In the other hand, we have already been threatened warned that we could end up marrying ami, so I am a bit on edge
I'm think Vel was just listing one possible example of the way that things could go if Hazou-pilot has free reign of the conversation.

Besides, I'm pretty sure Vel was just joking. I think I can recall him mentioning that he was surprised/confused about how some of the hivemind have decided Ami's a possible romantic partner for Hazou. That said, Ami delights in teasing/pranking Hazou and Velorien delights in doing the same to the hivemind, so... maybe he wasn't entirely kidding? Has anyone checked the Marked for Death Doomsday Forecast lately?

SC Math for Chapter 396 (Applied):
@eaglejarl, @Velorien
By the SOPs, Keiko is training with 4 clones (with a little help from Noburi) and Akane is training with 4. With 3 base XP, the SC payouts are:
  • Keiko: +1.2XP (3 x0.4)
  • Akane: +1.2 XP (3 x0.4)
All previous payouts are accounted for.

it's all in good fun until someone puts on a youthsuit.

  • Ami
    • Tone: We're supposed to be equal partners, let's achieve mutual understanding to resolve this
    • Thank you for the apology message.
    • Does she know why you were angry?
      • We understood your hidden message, but the way you communicated it was abhorrent
        • You exploited intimate information about us.
        • We were shocked and panicked, fixating on how dangerous pregnancy for Akane would be.
        • You could've just said it outright, since even you admitted that no one was within earshot.
          • Pranks are fun, but the line between fun and cruel is thin
            • You're allowed to ask for clarification
              • Trust us, of all people, to be reasonable about weird things.
      • Cruel methods, though effective in bridging qualia, cannot exist between us.
        • Ami, if someone expressed this level of existential disregard for Keiko (especially for something as paltry as communicative efficiency) what would you do?
      • Normally it's permissible, because ninja. But we're more than that: family.
    • "Mutually beneficial relationship between two neutral entities" is easy.
      • But we're not just that, otherwise things wouldn't be so difficult.
      • We're something new, and that requires change from both of us.
        • Not repeating rote, old patterns because it's familiar/safer.
        • And yes, it's pain. Welcome to the party. But in our experience, it's so worth it.
    • If we don't exist in your priorities, this whole fiasco is just a result of us misplacing our trust. We don't think that's the case. Uplift aside, we're united in our shared priority in Keiko.
    • We would offer a peace offering, but there is nothing to offer, because:
      • As family, if she ever needs help, we'd help her regardless. Because normal rules don't apply.
    • You have a permanent seat at our dinner table, and an optimization meeting (at your choosing) for your… plan.
  • Keiko
    • Optimize with the Goketsu, Tenten, and Shika
    • We've noticed…
      • You're stressed
      • You don't seem wholly comfortable with the success you've achieved.
        • Would you like to talk about that?
        • We can (and will) list out each and every reason why you've earned the success you've gained.
    • Crystal Sisters
      • During the Engagement Party, Crystal made a mistake (Crystal propositioning Hazou)
      • You've been extraordinarily tolerant of our own blunders, even when you would've been entirely justified in turning away from us
      • Is there anything we could do to help our new sisters' progression as individuals
        • Failing that: we could be an ear to listen, as you vent your frustrations?
      • In the spirit of our renewed commitment to family...
        • Would be against us spending time with our new sisters?
        • FOOM can wait a bit if it means our family remains connected/loving.
        • What use is power if it means you're alone, your family neglected? Look at Orochimaru.

Once again I like the plan but the word count is intimidating. I'll try to cut it down some later, but in the meantime:

I think the Keiko scene is better off cut entirely. The ami section is long enough to be the entire chapter, and it also means we can put more work into a snowflake-centric chapter later. It would help the word count a lot and tighten the focus of the update imo

Good point, give me a sec. Minor edits made.

Since we're already over the word count a bit, might I suggest adding an invitation to do some Ami style training with Ami?
Sure, how does this look?

  • Ami-Style Training
    • Ami, want to join?
      • Disguise ourselves as another person. Convince five people that you're [the person you're disguised as] disguised as Hazou/Ami.

I still say we find a way to get Harumitsu to join the Goketsu. Is there any way for a clanned ninja to join another clan (other than marrying in)? Because I'm torn between using Harumitsu as a mole to subvert the Hagoromo, and just adopting him into our own found family and blowing raspberries at the Hag.
You will recall that Keiko was offered adoption into the Nara as an alternative to marriage. However, this was with her clan head's permission. Legally speaking, you could adopt Harumitsu without Lord Hagoromo's permission if he first voluntarily left the clan and became clanless, but you have never heard of anybody changing clan in this way.

Also, if I were Lord Hagoromo, I'd argue our deal wasn't fulfilled since the Hagoromo were supposed to gain a new sealmaster, rather than the Goketsu gaining a new clan member

I mean. It'd probably trash our relationship with Asuma, further sour things with the Hag, damage our reputation significantly... But on the other hand, NEW FAMILY MEMBER!!!

No, no, you folks have it all wrong.

We use the boy to chessmaster an internal coup in a couple years, clearly!

(Granted we might be able to just "No u" them by that time, but hey, you always need a couple well placed backup plans!)

Hey @eaglejarl , I was thinking about that game you said you do, asking people what it would take to accept immortality. Have you tried reversing the question, asking something along the lines of this:

If you were immortal, and you could choose to die at any time, what age would you choose to die?

If so, what did people say? I'm wondering if making immortality opt-out changes peoples' responses.

Wouldn't the civilization automatically get that advanced by the time you're a couple trillion years old?
Not necessarily, theres a decent gap between "living around dying white dwarf stars" advanced, and "fight thermodynamics itself with magic scifi" advanced.

For me, that would depend heavily on whether/when the problem of memory-limit of my brain would be resolved. There is a huge difference between "living a trillion years" and "living a trillion years while remembering only a few hundreds of them". Double so, if it is not the last few hundreds, but a random assortment, which seems to be the default assumption.

Something like a couple trillion maybe. After a certain point the universe gets boring unless a civ is way more advanced —scifi levels of advanced enough to fix that.
I imagine that long before that point humanity would either invent immortality (and society would evolve to accommodate immortals like you) or wipe itself out and leave you horrifically bored unless you happened to find and join an alien civilisation.
