*looks at wall of text* Seems you may have gone a bit overboard here, @1234qwerty. Dunno if I'll have the time to read through the whole thing, but I gotta comment on this...

1. Talk to Shikamaru
a. See if he's willing to lean on his father for a marriage with Keiko.
1. Invite Shikamaru to our residence before speaking with his father.
a. Clear this with the team/Jiraiya beforehand, including what we expect to bring up in the discussion.
b. Small talk about the book he recommended to us and what's happened in Leaf since we've been gone to make him comfortable. - If he's aware of his father's clan offer to Keiko, do this after the main discussion.c. Bring up the offer his father made to Keiko- Use Clear Communication.
- What does he think his father's motivations are?
- Without being sure, we(more importantly) don't know which offer we prefer.
- We don't know what Shikamaru's relationship with his father is like, but we like Shikamaru and we hope it wouldn't be rude to offer him the opportunity for some political capital. It occurs to us, if he insisted to his father that should Keiko marry into the clan, he wishes to be her husband, he could leverage a refusal into furthering some other goal or if his father acquiesces *insert-benefits-of-marrying-Keiko-here*. Stuff along the lines of Keiko being low maintenance(or let Keiko make her own case) and marriage being an inevitability otherwise.

Now, I realize that Keiko x Shikamaru is a desirable ship for a lot of people, and I'm kind of a fan of the idea myself, but... this seems like a bad idea all around.

1. Keiko has not even decided whether or not she wants to marry a Nara at all. Trying to set her up with Shikamaru given that seems like it ignores her agency in the matter when Hazou has already stated he'll support her decision. Let's not be a hyopcrite.

2. Shikamaru is not our friend. Not yet, anyways. He was one of our minders when we were in Leaf and Hazou got along well with him, so there's a potential for friendship there, but we aren't there yet. Trying to get him to not only tell us his father's intentions in an important meeting that is about to occur and also trying to hook him up with Keiko while we're at it isn't really something that we should be doing as just friendly acquaintances, even if we're likely to be allies soon. And for all we know Shikamaru is interested in someone else, or has an existing arranged marriage in the works.

@Enjou

I would suggest light shutters as a complement or primary mean of communication in the semaphore system. Telescopes would be nice, but they are expensive, suggesting that they can't be mass produced.

Edit: We could probably encode messages into some sort of Morse code or similar binary format, each letter corresponding to a kanji.

There is a real risk of central command getting myopically focused on the tactical gritty nitty details rather than on the strategic level, given the faster flow of information enabled by the semaphore system.

Ok, just some notes on the usefulness of a semaphore system for communication speeds, @eaglejarl, @OliWhail, @Velorien

I'm going to make a couple presumptions here:
1. The curvature of the MfD planet is equal to that of the Earth for the purpose of calculating distance to the horizon.
2. Telescopes in the MfD world are good enough to see semaphore signals from up to 100 miles away without much problem.

So, basic math...
1. According to this handy dandy distance to horizon calculator, if we put up a skytower to 1,500 meters high (500 meters below the lowest height clouds tend to get) then the distance to the horizon is 138.3km, or 85.9 miles. If we put a second skytower up at the same height, it's pretty damn easy to see it.

2. Ninja travel speed for the team with skywalkers was 20mph, IIRC. So, it'd take 4 hours for a messenger with skywalkers to get from one tower to the other. Depending on the complexity of a semaphore message, it shouldn't take more than half an hour to send a message. Far less if you have predefined messages like "Scenario Bravo" or something along those lines where the message is compressed, but complex messages are possible since you've got an alphabet.

So, depending on how long your line of towers are, you can save anywhere from hours to days. Pretty clear benefit to communications between local command and headquarters.

Hmm, shooting yourself in the foot here. Not getting married makes her the lowest maintenance of all.
Totally willing to remove this part, like I said. Curious what your complete thoughts are on anyone in the team getting married? Do you not want anyone to get married or have children until they're 18? 21? How much political capital would you be willing to sacrifice to make it so? Reciprocally, what would be enough of an incentive to do so earlier?I don't really have a good handle on your or the thread's general thoughts on issues like this.
I want to avoid any possible situation where the mods can show up. IIRC there were some issues a long time ago where we talked about getting married and having kids.

Wow.

Mari-sensei thought the entire war would take one week(probably very optimistic), but this allow Leaf to basically think outside the opponent's OODA loop.

Ultimately marrying Kei to shikamaru unites 4 clans together. Which is a huge political gain. As long as Kei is on bored that's the option we should pursue over adoption or marrying some random Nara.

Serious note: I don't think marriage with Shikamaru is plausible. We're asking the Nara Clan to marry their clan heir to a (former) missing-nin from a newly-formed clan. Opportunity or no I don't see this match happening.

Also another proposal for iron nerve social would just let the +3 apply to diplomacy and deception.

I dislike spending all our points into diplomacy and other skills when I want to invest in mad-science related skillsets like technique hacking and MechApt.
