On Thread Etiquette:

I'm not going to weigh in on the logic of either side's arguments, but I will ask that everyone read over what they write and really consider if the words they used are polite and won't be inflammatory intentionally or not. You cant account for people's tolerances perfectly but at least try to say your piece without saying things that can be easily construed as overly dismissive of the other side of the argument, thank you.

Please endeavour to be cordial. :^)

I got some heebie-jeebies listening to how Yorri describes these famous (or infamous) individuals.

And my gut says, no.

Can i just say that I like the posts who say "no politics" or "bad vibes" or "we like yorri better" much more then those who try to argue weird interpretations (me included sometimes) like, that's a totally valid voting reason, you go random Poster # 65558858!

It is an absurd divergence, for the reason I listed above. Lodging Runesmiths in your Workshop is an extremely intimate affair, this dilutes that value.
To be clear, if Snorri or the Runesmiths doing it thought it would be intensely intimate to do what they were doing they wouldn't be doing it because that would be improper/disrespectful.

Karstah's workshop is more than just a place where she works. I understand that you may see it as devaluing the event, but they are not equivalent from an IC perspective.

The Burudin seems like it would come with some responsibilities and we have too much too do as is, besides I trust Yorri's judgement.

The runesmiths will probably not have access to the inner sanctum or the living quarters of snorri and karstah but they will be in a connected complex. Which I still don't like but most seem to so eh.

It's mostly the devaluing that I have a problem with. The Workshop is our home, and Karstah's now she has made her choice. Then a decade later we decide to shrink our home to accommodate people who don't seem to want to walk the walk between Okraz and the Workshop.

And the future options that were hinted as being unlocked by the choice.

I did not expect this, but the Burudin option is tough to make up my mind on.

No Loitering! Being too tired to move from your cart of personal stuff in the storageroom after a day of tutelage? Bah! What are these foolish youngesters made of these days? Beardlings, all of them. Guess its up to us proper longbeards to handle things for them, again.

This degree of separation is for the good. It quells noises about dragging them under our political banner while...in practice they're still hanging around near our workshop and Drakk picking up values by osmosis and intellectual exchange.

We ourselves have gotten useful ideas out of casual dialogue with the other learned.

...there is also FAR more room for engineers and other trades passing through to soak up the availability of runecraft and exotic wisdom than in our home itself.

frankly I'm sort of amazed people are going embrace and no.

If you're going embrace and you aren't joining the Burudin you're making a big mistake. :/

"Hey I know lets do this big political thing that will piss a load of people off, but fuck joining the group that's political and will give us leverage and influence to not get screwed from doing a political thing because I don't like politics!"

Okay.....

This seems to be a persistent misunderstanding - being a member of the Burudin wouldn't imply additional responsibilities or drags on our actions. No one's going to try to boss us around or tell us to do stuff - it's basically a knitting circle of the oldest and most learned runelords, all of whom are notoriously opinionated and stubborn in their beliefs, and would not appreciate others intruding on their work. It opens up far, far more opportunities for us via networking than it possibly cost, and I hunger to supplement our anemic runelist with the good shit via trades.

Nah I think this is fearmongering.
Snorri was considering this before the Burudin offer arrived, its obviously something he thinks could work when he wasn't a Burudin member.
Now, being part of the Burudin might give us more freedom to go to extremes on the project, however its not a neccessity.

He also explicitly says that the southern lords will find a problem with it. Just because he didn't find the possible consequences too troublesome doesn't mean their aren't any.

Oh yeah, people will grumble.

But that isn't what I was arguing against:
If you're going embrace and you aren't joining the Burudin you're making a big mistake. :/
The difference between the amount of grumbling with Burudin and without isn't enough to make embracing without a bad choice. And there will still be consequences with the Burudin anyway so....

But he does have a point that is probably way fewer, the southern hold are much more traditional in their thinking and being accepted by a the Burundi would probably soothe many ruffled feather.
Both options are viable independent from each other, but they do have synergy.

I agree. Snorri has been alive for too long to be easily shifted in his opinion and "eccentricities" osmosis, and there is much to gain from access.

Yorri is brilliant but not always right on every single thing, and we are not doing him a wrong by joining.

My guy, who are you arguing with?
