[X] Action Plan: Give Us TH Mechanics Now

@acidshill , maybe just a small ninjutsu that moves a pebbel? Having seals getting dragged on the ground is a begging.

edit: If this eventually leads to an Rune-dragging technique, then even if it's stupidly chakra expensive, Naruto could move the Runes himself? He has the Earth Element:

Naruto MotoyoshiBuyer studied his target for a moment, then nodded and flipped out a pair of handseals. "Earth Element: Swamp of the Underworld!"

Hell, maybe the Toad Sages should try to make that jutsu now.

Sand's Hatake Kakashi, less the Dog summons and plus social skills

I'm not sure how to interpret this.

Distinctive Kakashi traits, as best I recall:
- Values loyalty to one's immediate teammates particularly highly (not something I'd expect a Leaf intelligence briefing to emphasize)
- Has a Sharingan, via the only publicly-known successful bloodline transplant (Sand doesn't have sharingan, and the bloodline transplant was supposedly unique)
- Probably S-rank, but at the very low end of S-rank power levels (likely part of what they had in mind, but not enough to draw the comparison on its own)
- Pretty damaged, even by jōnin standards; affects a secretive and lazy attitude ('plus social skills' is evidence against this; not something I'd expect a Leaf intelligence briefing to emphasize, but maybe)
- Chidori is his primary combat technique (maybe she has a chidori-like technique? I have no idea what chidori is like in FtD)
- Dog summons ('less the Dog summons')
- Lots of elemental techniques, because of the sharingan
- Clanless, but part of the same teacher-student lineage as several kage (maybe this is what they meant?)

We really don't keep abreast of what's going on in other villages, and I think we might get blindsided some day.

Even in Mist, our former home and current closest ally, we have almost no idea what's going on. (Given how traumatized and generally not with it Utakata seemed last time he appeared in the quest, and that he got the hat almost entirely by Ami machinations, I kind of worry about a 'puppet with the strings cut' situation wherein he was heavily relying on Ami's decisionmaking and now she's vanished.)

  • A noncombat, modified version of Earth Rend (or Spine of the Earth?) that tills fields rough enough that civilians would otherwise find it difficult/impossible to work.
I interpret that as something that makes farming impossible at a location, not as something that makes ground flat so that MARI can be cast on it to expand our road network.

Besides, there's plenty of room to add the wording that I'm attached to directly to the plan as a new bullet.

Kakashi was mostly known for speed and a large library of ninjutsu (thanks to the Sharingan). That's probably what To Fura is about.

She is robably fast, low/middle (whatever that means) S-rank and has a bunch of good ninjustu.

Maybe the rest is supposed to tell us that she is more laid back than most people involved in politics. And the reason why she became Kage is that she is more open to negotations with other countries and an Ami puppet.

Actually a good point.I wonder if that means she is more willing to fight Akatsuki or protect Sand against any form of further damage?

On further thought, I mostly don't believe that that's what they meant by comparing her to Kakashi, since. I don't think Leaf's foreign intelligence is good enough for them to know something like that about her motivations/personality. So I would tend to assume they were describing about her build and/or social position instead, and she's known for speed and a large library of ninjutsu, as you said, or is clanless but part of the same teacher-student lineage as some previous kage, or both.

Apropos of nothing, did we ever find out what the deal is with Suiton: Ami's Ultimate Buster Bomb? Did Ami commision/TH it and Noburi sink 27 XP in literally just as a prank?

Did Naruto send orders to the Toad Sages for us? What do they say/what are the contingencies on them?
Yes, he did. The orders are coded, so Hazou doesn't know what they say. There are no explicit contingencies on the orders, just codephrases that would indicate to Hazou that it's time to open and decode the relevant sealed packet. Naruto has not yet sent any message to Hazou, so Hazou hasn't yet opened any of the packets.

Are you guys going to keep the TH mechanics that Asuma spoke about where the ostentatiousness of the ninjutsu name affects its actual stats?
Hazou knows that the choice of name needs to correspond to the jutsu, which is why ninja have jutsu with human-readable names at all.

There have been some ideas tossed around the thread about using hybrid seal/rune effects. For example, this wormhole beacon and this mirror beacon. What does Hazou think about doing this? Using a seal as a beacon for a rune.
The first link doesn't lead to a wormhole beacon rune idea. The second seems plausible, Hazou would be willing to put a prep day on it.

