[X] Action Plan: Dotting Ts and Crossing Is
Length: 1 day :(
Word count: TBD
  • Naruto, we'll need to check some things to verify if it's real. Do you want to join us or hear the results?
    • Include Naruto if yes.
  • Meet Uplift under max OpSec.
    • Use the good anti-hyuuga seals.
    • Share everything from our vision. Answer questions truthfully.
    • Kagome told me that you lose memories over time in Naraka. I think he is right.
      • Akane, Noburi, and Naruto should gather every story about Jiraiya possible.
    • Ask Noburi if he thinks he can make a temporary contract with Ma and/or Pa. The clan's coffers are open if need be.
      • How would they feel about saving Jirayia?
    • Explain Hazō's concern at this information getting out.
      • AMITY failing due to other nations' fear.
      • Harm coming to the Goketsu as others try to kidnap/subvert/kill us.
      • Conflict with religious ideology.
    • Nevertheless, we will rescue Jiraiya. It will be done carefully.
    • If Naruto is present:
      • We have tests that we need to run on the rift.
      • We may need someone to help keep us safe. Can we count on you?
    • Kagome, would it be helpful to have Sasuke and a Hyuuga?
      • If yes, have Mari, Naruto, and Noburi work on securing their aid.
    • We will be heading out as soon as Asuma authorizes it.
      • The Leaf delegation has been gone longer than during our Exam. Do we know when they're expected back?
      • How much do we tell Asuma?
        • Asuma knows most details already.
        • Only vision is left to disclose.
    • Thank everyone for helping us get this far.
  • If Noburi is able to contract Ma and/or Pa, schedule a time to summon them.
    • Max Opsec. Mari and Noburi sanity check.
    • Tell them as much as appropriate.
    • Ask for their help.
  • Offscreen
    • Inform Naruto of findings.
    • 4x SC read Sealing Notes.
    • SC Prep for MARS attempt.

It's certainly a way forward. I'd prefer verifying the vision before telling Naruto what we saw, and I know some people want to keep him out of the loop (I think that's a bad move, btw — by including him we bring an S-ranker onto the project and start mending bridges with him), but having him there when we ask Ma and Pa about it adds credibility to our story.

I personally don't see why we should tell Asuma. He doesn't have any specialty to help the project and I don't think he has any resources that are helpful either.

Working with Asuma means we have freer reign to pursue the project rather than be forced to focus on something else that Asuma thinks is important.

Interesting that Naruto doesn't have an aura. I guess that kinda confirms that prime isn't a jonin by himself, even if the clones altogether are a major threat.

I would like to note that Naruto is immune to another S-ranker aura, so it could be something more complicated than simply a lack of stats. Maybe it's age? If it was "Resolve multiplied by Chakra" then Naruto shouldn't have any problem with that, as he has a lot of Chakra, unless he lacks the Resolve part. It's an interesting question.

He may not actually do foom, or his variation of, that much. It was brought before that naruto's stats can be somewhat low.

For telling Asuma, it's more about not committing treason. Naruto already knows about it, so Asuma will find out regardless. But if we tell him ourselves we can do so in a way that sounds less like "I'll tell Orochimaru to seek a higher position," and more like "Wouldn't you like to see your dead loved ones again?"

Let's not bring back reactionary religious leaders who could lie about what actually happened in the afterlife's and use that to further entrench their shitty believes until we have the situation well in hand
Thaaaaaat's a really good point.

Alternatively, it's because Naruto's a jinchuriki and therefore can't 'be himself' if he is also 'not himself'.

Give me necromancy, or give me death...
And then necromancy.

By the way, loathe as I am to consider the possibility, what are your thoughts on Naruto's priorities regarding AMITY/Ami vs possibly getting Jiraiya back? Because if he believes our worries are a credible threat, he will have to measure those against each other.
Normally, I wouldn't even think twice and say "Team Dad, duh.", but we all know Ami.

Due to the number of clones Naruto can make and/or pop at once, I wouldn't assume his resolve is low... Frankly I'm holding to Jiraiya's words and the "compressing lots of you, chipping at it reveals a single 'I am' core, be very messed up a lot" part of the theory - how often was Naruto really hurt? He's been through hell with the Akatsuki, but it looks like up until then he was more prepared and groomed to lead, and is strong mostly through ridonkulous shadow clone training, people bending over backwards to teach him secrets, and QB synergy rather than anything along the lines of "wading through rivers of blood". Sure, he was super powerful and thus led to high-profile missions, but when you count as S-rank and can spam shadow clones to tank whatever's coming at you (except genjutsu blasts) it's not like these are dangerous, just secret and well-paid. If it takes "breaking you" to make that kind of being, he was probably only broken once and then he dissociated through most of it (I somehow don't think his jōnin aura should feel like a weird person speaking in simple sentences, not understanding questions well, and rebooting).

Yep considering that jiraya did not want any of their kids to achieve jouninhood its likely intentionally traumatizing the children is an itachi thing more than a konoha thing.

It's also been heavily implied by Naruto, himself, that he tried to use the Shadow Clone Jutsu to manually alter his own consciousness/personality, and that he had to be stitched back together by Hiruzen and several of Leaf's jonin/S-rankers.

