Can we get an update on Yuuma?

According to the timeline doc...
  • Yuuma was initially injured on March 12th, in universe.
  • The last, on-screen, update we got about Yuuma's health was on March 30th.
  • As of Chapter 661.2, it is now July 30th, meaning that approximately four months have passed.

Last we heard, Yuuma was going to make a full recovery, and that he felt relief/indebted to us for rescuing him. He was also more than a little shaken up by the mental effects of the Sealing Failure, and Hazou gaving him some solid advice. (Quotes down below for your convenience).

Possible answers include...
  • With Tsunade in Leaf, the hospital's medics are in rare form. Yuuma's healing is progressing faster than initially projected, and is expected to make a full recovery.
  • Yuuma's healing is going along as projected, and he is expected to make a full recovery.
  • Yuuma's healing is taking a little bit longer than expected, since he has a habit of over-exerting himself. He is still expected to make a full recovery, but it is taking a little bit longer than initially planned.
  • Yuuma is healing [faster/as expected/slower], but will be feeling lifelong hurts as a result of his injuries. They are [minor/moderate/severe debuff to [stat/stats]].

Possible extra answers...
  • Along with Yuuma's healing, he has taken up one of/more of the following to keep his hands and mind occupied...
    • Personally tutoring Sasha with her Academy Classes, following Hazou's training modules. He thinks that Sasha is [feedback/opportunity for more on-screen info about Sasha]
      • Examples...
        • Sasha is a dutiful student, and her curiosity is insatiable
        • Sasha is a dutiful student, and takes herself much more seriously than most kids her age
        • Sasha is a dutiful student, with no small fascination with jutsu. She can often be found interrogating politely asking Reo about the inner workings of jutsu.
        • Sasha feels the plight of civilians acutely, and her dedication to Uplift reminds Yuuma of Hazou, or perhaps even Akane.
    • After watching Mari, Haru, Gaku, and Noburi run themselves ragged trying to help the clan, Yuuma has been training up his social skills to try and alleviate some of the burden. After all, it's something he can train up, even if he is injured.
      • Yuuma says that he's disinclined to become a full-time social spec, but that he wouldn't mind training up his social skills to where he can help Mari or Haru with a social plan.
      • Yuuma says that, although his true calling is combat, for how it can help civilians, he'd like to pick up a secondary specialization is social maneuvering. After all, ninja and ninja policy affect civilians, and at least this way, he can help champion Uplift-as-a-cause.
  • Reading medknow/mednin lootboxes to better understand how he is hurt, and what the mednin are doing during his healing sessions. Mari says it likely helps Yuuma feel a better sense of control over his situation.
    • Yuuma says that he's disinclined to become a full-time medic, but that he's happy to learn what the lootboxes have to teach him, and help out at the Goketsu Clinic while he's injured.
    • Yuuma says that, while his true calling is combat, for for how it can help civilians, he'd like to pick up a secondary specialization in medicine to help further Uplift as a cause.
  • Reading Sealing lootboxes when Kazushi/Shinji allow, to better understand what happened down in those caverns. Mari says it likely helps Yuuma feel a better sense of control over his situation.
    • Yuuma says that he's disinclined to become a research sealmaster, but that he doesn't mind helping with the Akane Seal Bank a little.
    • Yuuma says that his true calling is combat, for how it can help civilians, but that he'd like to pick up a secondary specialization in Sealing to help further Uplift as a cause.

"Good," he said. "Better than yesterday, which was better than the day before. The headache is going away and they had me walk a couple steps yesterday. They said I can do missions again by year's end."

"I nearly died," Yūma said. "I don't know how I can ever repay you and Lord Noburi and Lady Kei and Yuno for bailing me out."

"Maybe," Hazō said carefully, "it was a mental compulsion drawing you into the cave so that the creatures could consume you somehow – maybe your mind or chakra. It took root in you for a while, but eventually you shook it off, and that's why you don't feel it anymore."

"I know how chakra beasts work, Hazō," Yūma said. "I've hunted predators that warp your mind to lure you into their lairs. This felt different. Real."

"Remember, it wasn't a chakra beast," Hazō said. "It was a sealing failure. Different rules. And the failure was caused by me and interacted with me somehow. It was clearly mind-affecting, the way it drew those ghosts from my memories of the past, so it's likely your mind just got affected too."

Yūma sighed. "I suppose," he said, looking again into his empty cup of water.

Hazō reached out to grasp Yūma's shoulder. "Just remember, you're okay, and we'll all be by your side as you recover. Plenty of things have messed with my head over the years. I've always found it's best to stay grounded in the real things. It'll get better, I promise."

