So, Doof is obviously leading the Auction Quest. It's also safe, so we can bring along the entire doof troop.
Martial(Doof+Vanessa):20+12+10=42*
Diplomacy(Doof+Vanessa):18+14+10=42
Stewardship(Doof+Max):24+9+10=43
Intrigue(Doof+Janna):14+20+10=44
Learning(Doof+Vanessa):38+18+10=66
Occult (Doof+Janna):4+10+12+10=36
* Probably won't be rolled, and if it's rolled in combat, it's instead Doof+Janna for 59

So how can we improve this stat spread best with another hero? Martial is, I think, irrelevant unless we've really misjudged Xanatos, so it's our other stats that are in question. Diplomacy we can increase by +4 by bringing Goofy or +2(7) by bringing Russ. Stewardship we can increase by +4 with Mirage, or +3 for Wile or Khan. Intrigue we can boost by 16(21) by bringing Russ. Learning we can increase by 2 with Lizzie or 12 with Von Drake. Occult we can't increase.

Unless Janus Lee or Kitsune have significantly better stats then I'm expecting they don't change the equation. 32 Occult is pretty hard to beat, after all, and this way we can have Kitsune on national actions. So, who do we bring along? Bringing Khan for his +3 stewardship is a complete waste. Lizzie adds two learning, but at the cost of 5 Diplo, so she's out. That Leaves Russ, Von Drake, Goofy, Wile, and Mirage. Mirage might be helpful for flavor, but I think Goofy and Wile are a waste; we'd be taking a top tier hero with high loyalty off their national action in exchange for a relatively small bonus.

I would argue that if we can shake him loose, Russ should be our pick. It's Xanatos, so I kinda expect him to succeed at sussing us out anyway, but I'd rather not make it easy on him, and bringing our intrigue bonus up to 65 is a good start on preventing him from walking all over us. He also adds +2 diplo to our total, which is always helpful. Next turn is one of the better turns to do that on, as we don't currently have any pressing actions in LA, so swapping him out for Mirage or Tobe on an intrigue action is less of a downgrade. However, if we end up getting another Intrigue action we need him for, then we need him for something else; his bonus would be seriously nice, but our statline isn't bad without it. Certainly, given that he's not leading and martial actions aren't expected, he's somewhat less valuable than he'd normally be on a quest, so there's also the argument for getting more of the <russ specialized> intrigue actions out of the way while we can.

Minor note since it doesn't change your analysis at all, but we actually have another +7 from our PMC. As for heroes, given is an auction, and likely to be a lot of money spending options, I'd kinda like to stewardship focus.

Edit: on the other hand, that intrigue bonus is huge. Shame we don't have any low intrigue options to make it easy to pull Russ away.

I mean... if he's the same Chairman from the "Back In Action" movie, then he... was... looking for the... BLUE MONKEY STATUE. Which turns people into MONKIES. Because... reasons.

... the +55 was what we got from doing the Large Hire option. If we chose the Small option we probably would have gotten someone with a +20-30, and the Medium Hire one probably would have given us a Hero Unit that has a +30-40 Intrigue stat. Besides, until we can convince him and the rest of his family to fully join us, I doubt any of his traits will activate, and, again, he's not actually a permanent employee yet, so he has no reason to be loyal to us.

Also, hiring him and his family multiple times will also probably unlock every single one of them as members, while also, probably, unlocking a third Intrigue action... permanently. Meaning that, while yes they cost us a lot of money right now, their worth in the long one is actually quite considerable.

we do need to actually keep our Economy up though we took a noticeable dip of our income for this.
So, Doof is obviously leading the Auction Quest. It's also safe, so we can bring along the entire doof troop.

We've already committed 3 heroes and Doof. With the Doof troop boost they're all well rounded and the extra any stat isn't really needed. Heck Janna might be able to beat Khan by herself when hopped up on friendship.

the rest will probably be needed elsewhere

Yeah, but we get that regardless and I didnt want to crowd it. You're completely right though.
Wouldn't our slots be automatically full? Doof + Doof Troop is four people, and as far as I know we an only send four people on a Quest at a time. Unless Doof doesn't actually take up a slot or something? I dunno, am I just missing something here?
We can send 5. Which is handy, as it means we don't have to debate setting aside multiple top of the line hero units and whether or not each is worth it, just pick the best one,

E:
Diplomacy(doof+mirage): 18+24+5=47
Stewardship(doof+mirage): 24+23+5=52
Intrigue(doof+mirage): 14+28+5=47
Assuming 2/3 doof troop
Doof Troop does not apply to Mirage. She only gives a +4 stewardship bonus, plus whatever narrative changes she makes,

Sure but I don't think there's really any pressing need for a fifth hero.

