What were the results of Noburi's immediate stabilization roll on Yuno?
The immediate treatment went quite well. Noburi estimates he'll get her back on her feet in around three weeks if he gets the time to tend to her. Even if he doesn't, she's a tough cookie and will bounce back in less than two months.

Ideally she wouldn't do any fighting, long distance running, or similar ninja nonsense while injured, but Noburi acknowledges that you're not in an ideal situation. Apart from physical pain, she should be able to handle that stuff with only minor impact on her recovery timeline.

Is Noburi going to account for this when determining whether or not he's comfortable letting Kagome cast Shadow Clone?
Actually, now that you raise the idea, Noburi thinks it should be fine for Kagome to cast Shadow Clone while under the chakra-smoothing effect of the pool. He still wouldn't want Kagome to try using the technique if you leave and the effect runs out.

@Left-Hand Mutant , @Sir Stompy

If there is a sealing failure, working on seals underground will dramatically lower Kagome's ability to run away. If there is no sealing failure, the extreme vibrations of a banshee fucker might be able to cause a cave in, which Kagome will not be able to escape unless he has Hiding Like a Mole, which he doesn't afaik.

Doing research underground seems... bad.
Doing sonic research underground seems suicidal.
How would you rewrite this?
Would "reinforced soundproofed cave section" do it?

Yay! Any chance we can see the actual roll? Just out of curiosity and because it feels very satisfying to see the charterers use a capstone stat that they grew so much in.

We used a BF in this cave system already with no cave in, seems fine to me.

Hazo's earth mastery does not seem to be strong enough to meaningfully shore up the cave. And Kagome probably knows better than the Hive-mind w/r/t selecting research locations. My phrasing would be something like this:

Ask Kagome to start working on Banshee Fuckers w/ notes

Suggest using Banshee Slayers to maintain opsec for the camp. Warn him about potential for cave-ins.

[X] Action Plan: Research and Pre-search
[X] Training Plan (Noburi): Ninjutsu Power

I'm torn on the two leading plans. On the one hand, Uplift really does seem like they could use some inspiration and I'm worried their mental state might blow up in our face if we're not careful. (In particular, I'm a little bit worried that Tenten or Yuno (who aren't part of core Uplift and don't have the corresponding loyalty) might decide we're real traitors to Leaf instead of just pretending to be traitors and act on that belief. Don't think it's very likely, but it would be very very bad if it did happen.) On the other hand, Research & Pre-search just gets more stuff done, at the cost of leaving off the inspirational speech that might be unnecessary once the team sees us working at maximum rate anyway. I'm voting for Research & Pre-search for now, but am open to changing my vote if the plans change or someone raises a good argument.

@Left-Hand Mutant I wonder what Yuno will think of the "kidnap Jashinists" idea.
Also, do we know where to find them ?
Dunno, she's getting pretty disillusioned with Jashinism after seeing Hidan be a hypocritical little bitch. And murdering Jashinists isn't even anti-jashin, it was the first thing Hidan asked us to do when we met him.

OtOH, it's not very timely or important, so... cut.

Done, thanks.

i'm still a h8r about recreating the chakra water with a Rune, but maybe i'm not a doubter. Noburi needs to see that researching stuff gets results and Hazo is the only one who can give him that perspective rn.

Also, it's ~guaranteed that one of the Akatsuki at the rift is Sasori, so "Chakra Shredders + Oro + Tsunade" likely enough to assault the Rift site. Or even just "Naruto + Oro + Tsunade + Boss Rush".

They know Naruto + Oro + Tsunade + Boss Rush is a possibility and are presumably smart enough to have people at the rift site who have a pretty good chance of winning against that.

I think it is pretty important (chakra sourcing), but support leaving it out of this plan; not timely + the conversation about it'll go better if we have a vague idea how we're going about it before bringing the idea to the team.

(Though I still think chakra-filtering runes might be feasible)

Rune to create substrate didn't pan out back when, but Earth jutsu could do it. I wonder if the most efficient way to replicate the chakra water would be a Water element technique. Not that that helps us.

I wish we had a better idea what kind of medical research was tractable, though.

Added. Thanks.

Can I get like a loosely abridged "This is what canonically happened in this story" summary of what's actually happened so far this arc? I'm not really following the chain of events so well, some stuff that I thought was offscreened hasn't been, theres some conversational stuff that seems like it's been repeated a bit, and this delve has apparently taken most of a month to do since we rendezvous'd with the team.
Same situation here, fwiw, down to not wanting to impose unduly on spoons- I'm not entirely sure how much we accurately saw/understood, how much was IC outside Hazo and co's perception/understanding, and how much was OOC a mess because of IRL spoon purgatory and whatever other factors. I think I have a rough understanding of events but I'm shaky on a lot of the details and whether or not specific things we do/don't understand are important.
Defining 'this arc' as starting from Chapter 671...

