I feel like considering the Quirky Miniboss Squad's occult is currently lower than the bonus Juniper could add to another person's occult roll, let alone Gomez' effective occult score, they probably just need to learn to gel together a bit in that unfamiliar field and almost certainly have the potential for really fast Occult growth

And then they can truly be like "Random Bullroar, Go!"

I wonder if we dig around LA we'll find Anne, or if she never escaped Amphibia, probably around True Colors. Of course we'd probably have to get super lucky, considering that's Doom's territory, and any digging we'll do will probably be about toons, so unless Anne is a major toons rights activist we probably won't find her that way.

I was gonna say maybe if we follow down the Cog quest line, find info on the possibly Frobot head, and then realize its from another dimension... but that's a lot of tentative steps for someone that might not be in this dimension, or alive, considering Andrias isn't sending cloak bot assassins after her, or at least we haven't heard of anything like that.

Little thing that came to my mind:

Since both "Meet the Robinsons" and "Darkwing Duck" are part of this quest, *do DOR15 and the Brainteasers (the mind-controlling hat *aliens* DW tussled with for a bit) know of each other*?

And if they do, what do you think will their relations be?

...Are those weird "Pod People"-like alien cabbages a thing as well, I wonder...

This turn after the interludes we should probably send Russ after the Phantom Blot to retrieve the odd object

Edit: Would you believe in my reread I completely forgot about Striaght to VHS

Hey quick question, do you guys mind if Mez provides Sycorax with some incidental information about DEI in order to get into Liv's good graces?

Does "Mr. Traumatic Backstory of the Week" want his employees to monologue about his life on his behalf?

Gee I wonder

No, I don't. I don't mind at all. Even if I did, I don't think it should stop you; Mez is a character with her own compulsios and ideas and the writing should reflect that. She wants to vent, she wants to vent.

DEI made headlines in an unexpected way this week with the arrival of English fashion mogul Cruella de Vil, who wasted no time in establishing a new dress code for the company. Public reactions are mostly positive, with many admiring the change in style and minimalist application of DEI's traditionally contrasting colors while still maintaining a sense of brand identity.

Prometheus Aeronautics has announced a stunning level of progress in its moonbase development, with massive strides being made in assembly of the modules on the ground. Transporting the materials skyward as is would be massively expensive, so many suspect that they are waiting on the completion of their space elevator before the base can be declared complete.

The final assembly of the moon base would be a massive step forward in creating humanity's first colony on another world, though some brief concerns were cited when surveys of the site took longer than expected, they were quickly assuaged when the work continued apace.

Cyberbiotics' latest line of implants has finally exited the testing phase. While the company has always been a leader in the field, most of their cybernetics have been of the practical sort, intending to replace lost functionality instead of leaning heavily into military applications. This all changed with the latest batch, with several optical and cerebral implants seeing stellar reviews despite limited sales. The main restriction on the implants right now is the price tag, as well as the willingness for someone to scoop out perfectly functional parts of their own body, leaving the primary market as the fabulously wealthy and incredibly eccentric. Prices are expected to drop in the coming years, but have not yet become available for the average consumer. Some have questioned the actual benefit of a $500,000 night vision eyeball that requires firmware updates when perfectly functional goggles sit at pennies on the dollar. [ ] Survey Local Super Population (Mezmerella)
DC 60/90/120/150
32+34+31+10+3=110

Liv has had Mezmerella (or rather, Francisca) assigned to the relatively mundane task of surveying notable Capes and Supers active in the San Fransokyo area. As of yet she's not been told why, but that is a fairly normal thing for a potentially assault-able tech company to want to know about. This luckily means that you also get her report. The following Capes and Supers are known to be active in the SF area.

