You know, this keeping watch thing is really not working out for us.

So...anyone want to run away this time?

What state is Hazou in?
Relatively uninjured. Noburi and Keiko went down fast, and since the enemy was fighting to disable, Hazō decided this was not the time to be heroic against three-to-one odds.

In the forest, some way away from the camp, observing from some bushes.

Are the enemy aware of him?
Their behaviour implies that they aren't.

Are there clues in the enemies' appearances as to their specialities or weaknesses?
Bōsatsu is heavily-built and wears hand wraps. Mirai carries a bunch of ninja tools on her belt, including a kusari-gama. Ken seems to have a normal shinobi loadout, and an average physique. For what it's worth, he's wearing Hidden Rock gear.

Is Mari just fucking with us?
Find out... next update.

Can Akane fight in her current state?
She'll get penalties. You don't know how bad they'll be.

First off, you accidently threadmarked my reaction as the 27th chapter.

@Velorien : What do we know the skill levels and ranking of Ken, Mirai, Bosatsu, and Muramatsu? We must have fought at least a few of them.

Also, everyone...

SUCK IT NON-BELIEVERS!

The threadmark title does fit your post quite well

Hmm. There's a pretty good chance this is still part of the genjutsu, as it's a terrific way to truly test Akane. But we should operate as if it's real either way (and holy crap things escalated badly if so)

@MadScientist She's also probably why we got caught.

More details for questions:
1. What are Noburi/Keiko/Akane? tied up with: rope or ninja wire?
2. Where is Noburi's water bottle?
3. Ninjutsu-guy and ???-guy are talking to Akane, where's the third?
4. Do we have sealing tools prepped (i.e., we have paper/chakra ink)?
5. Are there any large objects nearby for Kawarimi, or for us to bluff a Henge?

Hang on, what stops us from just Kawarimi-spamming our teammates to safety by switching with Keiko, then with largerock#1, then with Wakahisa, then with largerock#2? I mean, if the Academy student could do it fast enough to avoid Konoha patrols...

So, the only strategies I can think of are run and hope for the best, use large-seal from Kagome/imbue a seal (and probably kill our teammates), run hugely improbable deception gambit, or charge and die. We don't have ranged abilities, we will lose in Taijutsu against three people. The only good news I can think of is that it seems likely that they are just genin, and that we could probably defeat any single one of them in single combat (our taijutsu is higher than when we had a 10/15 victory rate, but presumably duels are not quite actual battles). We'd need some kinda crazy luck and great plan to have that happen though.

Also, it's unclear to me if these ninja are from the Liberators or from somewhere else (it's entirely possible this is how Yujin wants to collect his field agents). If they're Liberators, maybe we could find Yujin and mount a rescue mission (though he'd probably just cut weight and let them die), if they're with Yujin, hopefully we aren't in too much danger (non-lethal methods are consistent with both of these possibilities).
Edit: reread - pretty clear they're from Liberators (they mention going back to the fortress)
Edit 2: now I'm unclear. Who would be on the infiltrator list if these are Liberator ninja? This doesn't make sense.

It might be helpful to think of ways we were found. It also might not. We're kinda dead. Maybe if we can rescue Noburi and Keiko, then come up with a combo which frees Inoue we won't die, but that's about it. They can almost certainly find us if we run, we can't beat them in combat.

Fortunately, given our role in the village, we should have fought these ninja before, so should hopefully have some idea what they're capable of. (and maybe get bonus dice if some form of SAoF is taken)

And yeah, I definitely don't like that we took Akane with us. We basically told the village we were leaving, so they knew what was up, probably sped up their finding us by about 2-3 hours (though people were getting suspicious about Ko, so meh). If we'd just left her she'd be sad we left, but probs not dead like she's likely to become now. We both hurt our own chances and put her in an even worse position. That said, we can now count on a youthful contributor to battle if we attack now, which is something, though almost certainly not enough. Regardless, they surprised us because Inoue was interrogating her instead of watching. She's a large part of why this mess is so bad.

