and hidey-holes, and help her set up a Silence Mine (or Banshee Slayers) in one of them, for her hearing.
    • Detonate a Banshee Fucker once Panashe is ready and we're out of the way.
  • Ideally, Squirrel-folk will be attracted to the battle, find the bodies, and take them, GTFO'ing back home in a way we can follow them.
    • If this doesn't work, Hazou makes the argument that we should return to Leaf and try again in the future.
    • That said, we promised Snowflake a Goketsu-style adventure. Let's swing by Honey and do some scouting of the areas Orochimaru mentioned.

Ah - the part that disqualifies this for me is that AFAIK we're still in the area where we ran into the not-patrol and I find it implausible that the Squirrel Folk are so close to the People of the Lake.

I also don't want to give the bodies over until we're fairly confident that they'll go to the right people.
