Well, the following comes to mind:

I understand that we want to show our love and support to Keiko because she is a massive friggin' edgelord.

But have we considered that maybe thats a bit much for her to handle?

Hazou's heart can go pretty damn far.
Maybe if that's an issue we can scale up? As in, we start small with our projection and increase the intensity?

Edit: Or just say we don't overwhelm her, IDK.

Scaled down version seems fine; I'd still prefer to make the first attempt more about Hazou exploring the options than 'we will now convince Keiko she matters', but I'll take what I can get.

@MadScientist does this mean you'll re-vote your plan in?

Even the scaled down version? I was hoping the "to whatever degree she feels comfortable with" part would avert that.
I'm probably just overthinking it.

Do we have to include the word love specifically though?

Would "trust" or "accept" not accomplish a similar goal?

I would also be in favour of something to the effect of "The cold doesn't bother him anyway.", and whatever measure of trust, acceptance and love those words might bring to bear on the situation.

But, well, maybe thats a bit "memey" for some people... :p

[X] Action Plan: One small step
  • Hazou asks Keiko's permission to talk to Ami
    • He carefully considers Keiko's feelings and tries to be very thoughtful in his approach.
    • He won't do anything without her permission. It's under her complete control.
    • He would, however, like to hear what Ami has to say about what happened between her and Keiko.
    • If there's any hope of reconciliation, he'd like to try. He knows how much Ami means to Keiko. In family conflicts, it sometimes takes an outsider to get through to particularly stubborn people.
    • He hopes that Keiko might find it in herself to forgive Mari someday, if he succeeds.
  • Grab an hour-ish of Jiraiya's time, alone, if possible.
    • Ask him about Killing Intent.
      • What's the deal there?
    • Help us practice resisting it, please?
    • Ask Jiraiya to floor you with a bit of his KI as he is the scariest/strongest around.
    • Now. Get. Up.
      • You are Hazou, son of Hana and Shinji.
      • Just one man.
      • Jiraiya is also just one man.
      • If you can't stand against Jiraiya's will, how will you stand against the world itself?
      • The world is a ravenous, unfeeling machine, slowly devouring humanity. We are all its victims - civilians and ninjas, innocents and killers, the weak and the powerful. We all deserve more.
      • You must defeat it. And you can.
      • You took a mundane defensive seal, and let people walk on air with it. In your hands, a pile of wood and a storage scroll turn into a blazing inferno of death.
      • You will bring down every wall, shatter every chain, undo every barrier the world places in your path. You will find a way, as you always have.
      • You must win. And you will.
      • Stand. Raise your head high. Look Jiraiya in the eye.
    • Repeat a few times.
      • Try to at least raise your head and look Jiraiya in the eye without hurting yourself.
    • Ask Jiraiya for intel on our competitors.
  • Bond with Keiko and Noburi:
    • It is readily apparent that Hazou has less skill with relationships than a fish.
    • To rectify this, we would like to create a post-interaction survey to have individuals fill out, to get feedback on the quality of social interaction.
    • Hazou makes the above suggestion in his most serious tone, and attempts to argue in favor of it seriously.
    • He uses all of his Deceit to push this joke as far as he can.

Down to 298 300. Removed some redundancies, shortened phrasing but also reworded some parts so make sure you look over it properly.
(Also had to redo formatting manually due to google docs transfer being borked so keep an eye on that as well please.)