"Yes," Yūma said. "Hazō, there was something in that cave for you. I don't know whether it was waiting for you or it was made for you or what exactly it was, but it was important. I remember thinking it was so important, I was willing to bleed out on the stone to get it for you. But Hazō, it was big. Unbelievably big, so big it felt like I couldn't hold it all in my mind."
Huh. Reading back on this, I'm actually really curious about what this was. It definitely sounds like a weird mental effect but it still sounds interesting.

Another sealing mystery that may never be answered. Up there with 'were those robots?!'

The answer was "death," given that there was two jōnin down there.

IC I'm treating what he said as a continuation of the psychic lure that was what kept Yūma walking downstairs.

OOC this was certain death that had a surprise jōnin that would have killed Hazō had we not bailed at an earlier encounter.

Maybe, depends if they targeted Hazou. If we hadn't grouped up like dummies and had Yuno up front we would have been better off in the Squirrel Ghost combat

Sasha previously said that she had, at one point in time, wanted to be a ninjutsu specialist after graduation, but reaffirmed that she was holding off on making a firm decision until she saw what resources our clan has (which, to be fair... are many).

The Goketsu Clan has...
  • Many Taijutsu Buffs (macerators, RRB stunts, Flame Aura, SOTS, ghost scales)
  • Many Melee Weapons Buffs (electric seals, soon-to-be force claws, SOTS, Lightning Blade, )
  • Stealth Boosts (darkness seals, silence mines, Cloak of the Reaper)
  • Many Ninjutsu (and a THer to make more)
  • Many insane research boosts (THing lootboxes, Medical lootboxes, Dampener seals, sealing lootboxes)
  • And many more that I'm likely forgetting off the top of my head
Sasha graduates less than a month away, in-universe... maybe even by the end of the next update, debating on the timeline.

Sasha has said that she will specialize however Hazou tells her to, but we-the-playerbase want to respect Sasha's agency and Hazou-the-character has made great strides in trying to achieve his top-down-clan-head-leadership-duties without trivializing or depersonalizing his friends and family.

Does Sasha still want to be a ninjutsu specialist?

Noburi laughed. "Not exactly. But one day, you'll be able to do that and more. You, Gōketsu Sasha, have the Fire Element."

Sasha nodded, accepting the information. Was there a hint of disappointment on her face? Maybe Hazō had misread it. "Thank you, Lord Noburi."

"So," Noburi said. "The Academy is pretty general until the last year, right? You've had time to think about your specialization, and now you have six months to plan and train. Do you know what kind of ninja you want to be?"

Sasha shook her head, looking at the ground. "I don't know. I always wanted to be a ninjutsu specialist, and I was pretty good at Substitution and Clone, but I know the clan doesn't have lots of Fire Element users. I was going to train everything evenly and decide what specialization I wanted when I graduated, after I could see the clan's ninjutsu and seals."

"We have a few Fire Element ninjutsu in the vaults," Hazō said, nodding along. "And Reo probably has a couple more that he could teach you. You could be a Gōketsu ninjutsu specialist."

"If you wish it, Lord Hazō," she said, bowing again to her clan lord. "But I will be of service to the clan. I can specialize in whatever way would be best."

Further, as an aside, we gave Oshiro the commission to design Rocket Boot-compatible Kunai on May 1st. It is now July 30th, as of chapter 661.2. Meaning it has been about 3 months, or 92 days.

Do we have any updates on the progress of it? Here are some possible answers to lower the spoon-cost of interacting with this
  • The RB-Kunai are completed to perfection.
  • The RB-Kunai have an imperfect version complete, but Oshiro will continue to work on it.
    • (it only adds 2/3 Sealmaster AB, rounded up)
  • The RB Kunai have an imperfect version complete, but Oshiro will continue to work on it.
    • (it only adds 1/2 Sealmaster AB, rounded up)
  • The RB-Kunai is still a work in progress, but Oshiro thinks he might have a useable version, soon.
  • The RB-Kunai is still a work in progress, but Oshiro thinks he's making respectable progress.
  • The RB-Kunai is still a work in progress, and Oshiro thinks he has a long road ahead of him.

Canary Rune

Rune

A rune that does nothing and breaks/terminates safely (instead of possible runic failure) if it would experience undefined behaviour.

Intended to be the test rune for transporting runes to the Seventh Path via Reverse Summoning

Chakra Attenuation Rune

Rune

Projects a peculiar field that makes all chakra effects less effective (possibly by increasing chakra diffusion, but whatever Hazoupilot thinks will get the job done). Ninjutsu/genjutsu have reduced range, chakra constructs are less stable/lower range from caster/less durable. Some weak ones might not form at all. Effect is enhanced the farther from the caster the chakra effect is, so chakra adhesion/repulsion is almost normal, but long range ninjutsu evaporates.

