Alright Grue, let's dance.

[x] Action Plan: Forbidden Lore Time with Uncle Kagome
  • "Hey Kagome, I just had some weird deja vu/amnesia experiences."
    • "I wasn't doing sealing at the time, so it probably wasn't that"
    • "Is there anything you think may have caused it?"
    • "For that matter, is there anything else weird going on that you know of?"
  • RESERVED FOR ADDITIONAL "FORBIDDEN LORE" TYPE QUESTIONS FOR KAGOME, PING ME

Hedge our bets: if it's caused by a psychological issue we need to see the Yamanaka and if we can't fully trust Mari due to her issues and it's genjutsu (or some other mental ninja technique)... then we still need to see the Yamanaka.

(In hindsight, I really should have pushed for the Ino seduction route harder but maybe we can get back to it after we're no longer insane)

EDIT: Of course, the first step should be DISPEL DISPEL DISPEL, but that should be somewhat obvious for Hazou IC

I've just been reading the updates lately but this chapter seems really odd.

Were there some... interesting... discussions I missed about disguise kits that would make this update make more sense?

Henge got erased from the world. We where trying to make Hazō realize it to sell to Ami for another favor

Now, now, as far as cognitohazards go, this one is fairly benign. It just doesn't want you to think about it, maybe it's shy? If we just keep pushing this angle, what's the worst that can possibly happen?

[] Action Plan: Seduce the Grue

Keep thinking about your old disguise kit

You've wasted so much time! Where did the time go? Oh well, it was probably spent doing something very enjoyable.

At least you're left with a warm fuzzy feeling inside, that's cute.

Well, procrastinating thinking about your old disguise kit was really fun. You should put it off more sometime. On to business...

Henge technique has been destroyed and only Kagome remembers the version of reality in which it used to exist. Everyone thinks they used to disguise themselves with kits, but since they didn't those kits don't exist.

Also, Mari seems to be doing alarmingly well. This line:

— seems more horrifying to me than the Grue segment.
This is the bit that worries me more:

"Sometimes, you had to spend money to make money. (Also, lie, cheat, and manipulate. Fortunately, that didn't matter anymore.)"

She's not doing well at all; she just compartmentalized all her concerns away until they come back and bite her (and by extension us) in the ass in a giant way later.

The henge technique was eaten by a sealing failure(?) and this is the result.

...?

This only raises more questions!?!

I should probably go back a few pages and read the discussions. This sounds amazing. And horrifying.

Edit: Did this happen in a actual update and I missed it or did this happen off screen in a random post somewhere?

FYI: This has been a thing since right after the Fourth Event of the Chunin Exams.

You'll notice folks don't use Henge anymore after that and refer to "disguise kits" a whole bunch.

In one of the Kagome's Journal Entires Interludes, he mentions how Henge is gone now.

I would like to note that this means Hazou's "aberrant personality matrix" is capable of retaining knowledge that his conscious mind cannot.

Hazou is capable of having repeated deja-vu because we exist.

That's a fucking scary result.

Oh yes.

This was a horrifyingly fun update that tickled all sorts of areas. Thanks EJ <3

Update (does not include asking Yamanaka because we don't want an ally to think we had a psychotic break right now).

Alright Grue, let's dance.

  • "Wait. Deja vu? Sudden spell of wandering thoughts? Memory loss?! DISPEL!"
  • "Did I just get hit with an esoteric mental effect?!"
    • Find Mari and Kagome-sensei. Now.
  • "Kagome-sensei, I just had some weird deja vu/amnesia experiences."
    • "I wasn't doing sealing at the time, so it probably wasn't that, but I can't be sure."
    • "Is there anything you think may have caused it?"
    • "For that matter, is there anything else weird going on that you know of?"

I've seen the retcon joke explanation, but my mind instantly leapt to Itachi. Because of course anyone working for world peace would want to influence the Kage elections, and of course he could walk into Konoha at will at this point, and of course anything Mari knows how to he must as well but better, but the memory-wipe interrogation never came.

That's the actual explanation though ?

Yeah, I meant to acknowledge that by saying I saw the explanation sorry if that was unclear, but once I had the thought that some of the surviving Akatsuki might be looking to, and able to, subtly influence the Kage elections for candidates they prefer or want to avoid the general thought seemed worth mentioning. I'm not saying that's what happened, because Hazou was just focusing on the disguise kit and not having a dozen different conversations with Itachi that restart to the same point but slowly develop into a version where Hazou reveals useful intel and then forgets it ever happened.

We're still waiting on the other Keiko scenes and infoposts, so this plan isn't as fleshed out as it would be otherwise.

[] Action Plan: Building Bridges, Breaking Barriers

Word Count: 210
  • Last-night aftermath:
    • Talk to Keiko. Reaffirm you're still family.
      • CCnJ: You won't ask her to change her decision, but you both could've handled that better. Hazou should've paid more attention to her mental state, and shouldn't have tried to override her after she made her decision clear. Keiko shouldn't have presented us with an ultimatum; she should've trusted us enough to bring it up in advance, to work with us on it.
      • Hazou can offer to order Keiko to end the deal, which could salvage Keiko's relationship with the Pangolins.
    • Talk to Mari. Admit your mistake in trying to override Keiko. Reaffirm your full responsibility over any actions she takes to protect the clan.
      • "Clan" includes her: her well-being matters. She shouldn't take actions which would damage her self-image even further, shouldn't cross new lines.
  • Get intel on the Hagoromo's debts.
    • Did Jiraiya have notes on local clan politics?
    • Naruto seemed to be pretty knowledgeable, maybe ask him?
    • Go talk to Leaf goldsmiths/other knowledgeable people.
      • Disguise ourselves as someone more-well respected.
        • Someone (*cough*Shin*cough*) got our kit destroyed. Enlist Kagome's aid into making a new one.
  • Misc.:
    • Review Jiraiya's notes on Seventh Path politics/local underworld.
    • Enlist Mari's assistance in sending mourning bouquets to families of the fallen.

We should ask the Mist Yakuza for all the cash we need in exchange for letting them take over Leafs underworld
