If goblin fox is gone now that means Kitsune is now our main Occult unit without a wander mechanic.

Which is good news since Gomez is now part of the black ops ball.

I still think we should recruit another Occult unit though. Kitsune is still going to be in demand for quests. And we have two Occult Actions so if we ever want her to have a chance to do Personals we need other people that can hit Occult dcs.

Heh. Two beings of unfathomable power make a deal to try to make a place to belong. For all of doofs doofiness. He is a being of unfathable ablity. Damn I want us to build on this. Doof doesn't know how to be a friend.. but damn it if he isn't starting to *try*

That was good, from the death of Tamamo to just how miserable she seemed to; I was hooked from start to finish. The fact she was going to kill herself instead of just run away was a shock.
+15 Permanent Kitsune Opinion.

Objective Complete: People Die When They Are Killed

Reward: +5 Kitsune Opinion.

Total opinion increase: +20

Doof gains +1 Diplomacy.

Kitsune gains +1 to Martial.

Kitsune gains +1 Diplomacy

Kitsune gains +1 Stewardship

Kitsune gains +1 Intrigue

Kitsune gains +1 Learning

Kitsune gains +1 Occult.

Goblin Fox has been removed from Kitsune.

Kitsune Trait Reawakened. Blood of the Third Race: This character is not subject to mortal limitations when gaining Occult.

Kitsune Preferences have changed.

Kitsune's Personal Actions have changed with her.
As for this; her total stats are now M23, D30, S10, I22, L17, and O24; she loses a painful trait and gets a far better one. The latter 2 we won't truly know about til next turn, and her loyalty increases to where on nationals she has +26M, +34D, +11S, +25I, +19L, and +27O.

Oh, that was definitely worth the wait. I loved the shifts near the end as Kitsune kept taking on different forms. And big ow at the "this is all I have left to give" part.

Simpler than expected, but not less meaningful for it.

I feel like we do that pretty much by default. Although I certainly wouldn't say no to some actions to reinforce the tendency.

Which should push her up into the next bracket. Excellent.

Every little helps.

Oh thank you. That makes her so much less problematic and so much more useful.

Wasn't even aware there were such limits. And given Malifishmertz has 38 to Kitsune's 234 I don't think it will matter all that much for the foreseeable future.

No details on these yet but probably good things. Both her preferences and personals kinda sucked.

That is very true. Though gathering the pieces of her former self possibly wouldn't necessarily be going backwards, in a sense? Perhaps if it were phrased more as using those broken pieces to help forge something new. Doof's an inventor, and he knows better than most that a broken thing's use doesn't end when it breaks!
I see Kitsune as the cutting of a plant, that can grow into something all its own once planted somewhere safe.
I do not see her as a fragment of pottery that can be glued together with other fragments.

Edit: huh ... there's an interesting parallelism between Tamaeno's last moments and this scene. I suspect Tamaeno was already suicidal when puck showed up and the flood of kitsunes was her malicious twist on the "leave a magic gift behind" impulse. Now I'm left wondering if the suicidal ideation carried forward into her splinters
I do not see her as a fragment of pottery that can be glued together with other fragments
We and our occult team could probably due something pretty neat with the rock though. Like make flying ray gun that makes people think their shoelaces are untied. That should be evil enough to satisfy the raw malice of the rock right?:p

Though more seriously, a ray gun that plunges people into a hallucination of their own traumatic tragic backstory sounds like a terrific anti-king weapon. And is on brand for both Doof and the rock.

Wow. That was... wow.

I'm gonna be honest, I was kinda lost on what was going on half the time, but... I think we just prevented Kitsune's "suicide" and then got a buttload of improvements for her. So, yay!!

I hadn't been thinking of her as pottery but now I can only think of her as kintsugi. I guess time will tell whether she's a plant ready to grow or shards of something that can never be reclaimed, but could be remade into something more beautiful.

I did the math with all of the DC and bonuses so far for all of our diplo actions.

So far, we've attempted 25 diplo actions.
Based on the odds, there is a 0.37% chance to have succeeded on all of them.
We've succeeded on all of them and crit on 5 of them.

If you factor in the crit outcomes, the chances we have succeeded/crit on the actions we did is 0.006% if you count the Russ hexacrit (6 crits) as just a regular crit. The chances of the hexacrit itself probably skews the overall results to ~0.0001% or smaller to have gotten the results we have in our diplo actions.

Keep in mind for comparison, the Flubber fiasco had a combined 0.27% chance.

In conclusion, we've gotten extremely lucky with our diplo actions so far.

We didn't really learn that much about who Kitsune is this update, as much as about who she used to be? But then, I guess that is the point of the update. Kitsune doesn't seem to know who she is, either.

That was one heck of an update! Very enjoyable read, probably going to be one of the more memorable ones.

And we upgraded Kitsune! A lot it seems! We even got rid of goblin fox!

......Hmm.

Goblin fox-inator: As nice as it was to help Kitsune feel better, as the evil CEO of an evil company, the impulse to harm one's enemies is not exactly unwelcome. This turn, one random hero unit must be assigned to an action that will cause some form of harm to someone. Any antisocial behavior or violent impulses is a natural side effect and should be ignored.

@Argidoll

Wouldn't the Vial of Brockium force the stone to return to all the Fox spirits they originally were though?
Puck is pretty high-tier and it's been a long time.

It might work and go to hell, it might work and only release one of the Fox spirits, it might fail due to Puck being that good, they might already be dead, or it might work but result in them passing on to the afterlife.