Seals and other runes that depend on chakra for anything more than short range effects have their effective range cut down, with varying results. Seal and runes that do not depend on chakra for their effects are unaffected.

[X] Action Plan: Give Us TH Mechanics Now + Sealing Research
Word Count: <299
  • Desired update duration: 11 days (subjective)
  • Move research sites, clean up used runic substrate, bury any active runes. Head for a random island on the other side of Aisu Bay, swing by our first FFR site and grab the expended rune.
  • Start spending as much time as possible inside a TR125 without missing obligations on the Seventh Path
  • Work on our TH project with Toad Sages
    • Buy up to TH 10 when XP becomes available
    • Candidate projects:
      • Earth Rend Till
      • Earth Rend Leveling
      • Less chakra-intensive MARI
      • Multiple Earth Wall variant that produces stone with a slightly different mineral composition than the usual MEW granite
      • Non-elemental short (<5 cm) range activation of seal
      • ES but faster and shorter range
      • Telekenesis of rocks/earth (e.g. pull a pebble towards you)
      • QUASI
      • Longer duration Earth Clone
  • Dogs
    • Go see what Canabisu has to say in his debrief about his travels
      • Assist in his "rehabilitation" of Cantelabra
    • Attend the Gray Oak's taleswap for Canaut
  • Sealing Research
Currently clocks in at 261 slim, slender, lean fighting words. So if anyone wants to drop a misc bullet point or two I don't mind.

Proposed addition:
According to all known laws
of aviation,
:
there is no way a bee
should be able to fly.
:
Its wings are too small to get
its fat little body off the ground.
:
The bee, of course, flies anyway
:
because bees don't care
what humans think is impossible.
BARRY BENSON:
(Barry is picking out a shirt)
Yellow, black. Yellow, black.

Now that I have your attention, I have two suggestions.
1. Rune That Makes [Effects] Happen Over There (not centered on the rune itself) is an idea too simple for a high wordcount effortpost but which I think is worthwhile.

2. If we are coming to the end of the TH apprenticeship with TS, we should ask them some philosophical questions like "what is the nature of Duty" and "why haven't you uplifted humans if you're so damn smart"

[sorry for the ping on what turned out to be mostly a meme post]

Canary Rune

Rune

A rune that does nothing and can be destroyed safely. Intended to be the test rune for transporting runes to the Seventh Path via Reverse Summoning.
This misses the mark. It could still experience a runic failure for reasons other than being destroyed, or react weirdly with runic drag applying to our dimensional transit.
"designed to safely terminate if it would experience undefined behaviour" is an important phrase here.

Try this:

Canary Rune

Rune

A rune that breaks/terminates safely (instead of possible runic failure) if it would experience undefined behaviour. It has no other effects.
Intended to be the test rune for transporting runes to the Seventh Path via Reverse Summoning.

If Hazou + Kei + Kagome think they can guess what the likely causes of undefined behaviour for bringing a rune between paths are, it only needs to be insured against those.

Do you think we could swing something like

  • Have Hazo send instructions to Gaku to reenact Erasothenes' shadow-measuring experiment at the same time Hazo does in 2 days and report back
Implemented. IDK if we can just do that (Hazou doesn't know who Erasothenes is) but it's not a waste since we weren't using it anyway
Minor, but can we please call this version "Force Blades"?
It's much more accurate, as it's going to apply to a ton of bladed weapons, instead of being a specifically claw-shaped construct to replace hazou's pangolin gauntlets.
I have no problem with this.

Does anyone object to the name change? We are changing "Force Claws" to "Force Blades", as that more accurately reflects the seals's nature.

Neither of them has a precise way to measure time, they just eyeball it based on the sun.

Shouldn't we use Noburi to sync up on the 7th path and do it at actually the same time?

@Velorien What is being asked of us the player base, with respect to Kei's request? Is it simply to level her socials in the next training plan(s)? Or do we have to come up with how she would go about doing that IC, similar to how we had to design "Ami-style" training schemes? Or something else?

In any case, the best target for varied social training seems to be other Summon Clans, preferentially ones allied with or neutral but not hostile to the Pangolin. So primarily but not exclusively Toads I guess.

What's the current status of the Conclave in Pangolin? Is it still functioning as a trade hub and housing diplomats and traders from most of the participating Clans?

There's been some discussion of not wanting to change the plan because it's so close to closing in spite of nominally agreeing that we should do work on the mission objective, so:

@eaglejarl Could we have an extension? This is asked with the real possibility that the plan will not be changed, but that I would like to have the opportunity to do so.
