That was a pretty interesting selection of items for the second round here and we were definitely benefiting from bringing Russ here.

I kept getting distracted from catching p with the thread but the vote I was favouring towards the end won so I'm curious as to whether we might get either of the extra two

On the subject of time, I said I wasn't really a fan of starting the quest on an actual "year" from the get go. Recently, however, I went back and did a rough average of the years most of these primary source shows took place in. Removing some outliers, I got a rough approximate that's close enough to the New Tens that I'm satisfied with calling this "2016".

Consider that the year most of the world is operating under... barring many exceptions.

does that mean Big Bang Theory and The Walking Dead are the 3rd and 1st most popular television shows right now?

Because let me tell you.

that's hilarious.

Like. That makes Max, Vanessa and Janna young Millennial or old Zoomers. And that's really, really funny to me haha

Sure, but Toons aren't all (or even most) of the entertainment portfolio I was hoping we'd build. They'll have their place, for those nostalgic like Russ, as will Disney Animated Classics (since DVV classic is not and was never a thing here, and they're not toons, I figure the Disney Princesses' role as beloved movie characters is safe) and live-actions movies, but also Elvis for the music lovers, SPLIT/SECOND racetracks (possibly with Toon pilots for extra-destructive courses), dinosaur theme parks, a magic castle, museums of ancient, never-discovered archaeological finds, Wendy Wower and Science Is Fun programs, Ren Faires, etc etc.
I love that plan.

While the other villains are busy with their megalomanical power grabs, we shall build the greatest funnest society in the United States!

Edit: Oh, and we'd finally get to produce Doof'N'Puss, and the only executive meddling would be OURS! Take that, movie industry!
How willing are toons to break into different genres?
Maybe use them to start projects that arent comedy-related. There should be a market for horror involving toons. Just look at the success of Bendy and the Ink Machine.

Remember, the entire cultural zeitgeist of the world has shifted away from traditional western animation and it's been that way for decades. It's not just a matter of big bad Doom keeping toons down, the general public just doesn't have much of an interest in them. Trying to invest heavily in toon-centric things and hoping the public eats it up won't be that simple- it'll be a tough uphill battle. Imagine someone trying to revive Nickelodeons (the theatre, not the channel) in this modern day and age.
...theoretically, anime characters can become toons in this 'verse, as long as they meet the other reqs for toonhood. kinda terrifying, if you think about it.

Max, Vanessa, and Janna reflect the actual times they were living in. Not the illusion year that the turns and rounds are scheduled by.

You know, I never stopped to consider this, but Doofenshmirtz is actually kind of a Renaissance Man?

Aside from being a brilliant scientist, as well as a good musical producer and decent singer/songwriter, he's also (according to backstories) a painter, a poet, I think a sculpter, a world class cupstacker, a screenwriter for at least one successful TV Show (they stole his premise, though), and he plays multiple instruments.

The Doof is a man of culture, quite like his inspiration Victor Von Doom.

Kinda fitting, given Doofania's strength at this point is an eever-expanding variety of specialties and skills.

...you know, we have yet to talk to Charlene in any way during the entire time of the quest, which is pretty odd given she and Doof get along well and she decided to keep his last name, and is still theoretically contributing to our income as she did before we became the Supreme Dictator Of The Tri-State Area. Wonder what she thinks of...everything we've gotten up to. It'd be absolutely hilarious if Tobe's blind date happened to be her, or something (I don't think we ever did that interlude? did we?)

Alright, so at most we'll be spending 15 points this round leaving us with 12 left, or if we lose any items we'll have 17, 22, or 27 for next round. The minimum bid is 7, so I think if we win all 3 items here, we will have the best odds of winning what we want next round by going all in on a single artifact.

It's been a few years since I watched P&F, but the point does stand that it's slightly weird she's never really been mentioned given how friendly her relationship with Heinz is. my b, though.

I do think that it's a little funny that in order to make this multicross work, instead of trying to make everything line up it's easier to just have an explicitly paradoxical setup.

Just for the record since my plan won, I expect on average we will get one to two items in this round. 12 was a number which I was comfortable in bidding the Encantus with, so my plan just tried to get as many items as possible while staying over that threshold. So in the "worst" case scenario it's basically identical to Key and Ki anyway, since it doesn't have worse odds of acquiring the Crystal Key. So some of you might get what you want anyway.

Definitely. Same as DVV Classic. I have spent some idle time hammering out a unified timeline for that setting against advice, but glueing together so many time periods requires some paradoxical handwaving anyways. And I haven't seriously tackled the Britaincrisis yet.

I would be shocked if the Encantus sold for 12 points or less.

MiH would we be able to see the winning bids for items we don't get?

Unfunny Crystal Ball (voiced by special guest star Jay Leno)

"Welcome back!" The next item shouts confusingly as it's rolled out onto the floor. It's a green orb, about the side of your head, which makes sense, since there is in fact a head floating inside it.

"Well folks." Magica begins. "I'll be honest, I don't really-"

"Oh, Hildy, our Crystal Ball! We have to get it back!"

"We have to?"

"Yes!"

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Well. Remote viewing certainly sounds useful… if you can bear this thing.
Intrigue Check: Is anyone eyeing this item?
DC 100 needed: 71+14+38+10+5+7=145
Success!
One of the warlocks sitting nearby- 'Grimmy', you believe- is looking at the thing wistfully. He seems to be the only one in the crowd who's eyeing it with anything more than passing interest.
Unfunny Crystal Ball (voiced by special guest star Jay Leno): Won by Xanatos!
This seems to conflict a bit.
Did Xanatos outbuy someone else specifically because he heard it was a heirloom?
Considering Xanatos has a reputation for melting down and recycling magical artifacts that stop being useful to him and their natural state, that crystal ball shouldn't be making any predictions he can't back up. Otherwise his outlook his grim.
Even if they go all out, please don't forget that we own a megacorporation. Other than Xanatos, I doubt anyone in the auction hall can match our spending ability.
Speaking of which, have we considered just keeping track of who buys what in regards to the books then just using an action to buy it, or try and recruit whoever bought it? That or- although I'm not really for this as I don't like making enemies- letting Tobe & Crew steal them later if they really want the upgrades, if it's not Xanatos who buys them? If Xanatos manages to get the cookbook he's interested in, then we could just try and work out a deal with him to let us make a copy. I mean, I'd assume the magic/knowledge/value of the book/scrolls is/are in the words as opposed to the paper it's/their made of. If we're both going against Toffee, then it'd be beneficial to him for us both to have some good occult people. Just make a mutual research/group project deal in that we can photocopy the cookbook/scrolls and take that copy back with us under the condition that if we discover anything new with the material in the book we share it with him.
I guess he should better be crystal clear about his predictions or he'll end up bawling and rolling into Xanay's Special Melting Pot™.
...I'm pretty sure that the most recent plan was a Xanatos Gambit against freaking Xanatos.
