This is minor but important, I think. We should really have some sort of slim hard cases for keeping seals in that we won't need really quickly in combat to protect them from stuff. It'd really suck to lose important things to storage seal failure.

It'd be nice if we could design a fast access hard case for combat stuff but that's optional.

Put together an outline will be updating based on discussion

[X] Action plan: Training from Hell

  • Jiraiya
    • Give hima copy of every seal we've seen.
    • Tell him about Shadow clone proposal
    • Find out what our training schedule will be like
  • Check on seal license
  • Research casino seals
  • Game night
    • Prepare to have a game night for the end of the week
    • Invite Team Gai and other clanless ninja
  • Train with Team Gai.
    • Socialize
    • Check in on Neji
      • Good cop bad cop with Hazō and Kei
    • Gai-sensei runs us ragged, in the name of YOUTH!
  • Evening/Dinner: Pangolins
    • Try to get Jiraiya on board
    • Primary goal: avoid genocide and slavery
    • Secondary goal: slow them down
    • Expansionist tendencies are an issue
      • They are anathema to our ideals, and why we joined Leaf
      • They are encouraging organized backlash
    • OPSEC issues around Skytowers
    • Politically destabilizing
    • Analyse the situation
      • Is this likely one or two zealots in Pangolin High Command?
      • How much of this is Pantsaa?
    • Is this normal? Toads' opinion would help.
  • Solutions
    • Political influence from Toads?
    • Bargain with skytower supply?
    • Direct influence from Keiko as a prominent figure?

Also, I liked the use of the compel there. A perfect chance for Hazou to say the wrong thing at the worst time and botch everything up, but he resists the urge and we instead get to clearly explain to Keiko that, for once in our lives, we really are going to be able to advance our ideal of Uplift. Excellent use of a Fate Point.

[X] Straight to the Point

Wordcount: 378.
  • Wait for opportune time to discuss Pangolins with Keiko, when she is ready to do so. Ask the rest of the clan to be present. Goal: End the Pangolin conquest as soon as we are able.
    • Keiko is right to be concerned with the Pangolins' expansionism and is correct that it is at odds with our philosophy. Her description was worse than we imagined.
      • Even if that were not the case, surely the Pangolins making a mess of the seventh path is cause enough for concern. (Addressing Jiraiya, anticipating lack of interest)
    • Keiko is also right: we need to stop digging. We are in a better position now and don't have to rely on bloodmoney.
    • She is wrong however that we are not responsible for this. Even if their war was inevitable, the trade for Skytowers was Hazou's idea. We gave them far more power than they would otherwise have and made it far worse as a consequence.
    • We might not be able to reverse or fix this, but we can at least mitigate against future invasions. We have far more leverage than they're willing to admit.
      • Dependence on Skytower seals.
      • Keiko is a hero.
      • Jiraiya and/or Toads could possibly apply pressure in negotiations.
    • Suggest:
      • We can use leverage to negotiate an immediate cessation to their conquests before they move on another clan. Keiko maintains current Tessera; no more Skytowers if they invade another clan.
      • If necessary:
        • We can work with the Pangolins, figure out what their true motivations are, and help them get what they want through means other than genocide and slavery.
        • We can get money from another source (sealing is lucrative if licensed, otherwise we will manage).
    • Offer emotional support to Keiko as needed and sincerely thank her for bringing this to our attention.
  • Catch up with Hana when she arrives
    • About Mari and how we've come to view her as family. We understand Hana's frustration, and don't ask that she also forgive Mari, just to give her a chance.
    • About what Akane said and how he feels about it

  • TRAIN. HARD.
    • Ask Jiraiya for advice and recommendations.
    • Note: Could use work here.

While we're talking to Pangolins, I'm still really interested in that Seventh Path university. There's probably a wealth of resources there that might be accessible now.

Things necessary for me to vote:
  • Discussion with Kei about the Pangolins
  • Discussion about Shadow Clone farm (@eaglejarl Is this necessary to put in a plan given your a/n at the end?)
  • Training from Hell, Casino Seals
Things I'd like, to vote:
  • Discuss it with Keiko in private first; ask if she'd like to discuss it with Hazou himself before bringing it up to Mari/Kagome/Jiraiya, or if she'd rather do it all at once.

Remind me what Forged in Fire does mechanically? I dont really grok how TYS points work so this would be good.

Asking because it may be beneficial to sink 20 XP in for that...

I will not be maintaining my plan, but encourage others to steal and cannibalize from it.

I will vote only for plans which take concrete action towards ending the Pangolin conquest.

You know, I think I really wouldn't mind if the rest of the quest was about Great Teacher Kagome, with the rest of the clan only making appearances as side characters.

