I was smiling the whole time, what a ride

The beat of the song I was listening to dropped just as Orochimaru summoned Manda too, that was pretty funny

Each of your scrolls has different seals so how was I to know that that one was a fake?"
they read the scrolls no problem, i find it funny that Hazou is the only person who has the interest in the subject of summoning scrolls while having adequate expertise to decipher then and yet is one of the few who would get killed if he tried looking at them.

Let's loot the bodies of this sealing research lab for examples of Rock's sealwork. Maybe leave Manda or a few of the Summons here to go apeshit when reinforcements arrive. Definitely no sealwork traps, just in case Rock disarms them and reverse-engineers them to their benefit.

A smashing success! Not only did we destroy the facility and kill a bunch of enemy ninja, not only did we get the Arachnid Scroll out of the deal, but we also seem to have gotten a bunch of intel! That's very important because our previous intel situation was 'heck if I know, all the records are destroyed' and now Shikamaru has actual stuff to work with.

Now, in light of the thriving debate last cycle about what to do about the Arachnid Scroll, I agree with the sentiment that we should take the options we've come up with and talk them over with (at least) Mari and Kagome. Mari to make sure we understand the political ramifications of each option, and Kagome because his opinion is important for this. To my understanding, the options are as follows:
  • Do nothing and keep the Arachnid Scroll.
    • Pass it from Kagome to Akane once Kagome gets exiled?
  • Offer to return the Scroll once the Dragonwar is over, allowing Asuma to frame it as a loan.
  • Offer to return the Scroll once Kagome dies, allowing Asuma to frame it as a loan.
  • Offer to return the Scroll, then if and when we find another Scroll we offer that one to Asuma instead, allowing us to keep the Arachnids.
Am I missing anything? This is an important decision so it's best if we cover all the bases.

I would add "Offer something else in exchange of the Scroll, so that Asuma gives it to us/Ignores the clans whining" that can be applied on every bullet point. The thing we would offer would, of course, would be seals.
Another possibility is "Offer the Scroll to an ally once the Dragonwar is over, showing patriotism and keeping Ino, for example, well protected from a sudden case of death"

i want to use Hazou's earth-shaping jutsu to find out just how rock wards against tunneling. if they infuse rock whit chakra permanently to prevent foreign chakra from entering it, that could mean that we can infuse stone whit his chakra for Noburi to drain later, or to reshape at will.
also, bonury could counter them hard whit is vampiric dew.

I think that we can and should combine the last point with all the other points. It's a strict win for Asuma - the village gets one Summoner with experience and one new Summoner, instead of two new Summoners.

Point of order: why would Kagome get divorced? He isn't in any romantic relationships that we know of. Maybe the Queen doesn't want to stay married to him and maybe he doesn't want to be married to a Spider but there doesn't seem to be strong reason for them to get divorced. Heck, he'd actually have to find someone to spend the night with to get divorced.

Plus I think kagome would actually fit well into a platonic relationship with her Ladyship the Webby. They seem to have similar mindsets about family and traps. She leans towards silk and him explosives, but they can work that out

Kagome has the traditional scary Boss meeting like everyone else gets but with Hazou in the corner giving him a thumbs up
Even better, Kagome get's to meet his apprentice's/adopted nephew's first ex-wife.

Explosive silk when?

"Bad luck you stinkers! I wore my explosion pants today!"

That Kagome isn't the only option? Yeah he is probably the second best Sealmaster, but, there is a Hyuuga sealmaster:

"Oh, shut up Bunta," said a Hyūga. "It was a trash methodology and you know it. All you needed was a Sogabe Slide."

They can easily claim that a lot of Hyuuga died because of Rock, a Hyuuga sealmaster could study the Great Seal way better, different and in more detail than anyone else and also that with out a Hyuuga the scroll would have never been found.

The only other guy who is probably a candidate for the scroll is Kabuto, who was choosen to have the Snake Scroll by Hiashi. But he and Oro haven't shown interest in the Dog Scroll at least.

So we should remind everyone that you have to marry the Spider Empress if you want to see the Great Seal. But that really only matters for now.

The political problem is simply that most clans don't want us to hoard the scrolls and that we don't really use them for fighting much (Well Keiko does fighting). On the other hand:

  • We used them for communication and with more friendly clans that just gets easier. (The Hyuuga/Minami was kind of an issue for the trade network, might also be worth mentioning, the Summoning clans really like the whole interdimensional trading part)
  • Keiko was involved in multiple big Operations now, if we go back to the Sunset Racer.
  • Hazou found a big mysterious seal, the actual location of another scroll, helped solve a food problem and maybe the Bears also tell us something.
  • And Noburi is kind of obviously helpful (but that doesn't matter for the Arachnid Scroll assigment).
Even better, Kagome get's to meet his apprentice/adopted nephew's first ex-wife.

You mean they are married to the same wife, at the same time, sleeping in a gigantic (silk) bed with her.

[X] Asumas birthday plan (for whenever it is)
Get him some boring but respectable gift plus a box or two of seals as a gift to our Hokage
Get some of the Good Stuff they smoked in 7th path Bear through Dog contacts as a gift to the guy who showed us around Leaf for the first time

Time to search for the Scroll. Given the protections around it, this is a Legendary challenge (TN: ~80).
As a Goketsu solo mission I don't think we ever would have found the scroll, so I'm very glad we didn't go alone.

Author's Note: This update covered 13 days, most of the time spent on finding summon contracts and getting a representative to travel to Pangolin territory in order to be colocated with Noburi.
Train willing Arachnids in seal operation for anti-Dragon measures.
So Hazou had 13 days of basically twiddling his thumbs, did he manage to get a bunch of Arachnids trained up on seal operation?