  • Hazou asks Keiko's permission to talk to Ami and ask about her treatment of Keiko
    • It's under her complete control.
    • Be considerate/thoughtful.
    • Sometimes family quarrels.
    • Ami means a lot to Keiko so he'd like to argue reconciliation between them as proof of concept for Keiko to forgive Mari.
  • Grab an hour-ish of Jiraiya's time, alone, if possible.
    • Mindset: Mentally prepare for the most brutal thing you've ever experienced.
    • Ask him about KI, what it does and if help us practice resisting it.
    • Ask Jiraiya to floor you with part of his KI as he is the scariest/strongest around.
    • Now. Get. Up.
      • You are Hazou Gouketsu, son of Hana and Shinji.
      • Just one man.
      • Jiraiya is also just one man.
      • If you can't stand against Jiraiya's will, how will you stand against the world itself?
      • World's a ravenous, unfeeling machine, devouring humanity. We're all its victims - civilians and ninjas, innocents and killers, the weak and the powerful. We all deserve more.
      • You must defeat it. And you can.
      • You repurposed a mundane defensive seal to let people walk on air and turned storage seals into weapons.
      • You will find a way - as you always have - and break down the chains and walls the world has placed on you.
      • You must win. And you will.
      • Stand. Raise your head high. Look Jiraiya in the eye.
    • Repeat a few times.
      • Goal: Raise your head and look Jiraiya in the eye without hurting yourself.
    • Ask Jiraiya for intel on our competitors.
  • Bond with Keiko and Noburi:
    • It's apparent that Hazou has less skill with relationships than a fish.
    • Hence we'd like to people to fill out a post-interaction survey to get feedback on the quality of social interaction.
    • Intent: Use Deceit and serious tone to push this joke as far as possible.

E: You seem to have updated your plan while I shortening a previous version. D:
E2: I think the changes only affected the Keiko part at the start and they should be implemented.

Given that "the power of love" is in the title I think it does need to be used or else we change the plan too much from what people voted for.

Well whatever.

You'll notice that I'm not voting for it, MMKII, just mitigating it without changing it enough to upset the people who voted for the original form. So if your argument is "cut the whole thing" then A) I agree at this point, and B) "No", because that would upset the people who've already voted for it.

As to "the cold never bothered me anyway"...

I would love to include this is a quest where that wouldn't have c͟o͍̙ͅn̹̞s̬ḛ̶̬̘̝͓͎̫q͜ụ̯ęn҉̣̱̫̠c̟͈̳e̱s̰̦̺̮͖̞̺.

@faflec, @MadScientist, @MMKII:

For what it's worth, I find it highly doubtful that we will be able to project any kind of aura at all, let alone an aura powerful enough to overwhelm Keiko, let alone an aura whose nature we will be able to control to the extent your plans talk about. If that was so easy that a talented low-chuunin was able to learn it in a day, it wouldn't be called a "jounin aura".

I'm even more doubtful that Hazou will have any success at all if he also tries to limit it "to a degree Keiko would be comfortable with". Try it on Noburi first, see if Hazou could get it working at all.

(I do suggest trying it, though. It would be incredibly stupid if it was an under-exploited skill that a talented low-chuunin aided by an extradimensional hivemind could learn in a day, and we turned away from it.)

Credit to @MadScientist for this one in the discord.

You feel the piercing gaze of a thousand eyes scrutinising your every action. Watching and rewatching your every slightest movement. Planning, listing, and endlessly innovating. Consuming every bit of data you display to Hazou's senses, and redesigning infinite schemes to account for the updated information.

They have decided you are evil.

Megalovania starts playing.

FWIW: I don't actually think this would have consequences. Removing any IRL context and looking at this in a vacuum, well, that phrase might fit a bit if we were trying to accept Keiko for the pessimistic little Murderchild we all love so dearly, right?

I object to meme votes on grounds that they get more votes than non-meme vote competing plans simply because of memetic elements of it, such as, in this case, the shounen stuff.

PSA: Everything is made of memes. The ones you notice are just the ones that haven't systemically infected your mind to prevent you from consciously noticing their influence. ...Or of course when you already have other memes that have done that and are now exerting memetic/antimemetic influence on the new memes, depending on how compatible or competing they are.

Memes specifically relating to doing things "for the lulz" (and detrimental otherwise) which propagate by riding risk-seeking / judgement-impaired behavior are probably to be avoided.

@Oneiros @Noumero @QTesseract it begins. Am I forgetting anyone else who wanted in?

Im not at liberty to elaborate, but one of the many Faustian bargains compelling me on this point is that I swore to rectify Hazou's relationship related idiocy.

I believe this is in the cards here.

@MadScientist !!!