[X] Action plan: A talk with Jiraiya
  • Jiraiya
    • Tell him about Shadow clone proposal.
    • Tell to him about Truck scroll proposal.
    • Tell him about the Pangolin situation and ask what to do about it -> can we stop giving Sky-towers soon?
    • Give him a copy of every seal we've seen for when (if) he has time
  • Check on seal license
  • Research casino seals
  • Hana
    • When she arrives have the conversation about Akane
    • Talk about uplift philosophy
    • Would she be interested in learning sealing to help?
  • Kei
    • Let her know Hazō is deeply upset by her revelations
    • Suggest she try to do some research into Pangolin's politics to determine where to push and tell her the (hopefully useful) things Jiraiya said
  • Training From Hell - Edit in details?
    • Train with Gai
      • Ask for any tips/tricks for closing quickly with opponents
    • Look for chunnin who we can spar with

I mean, not that there's really any torture—not effective—but that's the name. Scares the targets, makes it easier to read them.

Neat, confirmation that T&I doesn't do torture as general practice.

What else isn't as bad as it sounds? Maybe scorch squads just roam the countries, convincing would-be ninjas to give up studying magic with marshmallows.

Or maybe Jiraiya lied about the torture? I mean, based on what Jiraiya said about the Chasu clan members after the Sunset Racer incident...
"There's that idealism again," Jiraiya sighed. "We need every ounce of information those girls have and that means T&I will be working overtime on them. They're not going to be of any use to anyone once it's over, and we couldn't trust them even if they were."
Well. I don't think Team Bloodrage is going to be functional after T&I finishes with them.

We should see if we can get Ino to work on a clan technique to get rid of someone's memories over a duration of time entirely.

Well if you look at the backdrop to the two conversations, in which one was Jiraiya in a fit state to be telling lies and in which one was he suffering such negative CMs to his Deception that for once, even Hazou could probably see through it?

We already have a jutsu that does that. Truth Lost in the Fog. But it costs happy memories or something? Also, Mari is retired.

EDIT: She might be able to teach it to someone. It seems Genjutsu based, maybe an Uchiha?

"Yes, and pointy on five ends," Hazō grumbled. "I'm going to need a new jacket, and she shredded half of my remaining storage seals." He reviewed the damaged papers mournfully. "Just lucky they didn't do anything weird when they failed, but looks like I'm not getting the good pots and pans back."

We BETTER keep those damn broken storage scrolls. When we get around to hacking at storage scroll pointer mechanics they will be a nice test case.

Just keep them at home though, no need to take them with us.

No! Well, yes, I suppose, although I wouldn't put it like that. Amenable to my ideals, I'd say. I mean, if we really want to pull off this uplift idea then we need to get other people onboard or it will never go anywhere. But mostly I just wanted to help.

We should start an uplift focused cult...

Hazō is Compelled: Open Mouth, Insert Foot!
Compel refused! -1 Fate Point

Yes, love this use of a fate point

"And bring cookies to all his study sessions with you," Hazō suggested.

Kagome-sensei's cackling and eager rubbing of hands suggested that he approved of this plan.

Yay

Aoi smiled warmly. The man was such a dear. Manners obviously came hard to him—not surprising, given that he'd grown up in a place as uncivilized as Mist—but he tried so hard and was so earnest.

D'aww, also unsubtle racism/propaganda

Thought same, yey. His drugged up, elated state of mind plus being in a family of people he mostly trusted gave me the impression that he's uninhibited enough to be truthful.

He seemed very much like he's barely keeping from babbling everything out, damn the OPSECs.

How about that truth serum stimulant, huh.

iirc Keiko observed that Choji's clan might have a method of observing physical movement, like Nara mental and Yamanaka's social?

When your drugged is a great time to plant misinformation. People underestimate you and believe that you'll let anything slip. It's harder to hold you responsible for lies. If Jiraya's worth his salt as a spymaster he'll know this.

Edit: I lean towards him telling the truth simply because I don't think there is a lot of reason for him to be telling misinformation. It's not like there is a lot of vectors for information to spread with Kieko and Mari. That said I wouldn't entirely discount the possibility.

Yeah, I'm much more inclined to believe manic "I am too high to lie" Jiraiya.

There are just way too many facts consistent with actual impairment, and so little motive, to put much probability mass on the idea that he's lying.

Honoka was up from her chair the instant the big stupidhead teacher dismissed them, her schoolbooks having already been neatly stacked so they dropped smoothly into her bag. She was out the door before anyone else had even finished standing up, hair trailing behind her with the speed of her run, not stopping when teacher-stinker shouted something about slowing down.
Anyone else getting an extremely anachronistic vibe from this? Don't run in school... ninja candidate? And be sure to bring your paper books!

The kids are young enough, I think, that they haven't had physical training enough to be really above normal people, so running in the hallways is as disruptive as it would be for normal people.

The books are a good point, but the Nara do have a printing press and the education of young ninjas is likely a topic given a lot of funding. Might still be an error, but it depends on how the QMs model Konoha society; from what I know it could go either way.
