Sealing vs Hacking

Sealing produces seals and hacking produces techniques. Seals can be sold, and do not cost chakra to use, or XP to become proficient in. Techniques cannot be sold and require both of those costs to be paid.

Seals can be modded by sealmasters and techniques by hackers. This means that the more/better seals or techniques you have, the more valuable sealmaster and hacker research hours are. We have J's seal library. Our best jutsu are the pangolin techniques and the deal with the pangolins stipulates that we do not try to mod their jutsu.

I'm not saying a hacker is a bad choice. It's a good one. I'll certainly push to adopt a hacker next year, or this year if we can't get a summoner, jounin, spec jounin, or sealmaster. But right now, a sealmaster gives us a lot more synergy with what we already have than a hacker does, and the economic benefit is something that's more useful to us now than it will be next year.

Come to think of it, we still don't the authority to do stuff with Mari's sheet, right? Or even see it, from what I recall? Are we completely sure we'll be able to tell a Jonin what to train? Or will that probably fall under being clan head, and we just can't do it with Mari because she was our sensei?

The issue is that the kiddos don't have enough experience to even guesstimate her skills in certain areas with any decent amount of accuracy. She's so much better than we are at certain things its just impossible to assign a range of numbers to it thats any more useful than "Jonin good".

Technique Hacker is more useful for necromancy though.

We aren't good enough at ninjaing to even tell how good Mari is at stuff.

Won't it be the same for any other jonin then? Maybe we should go for a high chunin or something so we can help optimize their sheet?

We can offer minor to mild optimizations with general description of techniques and skills and whatnot. Some stuff they might have might synergize well with stuff we already have or existing seals etc.

Anko might be a bit of a stretch in this regard. We can offer some stuff to a poison-user social spec in terms of optimizing but not a truckload.

On the flipside, we can turn Lee into a minor combat deity within a month or two.

Do we even know if he has enough chakra to use the techniques? For all we know he could have a complete inability to use them effectively, and a disability that prevents him from raising his CR.

I have no idea what "Lee's chakra control is awful" would look like mechanically, but I would imagine that it would have serious consequences for his ability to mold chakra. Dunno how effective he'd be with our jutsu, though equipping him with seals would make him pretty strong.

Sure, and that merits investigation before we would pull the trigger on a hypothetical adoption and/or doling out techniques. I'm just using him as an example assuming he doesn't have permanent CR 5 or something.

NOTE: I wasn't expecting anyone to vote for my example plan, but since y'all have....

I'm making one change: Critical actions should be done in order, others can be done in any order. That was the original intent, but it wasn't expressed.

@Kiba, @Dissonance, @Pharos, @MMKII

I was too lazy to put much effort into voting/looking at stuff so far this week so I just foisted my vote off on a bunch of folks.

I'm pleased with the results! (Assuming @Velorien does not banish us to the Naraka path for using something you cooked up, of course.)

Exceptionally awful chakra control is probably beyond the purview of how Fated to Die models growth and XP. That is, you could model the repercussions of it by saying that Lee would obviously not have high-level jutsu but would be just fine at Taijutsu, but there isn't anything implemented in the rules for 'you suck at chakra control so you can't level jutsu much'. If we were playing LeeQuest there might have been, but none of Team Uplift suck at chakra control so there was no need to explicitly model it.

Just make CR quadcost or something.

fuck my life I checked the word count on a whim and realized it was 350 words instead of 299. Edits made to shorten word count.

[X] Action Plan: Clanless Interactions
Timeline: January 6.
  • Prepare for and schedule meetings:
    • Dinner tonight (if possible): Nakano's team.
    • Tomorrow: Ino (lunch), Chouza (afternoon), Asuma (dinner).
    • Later this week: Shino, Minami, Keiko (regarding the Seventh Path), Minori.
  • Early Morning: Spar with Lee!
    • Invite Akane.
    • Ami-style training:
      • Sparring area: Open training field with 20-30 logs, placed upright. Ground is lava: move between the logs only.
      • Vary strategies: chakra-adhering to a single log; destroying logs; racing between logs...
    • If they wish, tell them about Gai's final moments from the debriefing.
  • Acquire some operatives with Noburi and Akane.
    • Consider turning mission-desk ninja (Ito Ino?) into operatives.
    • Look over Jiraiya's blackmail/black market notes. Anything work looking into?
  • Spread rumors with Mari and Naruto. Follow their lead.
    • Goals: Make the Hyuuga waste time trying to counter nonexistent plots. Bonus goal: make their allies actually abstain.
    • Ideas:
      • Hiashi insulted an Inuzuka who died at the Nagi island.
      • Hiashi plans to hold the Uchiha responsible for Itachi actions at Nagi, as the first step to vassalizing them.
      • Hiashi plans to disadvantage the Kyoshō to secure the Kurusu's vote (and vice versa).
  • Afternoon clan meeting: Discuss working with the Yakuza.
    • We could sell them ice/salt, or promise assistance against their rivals.
    • Should we work with Leaf's xor Mist's Yakuza?
  • In our spare time, scribe Kagome's seals to sell later.
  • Contingency: Ami arrives at the compound (sanity-check with Mari).
    • Carefully introduce to Kagome.
    • Discussion topics (Clan + Ami):
      • Spend the favour: "For the next month, have as your highest priority the maximization of Gōketsu's political power, preferably by working with Mari".
      • Establish communication with her in Mist.
      • Include her in our previously-discussed plots.
      • Akatsuki: They're an existential threat. Pool information, offer full collaboration against them.
        • Is diplomacy possible? Can we influence their idea of "pursuing peace the hard way"?

[X] Brilliant yet relaxed

*morbid curiousity intensifies*

I saw that post, @Oneiros :>

It was intended to be an example, not an actual plan, hence why it wasn't super ambitious. You should post a new version that's more in line with what you want -- the stuff I put in is definitely not the optimal stuff, IMO.
