On Thread Etiquette:

I'm not going to weigh in on the logic of either side's arguments, but I will ask that everyone read over what they write and really consider if the words they used are polite and won't be inflammatory intentionally or not. You cant account for people's tolerances perfectly but at least try to say your piece without saying things that can be easily construed as overly dismissive of the other side of the argument, thank you.

Please endeavour to be cordial. :^)

Let us found the Runeiversity!

Gain title, Member of the Burudin. Options Unlocked. Yorri is too plagued by his mysterious old hurts to see the truth. Accept Alric's offer, and join the Burudin.

Fine. Fine. If the idiots are choosing to be cheeky and finagle a way to stay in your home, they're going to at least pay for the privilege! It will require a good deal of work, and cost a pretty penny both in time and effort, but if it's going to be done, then it's going to be done right. Your southern colleagues may grumble and growl, but when have they not? You're over a thousand years old, they can suck on a particularly porous piece of pumice for all you care! Unlocks further options

[X] [Burudin:] No
We don't have time to be doing politics with the runelords of karaz a karak

-[X] Find new accommodations: In removing one problem, that being the overcrowding of your home, you have created another. Perhaps it is no concern of yours, but you will do what you can to find a way to house them now that squatting in your home is no longer an option. Unlocks further options.

But do we have time to deal with the pissed off Runelords of Karaz a Karak after refusing their offer to join the club on the very day we opened a 'runiversaty'?
then its a good thing we're about as far way from them as its possible to get and still be in the karaz ankor
less likely for them to actually show up to do their pissing and moaning

Have their been any good reasons posted for having a constant rotating cycle of strangers live in our home? Besides "Santa's workshop" memes. Because it's pretty much won but I don't really get why exactly.

and we can then lecture them on their dereliction of duty, its win-win

That is an exceedingly optimistic projection of how that would go IMO. An attempt to do so would likely earn us a grudge or several, keep in mind as old and respected as Snori is so are they and there are a lot more of them than there is of him. This feels to me like a political 'don't worry I ca take him' moment, only instead of one guy it's like fifty.

Elder comes to gripe at Snorri about his hotel.
Snorri gripes right back about the youth of today.

"These beardlings! They don't make them like they used to. Have them work for a few days in a row like i used to at their age, and they're falling asleep in the vault, as soon as they're out of my sight sight."

It goes on for long enough that there is no more time left in the day for the originally planned diatribe by the visiting elder.

And then the elder goes to sleep in the accommodation he came to complain about, wakes up refreshed after a good grumble without having to go outside to a more inconvenient location.

And then he sees Snorrism in practice
The workshop is just so busy, that having accommodation in house is as just common sense.

The second day of arguing, brings the topic up... But its not as heated as a dwarf with a problem.
In fact by the end of the second day, they're just grumbling about the wastrel beardlings again.

Turning to regard the Runelord who stares back at you in abject confusion, you cough into your hand and nod at her resolutely.

"You've done me a great service Lady Gilded-eyes, I will remember this," you say, giving her a nod and offering one last silent blessing to Moira before marching off towards your Workshop.
I feel like this has happened frequently enough that the other Runelords of Kraka Drakk are starting to get wind of the fact that Sometimes Snorri Will Have An Idea because of Reasons, leaving them all a bit befuddled until he explains sometime later.

I think its only happened with lorna and bryna. If Bryn does it a another time we can initiate a trade with her like with lorna.

It's partly because I want to do what the spirit of the Burudin was supposed to be. That of runesmiths gathering together and push each other to be better.

This is because there is no other place like what "Snorri's workshop" could become. NOBODY will be able to complain about proper protection for runesmith secrecy when it is all done under Snorri's home, because Snorri already cultivated a reputation of being paranoid about defenses, even by the standards of dawi. Defense In Depth will only work to everyone's benefit.

We've done it to someone else, I believe. Likely considered Just A Runelord Thing. And probably engineer too.

Doing a politically risky option while rejecting and insulting the people with influence in politics is a big no-no

Ok so it would be like we gave vragni the kind of clout we have.

Disgusting.

I mean there is nothing stopping actual Vragni from getting the kind of clout we have. You do not have to be as altruistic as Snori to get the kind of clout Snori has. He is an oddity in how generous and selfless he is, but generally speaking the main vices of the dawi, greed and spite, only get worse as they get older.

About the Burudin thing, while I'm unsure myself what is the best decision on its face it looks like joining has large benefits without real drawbacks(mechanical), except our relations with Yorri taking a hit.
If we consider this from a metagaming perspective it looks like saying no is an unequal option, this leads me to believe that the no to the Burudin option will lead through Yorri to something equal to consulting with the best runesmiths in the realm. Hence it's likely that Yorri, like the squirrel he is, sits on some of Durin's legacy(or something similar) and we may get some if we say no.
I just can't imagine that the No option doesn't hide some mechanical reward that would be of similar value to the Yes option.

That said, the real decision should be:
we want more interaction with Yorri
or
we want more interaction with the members of the Burudin.
