Nonono!" Hazō shook his hands in denial. "I'm not saying we give up. Now that we know what we're up against, we can apply the proper amount of effort to the problem. We'll go to Cannai and ask him to get his senior ninjutsu experts to help us. We'll get everyone's advice, and we'll figure out how to go from there. We won't give up just because we can't do it the Captain Hatake way."

"But Cannai… isn't he the Dog Clan Kage?" Atomu asked. "Canun-sensei talks about him like he's the Sage himself, only with floppier ears."

"He sure is," Hazō said. "And do you know what matters most to the Dogs?"

"What, Lord Hazō?"

"The pack," Hazō said. "To Cannai, you're one of mine, and that means you're pack. You don't hesitate to help one of your pack. You don't weigh the resource costs or worry about whether they can pay you back. You just do whatever's necessary. In his words, 'it is what one does'."

"I'm… pack?" Atomu asked bemusedly.

"You're pack," Hazō confirmed. "And this is a thing you need, which means we will get it for you."

Atomu blinked several times, then wiped his eyes. "Excuse me, Lord Hazō."

"Don't worry," Hazō said. "Sometimes these things are overwhelming to me too.

"Also, quit calling me 'Lord Hazō'

This is the conversation after both Atomu and Hazou failed to learn the dog jutsu. Please stand by while I look for the original conversation.

Edit: This was included back when we asked for an info packet/profile on each of the three when we adopted them.

Atomu is Earth. He's not great at ninjutsu, but while he's presumably not getting paid for it, he is keen to learn MEW after seeing what you've managed to accomplish with it.

Atomu gives you a weird look when you ask if he goes on missions, almost as if suspecting a test. He tells you that he used to be a scout and primary combatant before he lost his eye, and these days mainly takes guard duty and escort missions.
Atomu's missing fingers mean he couldn't try to learn MEW. He's wondering if, as Jiraiya's heir and a clan head with resources he can't imagine, you can find a way around that. (You can't.)

  • Rest, recover, talk to Mari about Neck
    • No good options, and we couldn't just let them go. Orders are orders, and opsec is opsec.
      • We couldn't think of anything.
      • It's our job to think of things.
      • We came up with the clinic, the Food Bank, with Skyslicers, the Zoo Rush, and several other things.
        • Why couldn't we do that, then?
    • We've been repressing it since it happened.
      • Akane needed our support, and afterwards, we were still in the field. We were the mission leader; we couldn't dwell on the order we gave.
      • Then, Snowflake deserved a Goketsu-style mission that didn't involve child-murder, but she ended up absent for half of it because of course there was a murderous crystal intelligence commanding monsters and summoning golems.
  • Administrative Work [can be offscreened]
    • Sanity Check with Mari
    • Mai (Mari-assist?)
      • (Tone: CCnJ) This is a suggestion, not an order.
        • We know that you have complicated feelings regarding ninjutsu. We respect that.
        • We believe that learning a new element, or maybe THing, may help give you a sense of power/control over that which once hurt you.
          • If this isn't the case, you don't have to do this.
    • Assign other Clan Roles [will link to separate post later on]

      • How's the growth of your spy network going?
      • If Atomu wanted to become a social spec, would you be willing to train him? We think he'd make a good Ambassador.
        • Atomu was one of the Cabin Leaders during the immediate aftermath of the Collapse and is likeable.
        • Also sends a solid Political Statement: Crippled ninja are not worthless.

Alright, so for the sake of clarity:

You're alright with the "up to level 20" being abstracted away (for the purposes of QM spoons), but you want to make some basic education in medicine mandatory (though well-rewarded)?

If this is the case, how would this look to you...

  • Clan Edict
    • Have Goketu Ninja learn basic functionality in Medic jutsu/knowledge (to improve Goketsu Clinic and Leaf's Hospital).
      • Incentivize/Reward this
      • Noburi trains them?
      • Exemptions...
        • Atomu
        • Mai (if learning Element/TH)

I would reword away the goketsu clinic and rephrase it as 'Increasing ninja survivability and improving healthcare'.

Once again, there should be no real exemption unless they are really incapable of learning. The rest is scheduling.

Hey, do we have a Consensus on who we want for what position within the Goketsu Clan? Or maybe a master list somewhere?

Hey, do we have a Consensus on who we want for what position within the Goketsu Clan? Or maybe a master list somewhere?
I have a plan for this... (will fix formatting in a bit)

I'll add some misc details later and format better when I'm back on my computer

[X] Action Plan: The Council Will Decide Your Fate
Word Count:
  • Optimize with Mari
  • Assemble ALL available Goketsu, including three yet-unadopted genin, Kei, and Snowflake.
  • Have someone recap what Neck team missed.
  • Neck mission isn't finished yet. Hazou will be looking to assemble the Part 2 team in a few weeks. Details TBD.
  • It has been brought to Hazou's attention not all clan roles are currently filled. Hazou wants to give everyone a chance to voice their opinions on roles.
  • Clan Head, Spymaster, and Administrator are filled.
  • For general, Hazou nominates yuno. Anyone who's seen her fight probably agrees. If anyone else volunteers hear them out, then vote.
  • For diplomat, many of you are a great choice. Hazou would like to nominate Atomu. He is an exemplary clansmen with a good attitude. However, he may experience bigotry in the role. If he doesn't want that, Hazou understands, but the Goketsu will support him against bigotry if he accepts. It will send a powerful message to other injured ninja. Hear out other volunteers and vote.
  • Take volunteers and votes for Ambassador. Hazou cares about them all, but on occasion his awareness for supremely obvious things is as dull as the rocks he shapes. It's very important to have someone checking on needs of their clansmen so they can bonk Hazou on the head if he's missing something.
  • Take volunteers and votes for Treasurer. Kei and Gaku have been handing this but it's really a full-time job with all the random income streams of the Goketsu. Possibilities include Kagome, Snowflake, Reo, and anyone who's good with numbers really.

