(Sometimes? How would he know if he had missed it?)
Presumably by not seeing the little tick that happens when you change between stored expressions.
XP AWARD: 240 This update covered 60 days. That's my understanding, anyway—if I misunderstood @Paperclipped then I'll come back and update this. Whatever, the daily rate won't change.

Whew! I thought you would leave us in suspense for a while longer about whether or not Orochimaru is actually missing or still working on this.

Before anyone could move, Noburi was on his knees beside the toad, pulling supplies from his seals and running medical chakra over the horrific wounds on the toad's back.

Hazō raised an arm to the side, barring the rest of the family from crowding around Noburi while he worked. He needn't have bothered. Everyone's eyes were riveted to Gamahebigai's back.
I thought Gamahebigai, having been summoned onto the Human Path, was a chakra construct? Does medical ninjutsu onto a Summoned being transfer onto the physical body?

@eaglejarl I really hate to ask (since this is a scene I know you'd love to write in full), but was summoning Cannai successful with our current chakra reserves or do we need to invest more XP into it?

The wounds were fresh and had clearly been made with something extremely sharp, perhaps a scalpel. They were shallow, not life-threatening or any risk of permanent damage. Instead, the skin had been flensed away in neat strips.

Orochimaru, why are you like this?

Anyways, how many levels of Shadow Clone are we buying for Noburi?

I have completed the push/pull work.

Enemy has built fortress onsite. Heavy movement in and out, including large amounts of logistical material. Suggests they have opened it or will soon open it.
Well, we're out of time. And thank goodness we managed to get in contact when we did: we were in a position to just utterly overshoot our deadline without it.

Orochimaru is the only one who can make the rift yoink runes, which means he's going to be the one deciding the destination of the rift. We'll need to find some way to make sure he doesn't run off with it.

Leaf is also another big question. It's possible Orochimaru has already assembled their forces. It's possible Orochimaru really did have a break with Naruto and isn't in a position to call on them. Leaf is right on the way from Rice to O'Uzu, so we don't need to sort this out ahead of time.

I'm not sure if I dare hope that Orochimaru's had the time to develop better weapons than us. Does the existence of a fortress get in the way of our plans? Their walls might block Line of Effect and stop us from Remote Explosive alpha striking them. (The existence of the fortress also all but guarantees that Akatsuki members are on-site.)

The dice are cast, we have the runes that we have and no more. It's now up to us to use them well enough to secure victory.

On the contrary, Remote Explosive combined with Ninja Radar allows us to knock down their fortress and watch them suffocate in the rubble. There's *no* way it's strong enough to stand up to a barrage.

I don't want to be a bummer, but isn't shadow clone summoning sickness a thing? Like, the first time you cast it you're supposed to lay down, close your eyes, and dispel almost immediately so the new clone's memories don't overload your mind?

Anyways it's cool to see Orochimaru reach out. Sucks for the toad though, Nobby might have to reverse summon to try and help him back on the 7th path for it to stick properly.

Kei didn't do it either, I think Asuma was just being careful with the goose that alternately laid golden eggs and a river of shit.

Noburi has Resolve 30 so not really.

At level 1 SC, for a 1 hr clone, it attacks at 21 vs 27.

So he cannot roll so badly it gives a Consequence. Worst that can happen is 2 stress, which clears in a few minutes (ie. a bad headache)

Well I knew resolve fixed the issue and allowed for more clones to be up for longer, I just figured it still had to be something you got used to. Didn't think you could just brush off the first attempt as utterly inconsequential.

Though Yeah, I guess Kei/Snowflake is an example to the contrary, and I'm sure Ami didn't bother building up a tolerance either. Ami got the shadow clone too right before she went missing, am I remember that right?

Guess it really was a cautiously babying Hazo thing.

So, uh. For those in the know (decided what runes to research and why), what was the grand idea behind the research? Skimming through the runes Hazo Knows, I don't quite get the idea behind what we researched and why. Seems we got remote controlled explosives and a giant force dome? What are any soon to be completed runes and what's the full plan with those? (Icarus rune, etc)

I don't need the exact plan, but the general idea would be nice? Doesn't seem we're gonna be able to just smash and grab.

Also can anyone do the math and tell me if the time rune runes actually helped? (In hindsight was it good to research them for the xp and not spend the time researching other weapons/things)

Dossier on locations has invisible-ink message. Heat the pages. Meet me at 3rd location immediately. I will wait a reasonable time, then act with/without you.
Does Oro really think he has a shot at doing it solo?

And Oro doesn't have any incentive to lie right? If the portal was unprotected, or he's already stolen it, him lying to entrapping us wouldn't help him right?