Heroes
  • Peacekeeper
    • Themed on the nuclear missile, Peacekeeper is known for using an esoteric form of radiation emission from her black and gunmetal exo-suit. Attempted lawsuits from arrested criminals concerned about long-term exposure have thus far gone nowhere. Apparently all tumors have thus far proven benign, which is nice. Because of this, Mezmerella suspects someone is backing her; this kind of lawsuit only gets dropped if someone's tidying trails.
  • Stegmutt
    • Once a normal duck before a freak supervillain accident transformed him into a half-stegosaurus, Stegmutt is a dimwitted defender of justice who has found his way to San Fransokyo for reasons unknown. Known to be hard to halt but easy to confuse, Stegmutt has a reputation for causing collateral damage with his oversized thagomizer. Mezmerella notes that he was one of the St. Canard escapees, having been an accomplice to one Dr. Fossil.
  • NeoCortex
    • Neocortex is a psychic super with the power of telepathy, including over long distances. While technically a Super under the HEROES act, Cortex spends most of his time coordinating disaster relief, interrogating criminals, and serving as an easy way for authorities to contact other heroes in the event of an emergency. Rumors of mental influencing powers persist but are unproven. (Mezmerella circled this part several times in red ink on the paper she sent to you, with no explanation.)
  • Blue Tornado
    • Blue Tornado is a weather-based super known for his itinerant heroism, traveling across the country to fight crime where he wills. Apparently in Sokyo for the cafe scene, the sight of a freak thundercloud might just be Blue Tornado looking for a decent latte.
  • Fredzilla
    • Clad in a massive red dragon costume that grants superior strength, jumping power, and flaming breath, Fredzilla is known as one of the most prolific (and exuberant) forces on the heroic scene, known for full-throated approval of the super lifestyle. Always open for teamups. Mezmerella didn't leave any actual notes, but there are a lot of erased pencil indents on this file.
  • Cro Magno
    • An individual of questionable heroism, Cro Magno appears by all accounts to be a resurrected cave-man with increased strength, limited strategic planning, and regular rages. Cro Magno claims to be a crusader against the evils of modernity, and to be fighting at the behest of an individual he calls 'Boss'. Team-up attempts with Stegmutt came to a crashing halt when it became clear that dinosaurs and cavemen did not actually cohabitate.

Villains
  • Tomokiri
    • Infamous as a Yakuza enforcer on Good Luck Alley, Tomokiri has taken the underworld by storm in recent years as Yama's new top enforcer, supposedly challenging the Fujitas themselves. Known for being ruthless, driven, and continually ambitious. With a lithe figure, vocoder and opaque visor, Tomokiri's identity is a mystery. In the margins, Mezmerella posits the possibility that Tomokiri is, in fact, a robot, either piloted by an AI or by remote control.
  • Momakase
    • Twenty-time champion on Food Wars, Momakase is a combat chef and thief for hire par excellence. Low tolerance for annoying employers, especially if their rivals are paying better. Mez notes that she fights in an underground cooking competition from time to time, being one of three champions who swap the belt between them.
  • Fujitas
    • Historically the top enforcers for Yama's outfit, and still understood to be in high regard. Kaminari, Ame, and Inazuma form a terrifying trio of roller derby brawlers that few would care to face.
  • Downbeat
    • Techno-beat villain with an RGB on white theme, flight, and energy blasts, all tied to a symphonic music track she mixes on the fly to arrange her powers. Primarily money-seeking. Known nemesis of Peacekeeper. Mezmerella has filled the margins of her file with a conspiracy theory on how she's able to consistently face Peacekeeper, primarily centering around the possibility that she is a super pretending to be a tech cape, is actually a paid actor, or is being swapped out by some shadowy organization to keep up with the radiation poisoning that may or may not be happening.
  • Baron Von Steamer
    • Geriatric steampunk villain and former nemesis of Boss Awesome, unquestionably Sokyo's greatest hero. Known for being extremely loud in his anachronism, declarations of evil, and declarations of anachronism.
  • Globby
    • Horrible goo-man known to commit sporadic crimes with even more sporadic competency. Usually a pretty cool guy to be around. Rumored to be involved with some unknown outfit. Not Yakuza affiliated. Mezmerella notes that the source of his powers is undetermined.
  • High Voltage
    • Mother-Daughter lighting dancers and 90s-glam dream, High Voltage engaged in petty but stylish thievery until their unexplained disappearance over a year ago. Juniper was noted as having left the area after the loudest, wildest, most well covered tabloidesque breakup to grace the super news cycle in years. There were fireworks. Literal. Fireworks. Considering I met her in DEI Headquarters a few months ago, she seems to be gainfully employed. The mother, Barb, appears to have gone quiet, dropping off the grid soon after.
  • El Feugo
    • Disgraced mecha-luchadore eternally seeking glory in the ring. Honorless rudo, and a poor one at that. There is a prominent coffee stain on his file. Apparently Mezmerella didn't care enough to reprint it.
  • Supersonic Sue
    • Contemporary of Boss Awesome and Baron von Steamer, Supersonic was known for her tech-assisted super speed that allowed her to complete crimes before anyone knew she was there. Semi-retired. Attached is a rough family tree of the 'Supersonic' dynasty, proud pilots, supervillains, and accountants.
  • Hardlight
    • A newcomer to the Sokyo scene, Hardlight is a masked villain whose sole motivation seems to be a worthy challenge and a good time. Appearing to challenge heroes and villains alike, Hardlight uses advanced energy manipulation technology to manifest physical projections, creating 'dungeons' his 'players' must solve. Considered highly dangerous and pretty nerdy. Mez has affixed the latest publicly available specs in military light-shield technology, noting that wherever Hardlight's gear is coming from, it's top of the line military grade tech.