I know the QMs have said that we can't link to other plans in the past. Under those circumstances, the context was more "once finished, do linked plan," but I'd rather not muddy the waters with exceptions and raise potential spoon costs higher.

Would you be okay if I made a separate candidate post that lifted from your action plan? Or would you be okay making a separate post to that effect?

What? My plan doesn't link to anything, I was saying you should vote for it :V

You can include your own selections if you want, I kind of would rather this happen on-screen personally.

Also, Velorien said it's alright if we vote in the sealing project itself separately, so long as part of the action plan includes doing sealing research

[x] Seal Research Project: Jiraiya's Pillar Seals (Both Variants)

I have been led to believe these were given to us by kagome back when hazou was still genin-tier, thinking that they were within genin-sealing Hazou's capabilities. I don't see any official statements anywhere so I'll leave that to QM discretion.

I think that, while it's cool to assemble the clansmen like that, we shouldn't out ourselves as looking at Atomu for roles without his go-ahead first. It seems... a little rude, in a way it needn't be.

Mmm, I don't really agree, in the same way that nominating them for adoption without telling them in advance went over fine. But it's easy enough to add a line saying "Ask potential nominees in advance if they are okay with being nominated, don't mention them if they aren't interested."

[x] Seal Research Project: Improved chakdar

Intention, to turn chakdar from a seal with no mechanical effects into a seal that boosts Alertness and affects Initiative. As per the chakdar description.

Suggested mechanics: provides +Creator's Sealing AB to Alertness (affects Initiative)

Incidentally, there's a (hopefully) easy seal I'd like to research sometime before our next trip to the Honey cave: the Goketsu Positioning Seal, or GPS for short.

While active, it shows how far it's moved from the position it was originally activated at. Three numbers, shown on the face of the seal, representing North/South distance, East/West distance, and Up/Down distance.

It'll help us figure out the size and structure of the cave system without relying on (very bad) human intuitions. As a bonus, it would also likely be useful to Shikamaru for Leaf's skywalker aerial doctrine, which could buy us some goodwill or maybe a couple goodies.

(Speculation: If the seal operates by tracking its own movements as opposed to tracking a specific point in 3-space, it might even be able to escape the chakra diffusion problem in exchange for a certain margin of error based on how accurate its motion-sensor components are.)

Not now, of course, but I wanna give it a try before the next run, since it might help us be less lost in the caves.

Didn't we want to raise Noburi's medical skills, too? Or is that later on in the build plan?
Not quite sold on Noburi's training; I thought he wanted to work on medicine unless I am misremembering.
Still think he should get his medical skills higher, but good enough.
Mid term goal is to get mednin/medknow to base 40/40, and hopefully with some additional bonuses from VD stunts.
Assuming you want to raise them somewhat in tandem, you'll probably need to pick and raise a different 30 to the 40s first.

the next time Noburi goes out, it could save his life(especially considering his low stats)
You're calling his stats low?
StatHazōNoburi
Taijutsu/Water Whip43 (eff)50
Athletics40 (eff)45
Alertness3340
Substitution720
CR3050 (eff)

Why are we pushing people to take up MedNin instead of sealing? We have a giant box of publicly available notes for sealing and it has much higher return on investment than MedNin that is largely underpowered compared to it's XP cost. I'm pretty sure I'm missing something but def doesn't make sense to me
You also have lootboxes for MedNin and MedKnow.
Also mechanically, anyone can learn MedNin and MedKnow level 1 for a grand total of 2 XP, whereas Sealing has a pricey 250 XP stunt to even get started.

Is it alright if we vote in Sealing projects separately from the action plan
Once again, I'll point out that the action plan only covers a single day.
I don't really see AtoMEW taking very long at all. It's a minor modification on a genin-level seal. I would be surprised if it took a week.
If the action plan is one day, it may not be worth voting in any sealing work at all. Certainly you shouldn't ask for more than one seal.

Earth Pillar Seal -- genin level. It's not a particularly challenging seal. Hazō wouldn't need to prep and would have it done in a couple days, but the SSA headaches make that harder...

City of Pillars -- chuunin level. A little longer of a project, but rather easy looking, especially if the Earth Pillar Seal is done first.

Updated Clan Overview with Atomu being Earth Element
In case it's helpful, Reo's elements are Earth, Fire, and Lightning.

"The place is secure, My Lord," Atomu said proudly. "We've cleared out everything larger than a weevil and Reo used Earth Spikes to tear up the ground so that it would kill any bloodworms or such. It should be safe, even for the meatbags."
Reo is a dual Fire/Lightning specialist. Losing his leg hurt a lot because it meant he was an offensive type minus the mobility to survive a direct engagement.
