So how do we want to take Shirakawa down? I'm personally a fan of tracking him to his warehouse. Then we cut a whole in the rough drop in earbusters and mistarators. Drop down have Noburi drain anyone who is still up. Then we rob Shirakawa's warehouse and take him back to The jeweller

If that happens, you have to at least pretend to drop your guard, otherwise they'll realise you saw through the genjutsu and try something even worse next time.

I've no idea why it isn't standard practice in Genjutsu to make the target think they already noticed something was off, used Kai, and broke the Genjutsu.

What kind of person can survive explosions but not poisons?

Superman.

Why? For the poison (why do we need the poison)? For the team bonding (why does murdering a civilian help that)?
EXP, making a really good plan to kidnap a civilian for this is probably easier than making a really good plan to do our mission. I'm looking at this trip as huge pile of potential exp. I think we should prioritize not actually killing the guy and delivering him. If we could find some way to make it look like ninja weren't involved that'd be even better.

Have Noburi knock him out on the street, then take care of him "because he's a doctor"?

Ok, it seems like this is a good mission to take. I can think of a few possible ways to deal with this. First, some mission parameters. We'd like to deliver Shirakawa alive to the old man, and we'd like to not leave evidence of ninja having been around. The first is obvious, the second will help with Jiraiya's spy agency's secrecy. This means we need a plausible reason for Shirakawa to go missing to go along with delivering Shirakawa to the old man. Here's some ideas for how we can do that:

  • Stage a building collapse
  • Warehouse fire
  • Just make him disappear and see what happens
  • Pretend to be ninja who turn on their employer
Of these, starting a warehouse fire seems the most up our alley. All we need to do is burn down the building and put in a corpse that people will assume is Shirakawa, taking him out ourselves, and delivering him to the old man. Shouldn't be too hard. We can also always just go for the simple "Shirakawa disappeared in the middle of the night. Don't ask questions." which is also a good strategy. He probably is looking to hire village ninja or has precautions against hiring missing nin, and that doesn't do a good job of hiding our involvement anyways, so seems like a poor option. We could also just find where he sleeps, demolish that building and take him, though then we'd need a plausible reason for the building to collapse, and warehouse fires seem like more of a thing than "sponaneously collapsing building"

Edit: relevant: do we have any bodies hanging around in storage seals?

@eaglejarl @Velorien @OliWhail What does ninja presence look like where we are? A jeweler suggests a larger-than-average town which correspondingly could have ninjas patrolling, so...?
This town is clearly declining for some reason, and ninja presence is low. You haven't seen any street patrols so far (unless they're disguised or too staggered to notice during your limited time here). This is probably why Minami picked it as your first stop.

Hmm.... we could always make a silo explosion! If the warehouse contains grain, then making a macerator explosion inside should be equivalent to grain silo explosions, which happen occasionally. The trick would be surviving the explosion.

The trick would be surviving the explosion.
As it always is with you. :p
It had been the same when Hazō first saw it. Dawn covered the entire horizon. Its radiance transformed the totality of the landscape before them into something strange and enchanted, as if they'd accidentally stepped into a parallel dimension where colour itself obeyed different laws. Part of Hazō's mind wondered what scale of explosive he would need to reproduce this degree of illumination.
By the way. What scale of explosive would be required, Radvic? :p (I kind of really want to meet Deidara on friendly terms...)

So, current preferred actions to deal with the sidemission:
  • Investigate the warehouses
    • Does the warehouses keep grain of some kind (seems likely)
    • Is Shirakawa in the warehouses
      • If yes, will he be there for a long time
      • If no, where is he (look for clues, ask someone while disguised)
  • If Shirakawa is in the warehouse and there is grain
    • Have Noburi (carrying a warehouse crate?) and someone else infiltrate, and knock out Shirakawa (and possibly the people around him)
    • Take Shirakawa with us
    • Leave a fire macerator to explode inside simulating a dust explosion, and killing all the people we knocked out, leaving their bodies to be confused for Shirakawa's
  • If Shirakawa is not in the warehouse, or there is no grain
    • Find Shirakawa (potentially ask around)
    • Knock him out with Noburi drain
  • Turn in a knocked out Shirakawa to the old man