  • Flashback event, revealed in chapter 672: Noburi was promoted to Special Jōnin and made third-in-command of Leaf General hospital
671:
  • After fleeing Leaf, Tenten and Mari catch up with the team.
  • tl;dr Hazō did not tell the Toad Sages that Team Uplift was missing on Naruto's orders.
    • Hazō wanted to tell the Toad Sages that Team Uplift went missing on Naruto's orders, but he refused to do that unless the Toad Sages swore an oath not to reveal that fact. They refused to swear the oath so he didn't tell them
  • Hazō offered to teach Shadow Clone to anyone who wanted it.
    • Kagome-sensei did not learn it. He wanted it but Noburi decided he didn't have enough chakra
    • Yuno learned it
    • Noburi did not learn it because he wasn't sure it was safe with his bloodline
  • The team went to the Land of Wind to find the cave that Orochimaru told them about, the one that has a chakra-enhancing pool inside it. They found the cave but did not enter it.
672:
  • The team went through ridiculous safety precautions before finally entering the cave
  • The flashback scene above (Noburi being promoted) was revealed
672.1:
  • Having taken one or two steps inside the cave, the team decide it's much too dangerous and thus they\ send a bunch of shadow clones and summons to make sure it's safe
  • They discover that there is something in there that eats chakra and does it at range. They name it the 'chakravore'.
    • Shadow Clones and summons are instantly popped when attaked by this thing.
    • Candoru (one of Hazō's summons) was drained by a chakravore which resulted in the 'vore turning to stone. The kids take this as evidence that summons are in fact made of nature chakra while on the Human Path. (Recall that 7th-Path denizens summoned to the Human Path are not present in their physical bodies and are instead occupying a chakra envelope similar to a Shadow Clone. Humans who reverse-summon to the Seventh Path are in fact present in their physical body.)
    • They encounter a trio of chakravores. The things look like river otters except they hover and Noburi's mist-drain-based chakra sense reveals them to have enormous invisible tentacles stretching in all directions, presumably what they use to drain chakra
  • Yuno and Mari are badly drained and mildly injured
673:
  • The team discuss what to do
674:
  • Candoru was pissed off at Hazō using him as a disposable trap detector and has made it clear that in future he expects Hazō to be fighting beside him instead of hanging back
  • The team re-enters the cave and fights their way down to the pool, which is really a small lake in an underground grotto
675:
  • Mari is feeling glum about aging and the associated problems. Hazō helps her through it and no, this was in no way me getting my personal feelings out through the medium of writing
676:
  • The team investigates and discovers that the grotto is connected to a sprawling network of underground caves and cracks that are essentially natural tunnels. They begin exploring, clearing the caves of any threats
  • Tenten is mildly injured by chakra drain
  • Yuno is almost killed by chakra drain and is going to be weeks or months recovering from the damage done to her chakra coils
677:
  • Noburi says that he can help Yuno a great deal if he can do immediate care, but he needs to do it within a few minutes and he needs a safe environment
  • The team uses the Kagome-style Universal Problem Solving technique to return to base -- instead of moving slowly they run flat out, throwing massive amounts of ordinance in front of them at every step
  • Hazō and Noburi have a conversation
    • Hazō asks Noburi for medical training. Noburi needs to take a moment to process his own fears of being left being / rendered unnecessary if Hazō passes him by in his own domain, but he handles it and agrees to teach Hazō
    • Noburi says that he is ready to learn Shadow Clone
678:
  • The Hazō/Noburi conversation continues with Hazō using mild teasing to help Noburi process his fears
679:
  • The team finishes clearing the caverns of threats so that it is safe to focus on research
680:
  • Hazō and Noburi discuss research-related topics
  • Noburi puts his foot in his mouth with the ladies
  • Hazō uses Earthshaping to finish sealing the grotto off and, in the process, inspects some markings left by earlier visitors to the grotto, visitors who included the Sannin
  • Mari volunteers to let Hazō take all or nearly all her chakra every day in order to help speed his research and training

Prep days on the following, Kamikaze, Iron Earth, Kagome's Tears, Chakra Shredder, Activate-all-Seals-AoE.
Link to specifications for some of these? I don't know what Kamikaze is as a rune.

Kagome's Tears, Chakra Shredder, and Activate-all-Seals-AoE are all only good if the area affected is big, more like an air dome rune radius than an explosive rune radius. While it's plausible that they might go that big, I don't think a prep day will tell us.

2)Earth-Element Focus Rune
Suffuses the earth and any earthen materials within it's area of effect with earth-element chakra. Earthen materials within the range are more compliant and malleable to the user's earth techniques. Buffs Earth Ninjutsu by a modest to moderate amount (Suggestion: +AB, +PS AB or +2PS AB). Additionally, the earth and earthen materials are significantly less difficult to manipulate with jutsu, speed Earthshaping and Earthshaping related jutsu (QM discretion on what applies here) by one step up the time ladder with no penalty. Takes a decent amount of chakra to infuse.

Ah, I didn't quite realize that the Toad Sages thought that Noburi turned traitor.

I'm inclined to take the OPSEC risk and tell them. I trust them to be responsible, and having them be able to point at a Capacitor Rune and say "yes Noburi can drain that" is too good to ignore. That would solve all of our chakra shortage problems.

EDIT: Noburi thinks that coming to them with something major would help. Maybe if we get progress on understanding the Great Seal we could use that?

ARR

Rune

Activated Relay Rune, automatically pairs to and then activates all seals inside its (vast) range. The runic version of MARS.

Kamikaze

Rune

The original meaning of the Japanese word kamikaze is "divine wind", often referred to in reference to the storms that sank the two great Mongol invasion fleets in the 13th century. This is the wind that will destroy Akatsuki.

A Superchiller rune, but a fail-safe one that's either designed to burn out before it can be destroyed by the winds, be destroyed and not fail, or hardened to resist them.
