Your opinion on the matter seems to be "We will not teach him the things until after he is formally adopted" yes?

I would accept teaching him the things now and then withholding from filing the paperwork until the war kicks off, if thats what you're saying.
The latter.

If we're going to be in a life and death battle, then I am willing to consider all options.

I'm down for teaching naruto pangolin, whether via
How about we just adopt him, informally or otherwise do it outside the Leaf legal system?
or by making a new deal with the pangolins, or some other reasonable plan
what it means to be a clan on the human path or anything
They know about missing-nin so they might know about clans. And considering their military hierarchy they might care that Leaf doesn't formally recognize Naruto as part of the clan

We might want to consider making a deal with the pangolins if at all possible. We know that Akane was taught first before anyone else.

Spies transmitting information is slow. They run only at ninja speed at best, not light.
So at best the comparative advantage is "The spies get us the info hours or a day or two before the actual attack hits.", I think?

The latter.

Both Naruto and Keiko (and potentially Noburi depending on if the war is a "three months from now" thing now) are likely to be on the front lines. The war itself is all but a given, modulo us pulling off a literal miracle. I think it unwise to not secure our investment in these individuals either out of principle or based on a series of not-terribly-likely independent events transpiring in such a way that it leaves Hazou or Noburi unilaterally banned from the 7th Path or something.

So, now that its been made clear that Naruto won't be joining the clan immediately, can we take him aside and teach him the top secret Pangolin jutsu on the off chance that he needs it to win a war in the next couple months, instead of being overly scrupulous about "honor" and "promises" for no reason in a situation where the other party is likely to never find out about this event (and in a situation where their opinions probably don't matter much anyway)?
*sigh*

I suppose so. I would really prefer to not compromise our integrity, though — integrity is what gives us the ability to pull cool stuff like the 100-SIN idea, or that preferential weapons-dealing Seventh Path pacification plan we were considering. We've brought up selling them noncombat seals a few chapters ago — let's see if we can honestly negotiate teaching Naruto the jutsu. If no, let's go with some of these suspect "unofficial adoption" plans.

This is fairly optimistic. I'm guessing Rock's top leadership will get all its plans in order, negotiate the Grass corridor in utmost secrecy, then abruptly order its senior ninja to move to attack, with a few hours to prepare at most. Spies will need to immediately go missing-nin, and even then they'll outpace the invasion only by however long Rock's jounin will need to prepare. My realistically optimistic estimate is five hours.

One will wonder why we didn't even think to negotiate.

Too late: he doesn't have enough time to train them to frightening levels.

I find your stance on this pretty unmoveable. I'll just put you down as "Literally incapable of being persuaded" as far as this point goes then.

How about we just adopt him, informally or otherwise do it outside the Leaf legal system? Its not like the Pangolins have a grand knowledge of Leaf laws and what it means to be a clan on the human path or anything, nor was this some legal definition agreed upon between our two parties or anything.
I would be fine with it as long as we have Keiko's blessing, the pangolin's concept of clan seems off compared to ours so my main concern is asking her so that she knows ahead of time rather than just tell Naruto secrets that aren't ours to tell. That was always my main concern.

If you have ideas feel free to share them. I'm down for negotiation. Without fast long-distance communication it's a bit hard. It currently involves sending someone as a diplomat over there and we are currently short on people. I suppose we could send a naruto shadow clone but...eh

Yep, reactions of our clan to the idea of working with Oro were roughly as expected. A bit surprised Noburi was so vehemently against, given that he was willing to consider the idea of human experimentation for the greater good in the past. Guess the skin farm really spooked him.

You are receiving visions of what may be the future, or communications from an external agent

Sooo, is there any chance of a player-written vision being canonized, either as a separate Omake, or inserted into an existing chapter? Sounds like a fun thing to write, and you'd have ultimate veto power if we try to abuse this for direct information transfer. Pinging @Velorien and @OliWhail as well.

Agreed, Noburi's reaction was NOT according to expectations.
I'm guessing seeing Orochimaru KI Hazou after a five-minute conversation also played a part. Perhaps he'd previously considered the dilemma in terms of "Orochimaru will be experimenting on people, am I willing to collaborate with someone like this?", and this prompted the realization that Oro will see us as potential experiment fodder too.

Also, side note: Did Keiko not know how IN seal-copy works? She was present when Hazou read the Pangolin Summoning Scroll.

She does but she might have just assumed it was a failure and Hazo didn't actually get anything from the scroll, or at least hoped so. It has been a while since so then.

IIRC, we actually tried to digest some of the eldritch spooky knowledge to get Summoning Scroll Acolyte instead of drinking ourself into unconsciousness to try and forget and or not poking the eldritch terrormemories with a stick.

I'm fine with teaching Naruto pangolin jutsu asap, but I definitely want to take an approach that doesn't destroy any trust the pangolins still have for us.

Oh my god, are we going to start getting *omake bonuses*?? Awesome! I'm way more likely to write if it means Hazuo punches(seals) harder :p

On the subject of peace, is there anything we could do more to prolong peace or prevent the outbreak of war? Maybe send a diplomatic corp to Grass?
