Except, those fingers were awfully weak. Hazō didn't close his eyes, but he focused inwards and stabilized his chakra. He couldn't feel how they were draining him, but he could tell when the drain suddenly slowed. Compared to the onslaught of reintegrating chakra from a shadow clone, even compared to Noburi's drain… the chakravores were weak.
Toss another entry onto the list of "Times Hazou was saved by his sky-high Resolve".

Noburi question: How long do we have to get to camp to treat Yuno's injuries properly (game mechanic: get shifts reduction on the severe via prompt treatment)?
@eaglejarl @Velorien, @Paperclipped

Since there was no ping. Also, are you guys planning on keeping the prompt treatment rules? I know Paper is on the fence. If you feel it's too OP you could nerf it some. Lower the TN/shift reduction or increase the shift cost.

We should just Earthshape Hazou's face into the ceiling.

Might as well use ES 50 for style points since we're not getting much combat use out of it ever :V

Though, if you have reasonably high-level questions about how the combat went, I can try to answer them briefly if you ping me.
@Paperclipped
  • How was Hazō's dodging ability/were there any close calls? How immediate is raising his Athletics?
  • Can we see a brief combat snippet of just the moment where Hazō got hit with a Resolve-targeting attack? 🙏
  • Given the precedent set by Kei's unstagation during the Darkness Cavern retrieval mission, may we assume that these two combats (which just about killed our strongest teammate) unstaganted everyone present? (Or, will do so once the "clear the cave" mission is finished?)
  • Are all the chakravores dead?
  • How fun was running this encounter and is there anything that we the players could do to make it more enjoyable?

By the way, look at how high Noburi can now roll at!

Medical Ninjutsu 60 + 14 (Vampiric Attunement) + 7 (Chakra Scalpels) = effMN 81

Medical Ninjutsu 60 + 14 (Vampiric Attunement) + 7 (Chakra Scalpels) + 7 (Invoke "I Will Be the Next Tsunade") + 7 (Invoke "Team Uplift") = effMN 95

Admittedly, he's only going to be rolling that high when he's treating other members of Team Uplift in surgeries that would be specifically helped by chakra scalpels, but still! Very cool!!
Well I'll be damned! Noburi might just have a chance to show off after all.

@Paperclipped @eaglejarl @Velorien
Would treating Yuno's Severe (either immediate-treatment or daily surgery) be aided by Chakra Scalpels?

Between Kei and Tenten, who rolled higher RW?
I don't think the rolls would reveal this, so HDK.

Also did Tenten show any cool combat stuff or just the traditional draw+throw that RW users do?
Just traditional draw-and-throw. No beasts in here were remotely close to dodging any of her attacks.

How was Hazō's dodging ability/were there any close calls?
Hazou did not roll Athletics in any of the combats in this chapter. He mainly used Taijutsu, Alertness, and Resolve.

Can we see a brief combat snippet of just the moment where Hazō got hit with a Resolve-targeting attack? 🙏
Chakravore (Voring): ?? + ? (dice) = ??
Hazou (⅔ Resolve): 41 - 6 = 35

Hazou loses 24 CP.

Chakravore (Voring): ?? + ? (dice) = ??
Hazou (⅔ Resolve): 41 + 0 = 41

Hazou loses 13 CP.

Chakravore (Voring): ?? + ? (dice) = ??
Hazou (⅔ Resolve): 41 + 6 = 47

Hazou loses 4 CP.

No.

Are all the chakravores dead?
HDK.

How fun was running this encounter and is there anything that we the players could do to make it more enjoyable?
Somewhat fun. It was easy to run, since hordes of very similar beasts don't require much design, but the encounters were fairly mechanical as a result. The chakravores are interesting by nature, but I suspect there will be few chakra beasts that are similarly interesting to run against, so they're in a nice sweetspot of interesting/easy to run.

Fighting intelligent enemies will always be interesting/enjoyable, but also takes more time and energy from us to design and run them. It's always a tradeoff.

Also, are you guys planning on keeping the prompt treatment rules?
Sure, we can use those rules or something similar again this time. It makes sense for it to be valuable to have a medic on hand immediately after an injury is taken.

Noburi question: How long do we have to get to camp to treat Yuno's injuries properly (game mechanic: get shifts reduction on the severe via prompt treatment)?
Noburi says: ideally five minutes or less.

Thank you!!

Alright, who's excited for Noburi to get his Big Hero moment where he swoops in with his big-dick effective 88 Medical Ninjutsu?!

@eaglejarl @Velorien @Paperclipped
  • Does immediate treatment take the full three hours?
  • How secure is the area we are currently in?
  • If we do a reckless dash to the Kagome perimeter, does Noburi think he will have time to do an immediate treatment on Yuno (including any time it takes to set up Vampiric Attunement)?
EDIT: That first question was extremely poorly written, apologies.

What I really want to know is "How long would it take for Noburi to do an on-the-spot immediate healing of Yuno's Severe?"

Oh, and before anything more happens, I just want to register a thing I'd like to reveal later:
Code:
$ sha256sum message.txt

[X] Action Plan: The Better Part of Valor
Word Count: 299
  • We need to get Yuno to the pool for immediate treatment, we only have minutes.
  • Rebalance chakra. Ideally Kei/Hazou/Noburi/Tenten can fight and Yuno has just enough to defend herself.
  • Head for camp at a reckless dash.
  • Noburi and Hazou should be 2 Zones ahead of the rest of the party, if we encounter beasts they should clear them before the injured party members cross.
    • Kei/Tenten should support their melee party members from range. Tenten under instructions not to strain herself.
    • Yuno should defend herself but not act aggressively. Retreat if we aren't likely to be surrounded
    • Avoid any beast breaking out and attacking our wounded party members.
      • If necessary, maintain a Block on chakra beasts leaving the Noburi/Hazou Zone.
    • Be alert for tunnelers. If Hazou has the chakra to spare, cast Living Roots when nearing the uncleared part of the route.
  • Hazou should quickly get seals from the rest of the party -- his were ruined. Same goes for Yuno/Tenten if applicable.
    • If we're running out of seals (FB/RRBs/DEs) Declare that we stashed some ahead of time on the Seventh Path.
  • Once we get to the pool, Noburi is in charge of treating Yuno ASAP. Invoke maximally and use all his tricks. (VD, MS8, chakra scapels)
  • Spend the next day resting (until the Milds clear).
    • Use SC to read notes and to scribe seals to replace the ones we used.
      • Start studying mednin with Noburi, focus on chakra systems
    • Ask Mari/Kagome to test the water. If the effects are easy to adapt to, everyone takes a dip.
      • Observe everyone with VD, MS8, chakrascope etc.
      • Have unaffected people make SCs and test the effects on those first.
  • Head back out with Noburi/Kei/Hazou/Tenten to clear the remainder of the cave.

Are you going to give us the message file too or just its hash?

Edit: Out of curiosity, what is the character length of the file? I wanna try decryption!

How much later? My poor heart can't take the suspense.

Unless you are a major world government, you'd have better luck trying to factor 469800663261570274423368445641 by hand. I encourage you to try.

Completely unrelated, I have a awesome new rune idea:

Rune of Decryption
Upon infusion, this rune verbally repeats the input text of the last dozen SHA256 commands that were run on the author's computer.

The point is that when we get the final message, we know that it was prewritten and not edited after the fact based on new information by comparing the SHA256 hash of the file with what Paperclipped just posted.

And, as @Sir Stompy says, SHA 256 is a hashing algorithm, not an encryption algorithm, and is not meant to be decrypted. If you would like to try a brute force attack, best of luck to you, but it's unlikely to be intellectually stimulating.