Why you catastrophize so? Relax.
I'm not catastrophizing, Kat is legitimately a very serious threat that has infiltrated us, grows more serious every turn we leave him alone and seemingly benefits when we fail actions, he should be our current number one priority before he becomes too big of a problem to be dealt with without extreme effort
Half the inator rolls are good, and half are bad. If we get to roll twice, half the time this does nothing, because the first roll gives us the inator we would have chosen anyway. Of the remaining half of all cases, a quarter will simply be choosing between two good options or the lesser of two evils.

So "Tinker with your inators" lets us exchange a bad roll for a good one only a quarter of all times we take the action, and lets us choose the lesser of two evils on another quarter of all occasions.

We are therefore sacrificing two personal actions (on separate turns) for each time we avert or even mitigate a crisis with "Tinker with your inators."

Is losing two of Doof's personal actions worth it? Debatable. We get a lot of mileage out of those actions.
I would argue that it's always worth it

A third of the time it lets us choose between a good and a bad Inator, which is arguably worth it all by itself

A third of the time we get to choose the lesser of two evils, which considering that bad Inators range from a slight malus to something for a turn to something disastrous like getting Kat involved is also worth it

And the last third of the time we get to pick the best of two options, which is always helpful
I don't think spying on our employees is going to help us find Kat. He's got nothing to do with our employees, unless we talk with P&F. They'd probably tell us about him.
Kat works for OWCA, spying on our employees is the only feasible way for Doof to learn of him

I think just sending the Doof Troop on the auction is fine unless there's literally nothing better for Mirage to do, and I consider her personal actions a better use of her action than the marginal improvements in the rolls. And taking into account that we have just uncovered whatever the Phantom Blot was doing in L.A., sending Russ to the auction feels like a complete pipe-dream; the man will likely be busy for a while.

Negaverse Janna-Quest: Trust
I want more negaverse stuff in general! Like the Janna negaverse quest @Alastair1 is making.
...fuck it I know next to nothing on Janna stuff but I'll DO IT LIVE! Mostly because I have not been able to watch a single episode of Star Vs. yet properly.

Takes place during 'You can Cleave it apart...' and '...or you can Cleave it together.'

Are you for real? That's not what this conversation has been about! I can't believe that our write-in just consisted of us saying the word 'don't' in spooky colors. it has nothing to do with Max or our parents or anything like that! God, it's bad enough that some people around here aren't even thinking this shit through, but at least THEY are on topic!

dude what the fuck I was speaking generally. I wasn't participating in the most recent argument! I hate how frequently they happen and I thought I'd just vent a little about how what seemed like a 'punk kid goes up against the megacorps' story I was expecting has turned into '1984, but on the losing side'.

God I hate these arguments. ;-;

Look, what's done is done, Saddog. We had been repeatedly warned by the QM that a lengthy write-in would auto-fail because everyone tries to cram every eventuality into them and GER was sick of that. So people went in the opposite direction. It's done. We literally can't do anything else but wait for the interlude to happen!

EDIT: And you've left. I have to agree with you on that though. We BOTH should have backed off before now. I'll go and get some air myself.

[]Write-in: Tell Doofenshmirtz 'Don't' in red letters if he considers taking Toffee's offer.
[]Retreat to the rooftops

You retreat to the rooftops after delivering your warning. After being reminded of all the terribleness you had left home to escape, some fresh air was needed. And your shoulders agree with you since they loosen upon feeling the fresh air.

Stress increase reduced! Stress still in the 'Worryingly High' range!

Still, your mind swirls as you plan for the worst case scenario. How you'll get out of Danville. How you'll get around Khan or Agent Russ or the Normbots. Your stealth skills have gotten better with your dedication to pranking, but being able to evade the Khan or those tireless robots makes it hard to think.

And honestly, that wouldn't be the worst part. You have to admit, after spending so long getting to know the guy, the bossman is actually... nice. Not even your parents have been this supportive. And they haven't even given you a badass staff with a ghost inside of it, no matter how much you mentioned having one would be sweet. Speaking of which...

"You seem quiet, Felldrake," You note a bit less casually than you like.

"Everyone needs space to brood," Felldrake says simply. "How else can one cultivate the feelings of fear, betrayal, and pettiness if they aren't allowed to dwell on them? It's simple Vengeful Thinking 101, child. I should know, since I invented the course back when I thought educating my minions was worth my time. What a drunken bender that was."

Hearing Felldrake talk like this brings a smile to your face. Well, you already had one, but this was, like, more natural.

You're going to miss him when you have to bail.

You sit in silence for a while. The thoughts seem to clear out, leaving behind only the ball of anxiety that is slowly building over everything as you stare at the smog above you. Just when you can't take it anymore and think about going to find the bossman himself...