[X] Action Plan: Ninja stuff

  • Report to Minami.
    • Describe the potential mission to her.
    • Tell Noburi about the chakra poison and see if he thinks it's a thing that he would be interested in acquiring.
    • Brainstorm with whole team on plan. Accept critiques and suggestions, especially from Keiko and Minari.
      • Ask Minari if she is ok with us looting the warehouse to make it look like it was a rival gang that hit them
  • If we get approval to take the mission:
    • Find where Shirakawa and his gang is located.
      • Make sure to wear facemasks to protect identities at all times. Use Henge to alter superficial features only (faces, scars, skin color?).
      • Use Minami's bloodline prism to scout from a distance. Let team see the intel.
      • Have Hazō use Earth Release: Living Roots to track people.
        • Work with Minami's bloodline to make Awareness checks pass easily.
      • Get a solid count of the number of people in his warehouse, as well as any traps, escape paths, valuables...
      • Locate any open windows/holes/etc..
    • Have Noburi make sure Akane and, Hazou have full chakra reserves
    • Get a solid count of the number of people in his warehouse, as well as any traps, escape paths, valuables...
    • Locate any open windows/holes/etc..
    • Have Noburi make sure Akane and, Hazou is full on chakra
    • Wait till we have successfully scouted the area to make our move.
      • Drop Misterators through an open window/hole.
        • If no hole is readily available have Akane pick the lock to a window.
        • If no windows exist cut holes into the roof for each team member going inside. Use the forcce axe. If that doesn't work blow a hole in the roof, use explosive tags to make the entry point. Make sure to plant silence mines first. Regardless of which method of entry is used
        • Drop in enough mistarators to cover the warehouse
      • Have the team drop in after the mistarators are activated and
      • Have Noburi drain everyone in the building to unconscious.
        • If anyone has more chakra than a chunnin drop enough explosives to level the building and and GTFO
      • Quickly knock out everyone ASAP.
        • Hazou + Akane use nonlethal Taijutsu to KO enemies.
          • Noburi uses Water Whip + Vampiric Dew to drain enemies to unconsciousness.
          • As possible Noburi can also use elemental clones to assist others.
      • Chakra boost if anyone does not go immediately down
      • If the situation escalates use explosives as appropriate
      • Keiko, Minami, and Kagome stay outside to:
        • Prevent anyone from leaving without being taken care of.
        • Prevent anyone from entering the area and noticing what's going on
    • Loot the warehouse of all of its valuables. Only do this with Minami's approval
      • Don't spend too much time on this.
      • Remove Misterator seals from the place.
    • Kidnap Shirakawa
      • Transport him to the jeweler
      • Take Shirakawa in a crate through a predetermined back alley route -- Noburi and Akane carry the crate, barrel on top (Noburi to keep him unconscious, Akane for strength) -- away from the warehouse
      • When they need to cross the street, Minami sweeps for them with her prism, with Hazou, Keiko, and her making distractions
      • Once they're far enough away that it wouldn't be obvious where they came from, act as if they are couriers with a delivery for the contact
      • Get the Snake Poison.
      • Buy Akane a piece of jewelry. Only do this if mission is successful
      • Use personal funds
  • Move to the next contact.
    • Use Skywalkers, sleep in Skytowers, Hazou/Keiko meet contact. Same plan as what we did before.

Loot the warehouse of all of its valuables

I don't think we should do this. We're not missing-nin, so we don't need to act like thieves, and we might want to be somewhat concerned about angering the local authorities.

Oh, also, anyone else think that the jeweler wants to feed this guy to his snake? I'm pretty sure he does, because I'm not sure why else he'd want the dude either alive or dead.

I'd like to point out that our contact may have been compromised (like Hashimoto) and this Shirakawa guy is secretly a -insert enemy village nin here- trying to kill off more of Jiraiya's allies by pretending to be a civilian criminal. Or he's been turned, either/or.

Anything is possible, but if I were -insert enemy village nin here- then I can think of many plans that would be superior. For one thing, our contact didn't even bring this up until we offered to do a favor for him.

    • Wait till nightfall to make our move
      • Cut a hole in the rough
      • drop in mistarators
      • Have Noburi drain everyone in the building to unconscious
      • If anyone is not drained immediately engage them in combat
        • If combat happens use chakra boost

My main issue is waiting until nightfall. Time is a factor... there's no need to burn the entire day just to have the advantage of darkness.