Replace the Keiko section with a consultation of Jiraiya for dating advice. Ask Keiko if she would like to help us create a survey we can hand to potential suitors to give us actionable feedback after dates (or other mild quasi-personal social interactions such as getting a cup of hot chocolate or an instance of two individuals hdbwhcbjbfbebfkctn).

The shipping train starts now! Do you know how many safe-to-date kunoichi are going to be in Mist?! The entire Sand team is female! Kiri is going to be there! (Think of the bloodline based puns we can try). Our first round Hotsprings competitor is also female. Lets get to the romancing after we defeat her with our weaponized rogueish good looks and boyish charm!

Dont forget: we're trying to be nice to all the international ninja here. Build good relations right? Heres something actionable, decently reasonable AND memey we can do to do that. This is a rare opportunity!

The potentiality is here. So much chaos to be had! All in the name of SOCIALS and INTERNATIONAL DIPLOMACY!

This is the kind of "memevoting" I like; doing things that aren't obviously optimal, but make for engaging reading/writing and further our goals. I really like the idea of meeting/romancing a bunch of international randos. The survey is goofy as fuck, but seems like the kind of thing we could do with trusted friends like Shikamaru. Maybe try with Akane once things blow over, or Ino if we don't care about seeming weird/lame to her.

Wordcount is above 300, and I don't know how to reduce it without losing stuff I care about.

@Roomba cut the survey part? Or replace with bonding that's shorter to summarize, like "talk about our hopes/fears re: meeting family in Mist" or "talk about Downfall" or "trashtalk about winning the tournament".

Edit: maybe ix-nay on the family fears, since Hiashi's gonna be around and he definitely knows how to read lips.

Also, tag me on any future Ami plans ;)

[X]Proceed to the Tournament

I am not particular fond of doing the KI training right now. We are traveling to Mist while spending a lot of time with some clan ninja (including the clan heads), not the best environment to get mentally broken for Hazou or Keiko.

But about gathering information on our competiotion, maybe some of the present ninja have some intel of the ninja we face? Specifically the Kotsuzui (Blood clone) guy and the Minawa (Hot spring Wakahisa version)? We already asked about the rest:

Information on Kashiwagi is very unavailable. Information on the Sand-nin is also unavailable, but at least in their case that makes it likely that they don't have Bloodline Limits or family powers notable enough to be known in Leaf.

Also the only one we could tell others about or ask anything is Doigama who has his weird poison cloud jutsu.

Come on guys. @Velorien makes one joke and everyone panics. Before he said anything even the fresh eyes protocol was okay with the plan. I'll definitely not be voting for any plan that deliberately makes everything more boring and half-assed out of taking the Evil QM memes seriously. Because that's what they are if you actually look at @Velorien's superb chapters. At worst they are harsh but fair. Often enough they are heartwarming.

I'll be voting for whichever plans are left that still dare to be dating.

I believe at least one plan I have up dares to do some dating, and its also dares to be daring. Just not with Keiko

Sounds remarkably like how @Velorien describes the Fox in Lighting Up the Dark, TBH

GATEGATE!
You know...my sense of paranoia is starting to wonder if the hivemind will get projected if we practice KI...
Tangentially.....

I intentionally refer to Sunny Aunt Lady as different variations on Lady Aunt Sunny so that (hopefully) Hazō might eventually slip and call her something like Aunt Lady Sunny.

:)
Sounds remarkably like how @Velorien describes the Fox in Lighting Up the Dark, TBH
With how Hazō makes instant plans and has goals that seem completely foreign to everyone else.....

