On Thread Etiquette:

I'm not going to weigh in on the logic of either side's arguments, but I will ask that everyone read over what they write and really consider if the words they used are polite and won't be inflammatory intentionally or not. You cant account for people's tolerances perfectly but at least try to say your piece without saying things that can be easily construed as overly dismissive of the other side of the argument, thank you.

Please endeavour to be cordial. :^)

Either way, that is just a suggestion, we don't need to reforge the axe, but it gives me an interesting research idea where we find a way to remove the runs without destroying the weapon or when they are completely spent.

I'm just imaging Vragni goes catatonic as we discover how to peel off runes and put them on other stuff like they're freakin' stickers.

Thungi's Hammer really opens stuff for us. Especially with Khazagar being spring of Deep Magic which gigantic bonus. Not as powerful as The Anvil but still a potent stuff.

Wow. What a storm. Got busy with some other stuff and only now checked back in on this.

So. Um... Whew. I'm reminded of the beginning of the quest where one of the options chosen was to be given only a foundation. No expectations, none of the weight and benefits of being of more significant lineage. But without all of that you have a clear and stable foundation to build whatever you will be.

So now I'm trying to think if rejecting the Heir thing is staying true to that. Or if you can claim being Heir and still be true to that.

Thungni is the reason you can do magic so was still a part of that foundation. But does taking upon being his Heir and all that entails go against building your own legacy of what you built on that foundation?

Question regarding the war load out with the hammer in tow. From what I understand we can take 1 armour (Barak Azamar) 1 banner/cloak Skaren 2 weapons or 1 weapon 1 shield and then a gaggle of charms al la revenge ring etc.

These items create our set bonuses WTW combining zagrall, azam and skaren for now it's no issue if we replace the axe with the hammer but will WTW no longer be active if we make the true death axe and run with that and the hammer? Will we have to compress everything to keep the bonus?

More than that the original founder cannot actually teach all that he knows and he goes outof his way to remove examples of what he can do
To be fair, by removing examples of his work eventually time will make such things seem more like fantastical legends rather than fact.

And in doing so, it was probably hoped that later generations would be more willing to experiment and branch out from the traditional methodology

The sheer gap between Thungni's work and everyone else's would dissuade too many from pursuing alternative paths. And would be used as an example to browbeat everyone into only following Thungni's way/Tradition.

Of course this all went down the drain after the War with the Elves and every subsequent disaster which ate away at their institutional knowledge to the point that they were reduced to preserving what was left and trying to recreate what they had already achieved rather than expanding their knowledge

[X] Refuse the Title of Heir: [Cost: Nothing] Gain ???. You will take up this hammer, you will use it, but you are your own Dwarf with your own goals. The burden of carrying Thungni's Will, of being His Heir, is one you choose not to carry. Someone or no one can claim it for all you care, but it will not be you.

Edit: I would love a "what if" storyline similar to the drakk alt timeline for whatever choice loses, eventually.

Combo's only work if we hold the pieces needed to make them. If we swapped a piece of a combo out for something else the combo would decrease in power or stop working entirely.

I don't really feel that being Thungni's Heir fits Snorri. He's spent the last thousand odd years doing his own thing and I like it that way.

[X] Claim the Title of Heir: [Cost: ???] Gain title: Heir of Thungni, ??? You claim a position that has remained in doubt since Durin died. By Thungni's word, the hammer you would now wield confirms that you are His Heir. Elevating your authority to that of the Ancestor's eldest children, living or dead. You would not, could not be a tyrant of course, but still.

Changing my mind. Realised I was voting for Refuse because I wanted to play it safe, but I don't think that's the right approach here. If we want to make our mark on Dawi society and inspire others we should own it.

Being fair we improve dawi society differently with either votes.

Heir of Thungni is a social/Runesmith Drama arc where Snorri's ideals are challenged both WRT others and himself . And the reward for solidifying our ideals into something cohesive and proving it is that we can significantly improve the Runesmith Guild to be a proper Backbone to Dawi society.

Rejection leaves the Runesmith Guild to it's own devices and Snorri picks a path , most likely foreign relations, and we take risks to prove our way is the right way. It's more difficult because we're balancing relationships on external factors like success rate but it's simple because we don't need to challenge our ideals to accomplish it

Well it seems it is decided, no way Heir is getting 50 votes to catch up. And I think this is the most votes there have been here.
Dawi community really banding together

Edit: Also found this tidbit from your own arguments for claiming the title earlier, sounds a bit funny in retrospect:
Not at all, I freely accept you took the time to properly decide to vote this way. I just consider it a terrible character choice for Snorri.
no matter how tender, how exquisite… A lie will remain a lie.
