Dunno...a *demonic-looking* being wearing *the Lance of Longinus and the friggin Crown of Thorns* (hopefully Helenas Nail is FAR AWAY atm - I´d rather not have Demona go "Alexander *Monster of God* Anderson" on our asses as well) on *Christmas Eve* is bound to generate a lot of mystical significance either way...wouldn´t be surprised if whatever happens that finally does her in (like a whole thunderstorm striking her down at the height of her megalomania *Bolt of Divine Retribution*-style maybe?) is the last nail in the Magical Masquerade´s coffin.
Capes are weird and the general public isn't going to know the details. A supervillain dressing up with an anti-christ theme is going to make people mad but isn't going to make them realise magic exists. The general public doesn't believe that Stanley is an actual roman emperor or that Genghis Khan is actually Genghis.

okay... didn't the prophecy say she was gonna fail? because that doesn't look like failing...

Whelp, looks like the magic masquerade veil might be lifted after all if this keeps up.
She's a goddamn moron who just tried to invoke a god to destroy a species who said god values more than literally any other sophont to ever exist.

Like, God placing humans above all other creatures is a rather explicit part of the Bible. Planet Earth is outright stated to be mankind's personal playground for them to "dominate and subdue". He cast out angels who questioned being told to be as servants to mankind.

What the fuck do you think He's going to do to a random nonhuman fueled entirely by hatred and genocidal intent against humans, and who not only invoked His name, but did so while putting her grubby paws all over some of His holiest relics?

Best case scenario, we're dealing with YHWH and Demona gets eaten by an armada of holy bears for threatening the Twelve Tribes and touching holy relics. Worst case scenario, we're dealing with YHWH while he's in a bad mood, and he decides to sink NYC into the sea with meteors.

Xantos. Why put the ARTIFACT INSIDE THE CASE! At least put it like. *under* in the floor or seal it in a safe made of something that would take her a few moments to open!!

Well, glad I dropped out of this Quest and only checked in from time to time, because this is clearly over. There is just no way in hell to turn this around that isn't a complete and utter Asspull.

Unless I'm completely wrong. Which I might be. Who knows.

I can think of like 7 just in this room.

Kitsune, Tom, Feldrake, and each member of the Manhattan Clan.

So she's not becoming God or anything ridiculous like that, she's just perverting some sacred relics to gain the ability to mind control humans. Cool.

Side note: this isn't even the first time Janna's fought mind control this year.

...under normal circumstances I would advocate returning those artifacts to the religious authorities but this is DVV. Religion comes up so rarely it's hard to think of how the characters or setting would react. I guess the Masquerade implies a "reality where not altered by canon" attitude so idk.

At the very least we could definitely return the Crown of Thorns to Notre Dame.

Yo. When this is all over (assuming everyone doesn't die) anyone think we should pay Magica De Spell a visit? Cause this could have all been avoided if she hadn't been so money grubbing as to sell part of the staff that could potentially end humanity to Xanatos, only to turn around and sell it to Demona instead.

Not to mention the Huntsclan... can't help but wonder if their idiocy was caught on camera by one of those news copters.
Demona ripped open the container with ease, talons grasping the object inside… and then snarled.

"WHAT?!?" She screamed. "What is this?!?!"

Demona pulverized the context of the box in fury, allowing a few pieces of what look like bark or twig to crumble out.
Did Xanatos stick a crown made of literal thorns into the box, so that Demona would get a prickly surprised were she to open it?

That's hilarious.
Seems like Kahn was definitely not the best choice all things considered, good thing we didn't send him.
I have to wonder... would the staff be more or less effective on him, given that he's 300% himself?

That sounds like something Xanatos should do. We're not his enforcer.

...I'm not implying we are?

I meant more in a general transgression against humanity kinda way? There's dealing in stolen and mystical artifacts, then there's dealing in stolen and mystical artifacts and knowingly selling an artifact that could control/end humanity to a crazed woman with a vendetta against the human race, just to make a quick buck.

Dealing with such a woman has nothing to do with being Xanatos' muscle, it's entirely because she's able and willing and has sold artifacts that are a threat to the human race.

Which I might have even been able to give her a pass on in a cutthroat sense, if not for her shitty business practices.

the odds of an Old Testament style response is rather low . The big guy following the New Testament has mellowed out due to his son.

IF there is a response and it is a big if considering how treating a direct religion one of the biggest on earth as a mythology and touching the most sacred of beings is a really hot topic. The response would probably come in the form of a (???) effect that either really helps someone stoping Demona or crippling her at an opertune moment.

basicly keeping it really vauge as to whom stepped in to assist and that assistance not being very noticeable. Noticeable enough that we from the fourth wall and maybe Tom and A few other might notice that SOMETHING happened but what isn't so clear. Allowing them to side step the addressing god issue while not totally removing the context surrounding powerful holy relics being used in a very sacrilegious way.

You know, counterintuitively it's probably a good thing that Janna can't cast magic without Feldrake. If she gets controlled by this, she's just Janna the Teenage Girl.

Who knows? Maybe next turn all human characters including Xanatos get a roll to resist Antichrist!Demona...after all, not all Humans believe in Christianity (or religion in general).

Please, uh, qualify that, thanks? It's kind of annoying for people to default to calling Christian God that while ignoring the multitude of other gods that are still believed in.
To them and usually people in the west are more likely to believe in Christianity and the majority of people on this site are westerners.

it's like invoking Buddha and using his relics and profaning him. He's even less vengeful then New Testament god but it's still a terrible idea.

generaly waving around holy relics and taunting the god whose holy relic is being waved around is a quick way to get smote in a religion appropriate way.

in fictional stories I default to Dnd logic with gods and try not to bring real life stuff into this. This a fictional universe useing fictional representation of real religions. The Catholic Church typically isn't nearly like how it is described in Helsing or DxD and Buddhism isn't how it's depicted by the monksin DB and other media. It's a fictional system that resembles a real world belief.

All religions are important and I personally don't care what or who people worship so long as said religion doesn't harm others.