It might be that whatever damage Naruto did to himself is hampering his ability to emit an Aura.

[Edit: as in, if Jonin Aura is the expression of your core philosophical/personal "essence," and Naruto stapled a lot of contradictory/excess/conflicting traits to his soul via his alluded Shadow Clone Direction Mistake, then Naruto may not be as capable of expressing his Aura as his stats may otherwise lead us to believe]

But, as I've said before, Naruto is a unique case several times over (Jinchuuriki, Minato's Best Bijuu Seal, personal training of Leaf's Finest, Inheritance of Minato and Kushina's Big Book of Secrets, and who knows what else), so it could be almost anything.

Naruto under our highest OpSec conditions.
will vote for this if we remove telling Naruto right away. I'm not inherently opposed to telling him but want to make sure everyone agrees that it's a good and safe idea.
  • If everyone generally agrees, contact Asuma and tell/ask him what we decide.
Def think this should be a decision that we vote on and discuss after the update instead of jumping into it but less of a deal breaker since there is atleast a check on it

What do you think we could tell him that he doesn't already know? He's read the classified reports, he knows where the rift is, and his buddy Sasuke can pinpoint it for him.

H: "Help me try to contact J!"
N: "I can't, but I'll watch."
Stuff happens.
N: "Did it work?"
H: ".....okay bye!"

Its an odd way to respond to Naruto finally interacting with us in any sort of a positive way. He doesn't trust us, and trying to keep this from him won't turn out well. We threw our lot in with him when the last plan was voted in.

Like I said I just want to go a little slower with spreading the information that we are actively working on necromancy. We have a pretty strong result and Naruto might go to other people. That could lead to us losing control of the project. I'm not opposed to bringing him in after we talk it over with the Team and they agree that it's a good idea. I just want us to be careful first.

Naruto knows everything except whether or not the attempt was successful. If it had failed, we would have just told him. Not telling him anything is the same as saying that it worked, only he'll be upset that we're seemingly trying to cut him out of the process after is going to him for help. There is no benefit to keeping this from him and actual risk if we do keep it from him. What's to stop him from going "Well fuck this guy. Came to me for help and refuses to tell me. I'll just go to Asuma tell him what's up."

I am so happy that the vision had the best kind of information for this job:
1) Previously unknown to us, so it can't be a hallucination given 2.
2) Verifiable/falsifiable, in a process that includes other people. (Ma and Pa) plus, those other people happen to be the effective adoptive parents of the man we want to save, plus they are essentially S-ranked both capability and lore-wise.
What a (probable) gold mine.

I don't remember what aura he resisted that you're talking about, but I think we already knew there was something funky going on with his resolve, due to the quantity of clones he can manifest. Seems like he can offload some mental stress to Kurama or something. I guess that doesn't translate to having an aura.

Ma and Pa verifying this will be a scene all its own, and I think that EJ writing it would be smart. I'd like to talk to Noburi and Mari about this (Kei is an unnecessary risk vector right now - she's too close to the Nara and Thinkers) and get some feedback from them because they can point out the things we're trivially missing, if any, and plan the approach with Ma and Pa.

I'd also like to talk to Akane, Sagedammit. We're busy but I refuse to be too busy for our girlfriend.

[X] Action Plan: Moving Slowly
Word count: 299
  • Post-ritual:
    • We saw something. We aren't sure if it was real. We need to verify it.
    • Naruto:
      • If he wants, share what we saw.
      • Thank him sincerely for helping.
      • Extend an open invitation to the compound.
    • Please keep this quiet.
  • Back home:
    • Discuss after dinner, high OPSEC.
      • Noburi, Mari, Naruto (invite him) only.
      • Discuss Kagome's afterlife theories.
      • Noburi, could Ma and Pa to verify our vision?
        • Should we do that now?
        • Can you arrange one-time contracts to have them confirm this for others?
        • Defer to Noburi's judgement.
      • What are the social/political risks?
        • How do we defend against accusations that we're making this up?
        • How do we prevent this falling into the wrong hands or spinning out of control?
        • What aren't we considering?
        • What do we need to do right now?
        • If this is real, it's huge, and we only get one chance not to screw it up. Is there anyone else who needs to know at this moment? (Kagome?) If not, tell no one else (right now).
  • Akane
    • Do something (non-violent, enjoyable) together.
    • Tone: gently encouraging Akane to talk to us so we can better understand/support her.
      • Stop talking about this at the first sign it's going badly. Pay attention. Do not argue/debate/fix/speechify.
    • How are you doing? How are you feeling?
    • You've been one of our biggest anchors for a long time. It seems like you've lost yours.
      • What are your other anchors?
    • What makes life worthwhile for you?
      • Ignore realism. What do you want to do?
    • It's okay to have no/vague answers.
    • We love and believe in you. Whatever it takes, we want to help.
    • Perform some cheesy-but-innocuous courtship rituals (heart-shaped chocolates, reciting love poetry).
  • Offscreen:
    • Continue MARS prep - clones reading sealing notes.
    • Ami-style training: learn every Leaf jonin's favourite colour.