For the purposes of planning out our multithreading, how does the TH teaching and the work on our first TH project overlap? That is -- currently we spend 3 training blocks per day learning TH, how many more (if any) will we need to devote to researching our project?
No additional training blocks are required.

Whoops sorry, here it is. My links must have got crossed.
Wormhole Beacon
Seal

When activated, this seal visibly does nothing. It strictly serves as a beacon for the Wormhole Strike rune to target. It may be activated for longer for its effects to last longer.

Wormhole Strike
Rune

This rune may be paired with a Wormhole Beacon seal nearby. While this rune is active, if the Wormhole Beacon seal is activated, the Wormhole Strike rune creates a portal in space through which chakra, seals, people, and other extreme effects may pass briefly, or longer if the activation is channeled, as mentioned above. Anything that passes through this and is not through when its effect ends is jettisoned to one side of it at speed commiserate to how much was left inside. (Recommendations against testing this thoroughly are obvious.)

This portal is created two zones away from the rune perpendicular to it, and ignores terrain; if created within something, then the insides of that something are exposed to the outside.

Its range is to the tune of miles.
Would Hazou need 1 or 2 prep days to figure this out?

Yes, but there's clearly apparently more to it than just that. Something that would have a clear impact on the actual strength of the ninjutsu, even.

"Sir," Hazō said, nodding. "First proposal: Can we create a superior version of Elemental Mastery that outcompetes the existing one that Isan uses? Longer duration, cheaper chakra cost, better temperature control… there are many ways in which a technique could exceed the performance of Elemental Mastery as-is, never mind if it were a seal! So long as our 'superior' version doesn't have the unusual edge-case behavior that Elemental Mastery does."

Asuma shook his head. "A seal can't replace a ninjutsu. But a better version of the ninjutsu? Perhaps…" Asuma trailed off, stroking his goatee. "I could imagine some ways it could be improved. Even changing the name to something less cheeky should give it a little more juice to work with. The chakra manipulations need to be kept simple, of course. It won't spread if it's harder to learn than the original, and people just stick with their old-fashioned room-heater."

Would you mind elaborating on what Hazō knows about this subject?

As another idea for an initial TH project, possibly overlapping with tilling, how about something that flattens the earth's surface? Potentially useful for carving stairs into mountainsides, setting up terraced rice paddies on hills too steep to plow, grading-and-leveling prep for MARI road / walls, probably could substitute for lots of other labor-intensive stuff (but nothing particularly high-skill, so the merchant council is unlikely to complain), and potentially also breaching fortifications, but it's a very "natural" sort of effect - earth wants to fall down and lay flat - so might be possible to make it extremely chakra-efficient.
ETA: And permanently neutralizing Grassy Knolls.
My jutsu modification idea is "ES, but very short range and a lot faster". The goal being to make runecrafting faster. Right now it's so slow that we spend something like a whole day just shaping the rune !
So even if we can't make runecrafting combat relevant, we can probably win a cycle or two during downtime.

@acidshill please add this wording as an option!
Edits have been made.

[X] Action Plan: Give Us TH Mechanics Now
Word Count: <300
  • Complete TH project with Toad Sages
    • Candidate projects:
      • A noncombat, modified version of Earth Rend (or Spine of the Earth?) that tills fields rough enough that civilians would otherwise find it difficult/impossible to work.
      • Less Chakra-intensive MARI
      • A sturdier version of Mud Hut (more compact walls/ceiling)
      • Multiple Earth Wall variant that produces stone with a slightly different composition than the usual MEW granite
        • literally just slightly different in any way, so we can get veterancy on creating jutsus that create stone with specific mineral compositions
      • short (<5 cm) range activation of seals
      • earth-flattening jutsu
      • ES but faster and shorter range
      • telekenesis of rocks/earth (e.g. pull a pebble towards you)
      • QUASI
      • A modification of Earth Rend that is non-combat viable, but great at leveling ground. Intended to be used for NOBURI. This redesign(?) is teachable to other ninja without sharing Earth Rend.
  • Go see what Canabisu has to say in his debrief about his travels
    • Assist in his "rehabilitation" of Cantelabra
  • Attend the Gray Oak's taleswap for Canaut