1. Rope
2. You can't see it.
3. Watching the prisoners.
4. Yes.
5. Mostly trees, some bushes.

The same thing that stops you Kawarimiing with trees. Your teammates are tied up and you can only Kawarimi with free-standing objects.

Current status on Mari?
You don't know. Neither she nor Muramatsu have come back so far.

We have MechApt. Could we set up traps and then lead these guys through them?
In principle.

Alright, I'm confused. If these are Liberator ninja, what infiltration are they talking about? It's referenced twice. Apparently they have a list of infiltration ninja, but the only person we've allowed to join us is Akane, and presumably they wouldn't have know they needed to infiltrate us for a while... so what are they talking about? Also, why doesn't Akane recognize either of them?

@Velorien: How thick is the rope? Would a well-thrown kunai be able to cut through the bonds? How much skill would that require given that our bloodline lets us perform perfect actions (and we can't possibly have not mastered the basic kunai throw).

How believable would it be for us to set a kunai trap up with a Bunshin charging behind it, as a lure for the ninjas to move away from the hostages? Obviously it won't last but it buys time for Hazou to get our allies awake/untied.

Okay.

Serious plan time:

[x] Plan Divide and Conquer

Go deeper into the forest. Set off Kagome's seal as a distraction, then head at a perpendicular angle and curve back around.

I predict that they'll send one person to investigate, leave one guarding Akane, and one guarding the others.

Aid Akane in fighting off her guard, kill them before the other can interfere.

Close on the other in melee, have Akane free Nobby and Kei. Then kill the other with their help.

Prepare to kill the returning ninja or flee. Both have their pros and cons.

Other thoughts: if these are Liberator ninja, we should know who their jounin leader is. We could presumably enter the clearing henged as them for maybe half a second of indecision before they see through it (unless they took paranoid safety precautions). Probably not worth the penalty dice we'd get for fighting henged though.

Muramatsu = ~jounin, fighting Inoue off-site

Bousatsu = genin-chuunin, taijutsu, tired
Mirai = genin-chuunin, chain sickle, tired
Ken = genin-chuunin, ninjutsu, tired

Keiko and Noburi = tied to a tree, probably injured

Akane = about to fight 2 ninjas alone, dizzy

Hazou = just chilling

Since Ken took Akane to the side to talk with her, we can assume that there's only one guy watching Keiko and Noburi at the moment and he can't immediately see what's going on with Ken and Akane. That means we can turn this thing in to separated engagements:

Option 1:

Akane and Hazou vs 2 ninjas
Akane and Hazou vs the watchman
Release teammates

or

Option 2:

Akane vs 2 ninjas
Hazou vs the watchman
Release teammates
Team vs 2 ninjas

Option 1 relies on Akane to be able to put up a fight. If Hazou can take one of the ninjas by surprise while they are fighting Akane this thing turns in to a 2v1.

Option 2 requires that the ninjas won't just straight-up kill Akane and that Hazou can take the watchman by surprise. After that we need to be able to get our teammates to fighting shape fast or we are face with a 2v1 fight.

It should be noted that the watchman is less likely to move and leave his prisoners alone, the other two ninja are able to go back to the prisoners easier.

Yeah, Keiko and Noburi are both unconscious presumably. Unless we learned medical ninjutsu while I wasn't looking, we don't have a way to wake them up. We cannot count on them helping us at all for this engagement. That meas only Option 1 has a chance of working, though I'm still not a fan of it. Not to mention that Akane and Hazou have terrible synergy and have never worked together on something like this before.

ETA: also, if we're counting the genin-cunnin as tired, we probably also count as tired.

Ninjutsu-guy is the biggest threat so if we're going to fight we almost have to take him out immediately, so yeah we need to fight him and the other one (is he the kusarigama or the fists guy?).

Of course the third option is to prep and throw explosive tags at the two ninjas, and sacrifice Akane. That would give us a 1v1 with the watchman.