Red Car
[ ] Litigate for Bonkers Bobcat
DC 120
76+22+20+20+5+5=148
Decent Success

You did not hear about the low-profile case of Bonkers Bobcat on the news. In fact, you heard about it from your bi-monthly Red Car report. Apparently his case was litigated by 'The Devil' in a rather successful way; thanks to the case being far enough out of the public consciousness and a substantial amount of reasonable doubt being provided, the charges against Bonkers were dropped. Doom is likely to have intervened to keep this unfavorable result out of the public eye, and the Red Car did not have the resources to contest him on the matter.

The Devil reported an extensive degree of attempted court-packing by a group of bribed kangaroo jurors, and an attempted appeal to a higher court that was just barely dismissed- the legal battle was unquestionably the fight of his life and has raised his (admittedly dismal) public profile considerably.

While Bonkers has been exonerated of any wrongdoing, many questions remain, and Bonkers is not necessarily popular in Doomtown even now. For his own safety, he has apparently relocated to Calistota. Russ took some time to see him off last week.

While the Red Car is understandably disappointed at your lack of intervention in Bonkers' case, they are mostly glad to have won their first significant legal battle against Judge Doom in a very long time. This is a public egging for the Mayor, who has refused all press questions about the case since it was clear his Kangaroo Court would not be put in place.

Outcome: Litigate for Bonkers Bobcat action removed. Minor opinion penalty with the Red Car.

When it was commented that no such position existed, Doom explained that a new position even less prestigious than any existing cop had been created just for him.

"That is why I am pleased to promote a new face to our fair city! I ask that you all give Commissioner Putty a warm LA welcome."

A loud murmur flooded the crowd at the announcement of yet another toon commissioner.

"Please, please, my perps call me Putty. Call me Colgumbo, Mr. Mayor, I'll consider it a personal favor."

"Very well, Colgumbo."

The new commissioner suppressed a shiver.

Cloverleaf's recent 'traffic-solving' model was thrown into a new light after a rash of civilian protests in LA, mostly focusing on the facts such as 'the cars never stop at crosswalks ever', and 'property damage from self-driving cars pushing other vehicles out of parking spots'. Judge Doom insists that their so-called 'right of way' is, in fact, wrong, and defying the inexorable march of progress. Cloverleaf has thus far managed to stamp out protests, but as successful as Doom's model is, it is being met with a good deal of unrest.

Farms across the nation were in shock this morning as the federal government announced the relaxation of a great many regulations surrounding livestock, in particular those pertaining to the use of synthetic growth hormones and antibiotics. While the FDA still advocates for a commitment to cleanliness and safety, the Secretary of the Department of Agriculture has noted that restrictions that have been in place in the past have had a tendency to stifle production, an effect that proved deeply problematic during the Famine. The fact that this comes at the end of a long lobbying campaign by Glomgold Enterprises is not lost on most people.

With meat production skyrocketing in response, the price of chicken, beef, and dinosaur is plummeting rapidly. Food production across the nation is racing to take advantage of cheap, unethically sourced, easily produced meat and meat byproducts, turning the already smoldering Franchise Wars into a roaring fire as more gas is thrown onto the fire.
