    • Congratulations on the success of AMITY. We'd like your help with another potential threat to Kei's well-being.
      • (Incidentally, it threatens all of existence.)
    • We visited Nagi Island to see if Pain's Machine was a 3D seal.
      • The Machine was gone, but the chakra...impression? Aura? wasn't.
      • We've only felt that level of chakra one other place - the Great Seal.
      • The Great Seal is cracking. We're working on it, but any insight into 3D sealing would be, mildly, useful.
      • How could we have a conversation with Ren about what she saw at the Battle of the Gods? The aura had weird interactions with our bloodline. We'd like to talk to someone who experienced/saw it first hand. The former Mizukage might know if parts of the Machine are stored somewhere, too.
    • How are conservative/traditional factions faring in Mist?
      • They seem like they'd be at odds with the AMI and probably pretty mad that they were outmaneuvered.
      • Let us know if we can be helpful - we're a polarizing figure with clan ties, and we'd be happy to cause some chaos over there.
        • In a Leaf-sanctioned-capacity: it'd be nice not to worry about committing treason.
      • We'd like to wiggle some bloodline training out of our former clan. We can see a few avenues of attack.
        • Hana has no love for establishment Kurosawa.
        • Hanzo's position is tenuous: he'd benefit from stronger Kurosawa-Goketsu ties.
        • Any suggestions? Does any of that conflict with what you're doing in Mist?
  • Offscreen:
    • Continue researching/decoding Minato's notes with Kagome.
    • Create/test MARS loadouts.
I don't love the currently-posted plans. Feedback is welcome. I'd like to include a section where I list some possible Ami-related failure modes and build in responses. If you can think of any of those, give me a shout.

Can you be more specific about which parts of this plan you feel constitute involving ourselves in international politics?

The closest thing I can find is making ourselves available to Ami. If she takes us up on this, we would definitely be involving ourselves in international politics, but with a Leaf-sanctioned handler who has a remarkable record of not getting in trouble for committing treason.

Everything else is discussions which would inform plans we later bring to Asuma. I can add a disclaimer to this effect, but I think it's probably a waste of wordcount.
 
don't feel too strongly about this discourse personally, but after a couple maintenance updates to get affairs in order and people debriefed it's Squirrel time imo

will likely be putting votes/plans that way in a week or two

Barring a Kaijuu, I'd be okay with that.

Edit: maybe learn Chakdar so we can have indepth data, and maybe we can track a Scroll's unique signature? Dog + chakdar seems like a good combo.

Part of what I want to do is add some contingencies to identify and minimize risk surfaces.

I broach a few topics. One is the Great Seal. She knows it exists, so no real harm done there. Asking about Ren open the possibility of Ami figuring out that the IN interacts with seals in some way. I've given Hazo what I feel is plausible cover there (the field did interact with our bloodline in weird ways and it makes sense that it would do the same with Ren's) but it could perhaps use some workshopping. Mentioning that Pain's Machine is likely a 3D seal doesn't raise alarm bells for me - Ami's probably figured that out. Asking how conservatives in Mist are doing, followed by a segue into 'hey, we want to try to get clan training, here are some angles we thought about' runs the risk of owing her a favour, but a) I can discuss this in the contingencies section and b) we already owe her deeply. Offering to be helpful in her Mist-related schemes is, if anything, a reasonable political move - if she could make use of us in Mist, she'd just ask Asuma for us, and there's no way she doesn't know that we represent a good opportunity.

Willingly interacting with Ami runs some definite risks - she could bring up any number of topics including SC training. That might be worth adding a line item about - for now, we can be pretty clear that she can get back to us when she has SC. If she does have SC, then I'd expect her to approach us. If this happens, I expect to be given the chance to respond with a full plan.

What am I missing?

We have access to enough scrolls that we might be able to create a sensor that filters out the Dog scroll's signature.

Hell, if we make this sensitive enough and filter out all of Leaf's scrolls, this is potentially a very useful piece of kit. 'This seal twitches if you're within a hundred meters of a non-Leaf Summoner' is a great warning system.

That sounds pretty cool honestly. Wonder if we can arrange the purchase of IN socials? Or maybe that can wait til we go back with ES 50 to make a better Great Seal replica, since apparently the ES 30 replica is pretty shoddy even with touch-ups from Hazou

Fair, but I kinda want to bring Kei if we can (maybe we can make a seal that filters both scrolls, but tbh just detecting Summon Scrolls at all sounds like it may be pretty tough). It would be nice to have at least one Summoner that can be refilled in the field. Plus there's bonding time for Snowflake, and it's a character(s) Vel likes writing, that way both QMs can enjoy the trip :)

I agree that conditions have changed since we made that promise. I think that we can come up with a reasonable list of demands (e.g., get Noburi and Kagome SC in ways which leave Goketsu's political standing and overall reputation improved or unsullied) if and when we decide to have that conversation.

Hey @eaglejarl and @Velorien, is there any way for Hazo/the playerbase to ballpark the difficulty of a Sealing project?

Specifically, I'm wondering how hard it would be to put together a seal that provides some sort of measurement of proximity to a Sealing Scroll, but with a blacklist (e.g., not detecting the Dog, Turtle, or Pangolin scroll). The angle of attack would be 'adapt Kagome's sensor seals'.

An answer which would satisfy me is 'that sounds like something that Hazo can't really assess until he learns Kagome's diagnostic seals - that will take [weeks/months]'. If you want to ask Kagome how hard it sounds, you'd need to write it into a plan'.

Might be worth discussing with Cannai himself again. He didn't want to force any Dogs do it, and he didn't like that we started asking for volunteers without his permission, but that doesn't mean there aren't any dogs that are willing to volunteer with his blessing. Cantelope and Cantilever seemed interested in the idea, for example. If we pitch it as like "hey do you want to stay in Italy for a year, also I'll escort you there" essentially, I feel there's decent odds we could find a handful of interested Dogs. If Pangolins can reach Dog, then vice versa should be doable.

      • We need adoption tickets: this helps buy them.
      • The war's over, civilian welfare's a priority - these skills will be in demand.

What I've crossed out was written and can be removed to save wordcount.

I think that making it clear what we want to sanity-check with Mari (telling Asuma? Asking if we can study Naruto?) would be wise. Moreover, I think that the person to request permission to study the seal from is Naruto himself, and I think that this request should come with a great reason this is a sensible idea. (I can't think of one.) If we can think of one, then specifically asking Mari to optimize getting permission is smart.

For the sappy bit, I'd suggest...
  • Share Minato's notes and poetry with Naruto.
    • Explain that's research notes mixed in.
  • We imagine he's already read them.