[X] Action Plan: MadScientist's Unmitigated Original

  • Practicing KI with Kei:
    • Inform her we will project our own feelings.
    • Project outwards Hazou's own soul. Not a will to destroy, but to support. Even under the terrifying pressure of Kei's KI, Hazou projects a warmth of (sibling!) love that will melt the ice and deliver her the spiritual and absolutely-not-physical hug she so clearly needs. If he's mentally sundered by the ice mirrors so be it, Kei's KI will not push away his support.
  • Grab an hour-ish of Jiraiya's time, alone, if possible.
    • Mindset: Mentally prepare for the most brutal thing you have ever experienced.
    • Ask him about Killing Intent.
      • What's the deal there?
    • Help us practice resisting it, please?
      • It's a critical vulnerability if some Jonin can incapacitate and kill us.
    • Ask Jiraiya to floor you with a bit of his KI as he is the scariest/strongest around.
      • Please don't accidentally kill us or break our minds though.
    • Now. Get. Up.
      • You are Hazou Gouketsu, son of Hana and Shinji.
      • Just one man.
      • Jiraiya is also just one man.
      • If you can't stand against Jiraiya's will, how will you stand against the world itself?
      • The world is a Swamp of Death, slowly devouring humanity. We are all its victims - civilians and ninjas, innocents and killers, the weak and the powerful. We deserve more.
      • You must defeat it. And you can.
      • You will bring down every wall, shatter every chain, undo every barrier the world places in your path. You will find a way, you always have.

Sorry, that was intended as a joke. Please continue to vote for things that will be fun to write.
That's what happens if you wear a face for too long :p.

For the record, I would like to state that while @eaglejarl is the literal genie par excellence, I have never practised QM trolling foreshadowing in a way that wasn't in some way grounded in the content of the update or QM discussion thereof.

@Roomba Getting close here. You can do it!!!
Adhoc vote count started by MMKII on Nov 20, 2018 at 3:05 PM, finished with 597 posts and 22 votes.

Started this plan then realized @Roomba already did something like it, so I stole his Keiko/Noburi section after writing what I think is a more sensible approach to the whole Jounin aura / KI buisiness.

@Roomba I'm onboard with Ami shenanigans but I think approaching Keiko as you have in your plan is ill-advised. I don't have too much time to go into this atm but the short version is I think this is both the wrong time and wrong approach with Keiko specifically.

[X] The Sensible Approach
  • Ask Jiraiya specifically about the Jounin aura.
  • In his experience, under what conditions do people develop this?
  • Is it something that can be intentionally cultivated?
    • It'd be neat if Hazou could project something that's almost exactly opposite of Killing Intent. A desire to protect, defend, support, and keep safe.
    • Don't laugh! This is serious. Remind him of how we felt when we first met Sarutobi Hiruzen. He was the Spirit of Fire personified.
  • Would he be willing to help us train resistance to killing intent via exposure? Would this even help?
    • If we could manage to resist the full force of a Kage on this front, some random jounin would not threaten us, and we'd have absolutely nothing to fear from Keiko our peers.
    • Not that we could right now, but it's a target to aim for.
    • Jiraiya proceeds? Hazou steels himself.
      • This is embarrassing. Jiraiya is just one man. If you cannot stand against Jiraiya's will now, how will you stand against the world itself?
      • The world is a ravenous, unfeeling abyss. A darkness slowly devouring humanity. We are all its victims - civilian and ninja, the weak and the powerful alike. Everything you have ever loved and everything you hold dear will be destroyed by that darkness. ...Unless you do something about it.
      • But if you cannot stand against Jiraiya, you cannot stand against the world. And you must stand.
        • For Hana. For Mari, and Kagome. For Keiko, and Noburi. For all the people of Leaf and Mist -- for all the people of the world, you must stand!
      • Dammit! Your nerves are iron, and your body moves by your will. By darkness unmoved; you will hold the line!
      • Now. Get. Up. Raise your head high, and look Jiraiya in the eye.
  • Bond with Keiko and Noburi:
  • It is painfully apparent that Hazou has less skill with relationships than a fish.
  • To rectify this, we would like to create a post-interaction survey to have individuals fill out, so that we might get feedback on the quality of said social interaction.
  • (Deceit) Hazou does this as seriously as he can to push the joke as far as it will go.
  • Misc:
    • Ask Jiraiya for more information about competitors in the tournament. It seems that Leaf would probably have dossiers on them.
      • Prioritize the teams' first round-competitors.
    • With any downtime, scribe more seals.
    • Go to Mist.