When you hear his footsteps approach you. Even after all that training, he still has the stealthy footwork of a platypus clown. You hear him sit down next to you.

"Janna," He speaks up at last. "What's going on?"

You can't look him in the eye. Not after what you know he has to have done by now.

"Heh. Just relaxin'."

"But what happened down there..."

You repress any reactions that bubble up. "It's not a big deal. Don't worry about it."

"Janna!" The boss finally snaps at you, like you were expecting. "That was a huge deal down there! A lot of people in Doofania will be angry at me if they find out I got handed corn a silver platter and I turned it down. So you will tell me what is going on this instant!"

Stress level too high to lie!

For once in your life, as you stare into the psychadellic clouds above you, you can't help but confess how you really feel.

"I'm scared."

"What?"

Stress Level too high to not elaborate!

"I said I'm scared ok?!?!" You snap, finally losing control of your cool face for the first time since you got to Danville. "I don't know what to do! I can't control any of this! She left! And I was mad. But I get why she left, because a month later he was everywhere! Everyone got suckered; or intimidated, or something! Every day I woke up wondering if someone would be coming for me next. "

The words just pour out, and you're certain that the CEO can't follow you, but you don't care at this point. This rant was for you, not him.

"So Max showed up and I thought it might be the end, so I start punking him, just to buy time, except he seemed fine, so I thought, 'heck with it, you know? If I'm dying might as well be a blaze of glory', and then I came here and it seemed like I might actually be safe, and maybe I could do something. But now he's here, and he's got his hooks in, and I don't even know why I'm telling you thi-"

"Janna! Janna! Stop!" He yells, breaking your momentum. "I'm not taking the deal."

You felt as if your world turned sideways for a second time.

"You... you're not?"

"No. No, I shredded it. The card too."

You turn to look at the man for the first time. You truly look at him.

You wouldn't have been able to hold back the laughter or the tears even if you had been at the top of your game.

"I... I need help."

And you tell him Everything.

------------------------------------------------------------

It takes a few false starts, and it's clear the bossman had a hard time following what you were saying, but you manage to get through everything, even if you devolve into random babbling about the principle and swearing up a storm that'd have the Head Janitor try to ground you anyway even though he wasn't your dad.

"So. There's an evil lizard with crazy magic from another dimension looking for your friend for some unknown reason. He's rich, powerful, and that whole quiet area in the Southwest where it looks like nothing's going on is in his pocket."

"Oh, also he can't be killed." You add oh so helpfully.

"Huh."

You barely hold back the look of disbelief at how he was suddenly the cool and unflappable one.

"Eh. It's not like there aren't a bunch of secret tyrants across the country anyway. I already know about magic, thanks to you and Grunkle Mal, and I've actually considered the existence of other dimensions before! I had plans for an Other-Dimension-Inator, but inspiration never struck."

He gives it some thought. "Might be time to dust those off, come to think."

Your head is spinning and you're not sure what direction your world is in anymore. This is the first time anyone has ever just. Not only not ignored this stuff, but that they've also accepted it too. The bossman... the Dr. actually believed you. You didn't dare let whatever mess of feelings show, but you have to look back to the cityscape again because it was that much of a near thing.

"So. Now what?"

Doofenshmirtz Loyalty Check:
DC = 100 - 75 = 25
Roll: 80
Critical Success!

"Now, we go get your friends."

You choke as he says those words. As you find yourself shuddering from the overwhelming feeling of knowing he actually trusts you, you can't stop the tears.

Thankfully, Dr. Doof never actually tells anyone.

Dr. Doofenshmirtz has turned down the deal from Toffee! Toffee now has an incredible malus towards convincing Doofensmirtz to do anything!
Your stress source, 'All alone', has been greatly reduced! Your stress levels have still risen to the point you can't take all actions, but you can still function well enough that you don't take a Malus to your rolls!
Dr. Doofenshmirtz is now looking for Marco and Star! He will be using as many resources as he can to find them for you!
Dr. Doofenshmirtz is now 'Preparing for war' against Toffee! It seems that this has become personal for him, so it'll be harder to dissuade him from this course of action!

We had to actually discuss it for quite a bit, since honestly we weren't expecting things to be this concise. We debated it a bit, and we decided that, given how much loyalty you accrued and your natural stats, it would have pretty much worked no matter how poorly you did. You guys have SERIOUSLY been underestimating how good your social skills are and how effective loyalty is.

Are you really sure about that? Spying on our employees mean uncovering their secrets. If Monogram knew about Kat being a mole in OWCA I think he'd try and get rid of the guy as soon as possible, he's not that stupid. So tell me, how does spying on Monogram himself, get us any closer to finding Kat? A threat he doesn't know about?
Kat is not a threat, he is a loyal employee, everyting is fine.
