On Thread Etiquette:

I'm not going to weigh in on the logic of either side's arguments, but I will ask that everyone read over what they write and really consider if the words they used are polite and won't be inflammatory intentionally or not. You cant account for people's tolerances perfectly but at least try to say your piece without saying things that can be easily construed as overly dismissive of the other side of the argument, thank you.

Please endeavour to be cordial. :^)

Went back thru the art and most of the images are not showing for me, the memes/photoplastys are mostly there but much of the beautiful art of Khazgar and the artist Renu isn't showing anymore.
Yeah they were hosted on discord, which started pitching a hissy fit about being used as a filehost last year, so now discord-based images have a time limited cipher key on them- if the key expires then you can't view it anywhere that isn't discord. What host are you using now, soulcake? Id suggest filegarden, but you clearly already have somewhere in mind

Oh thank god its not just me.
I wanted to say that he looked like the primary romantic romantic interest in a dwarf bodice ripper. Appropriate for someone as interesting as Stonebread with Raisins.

In the heart of Karak Drakk, amidst the roaring forges and echoing caverns, lived Nain, a renowned Runesmith of unparalleled* skill. With brawny arms that could shape the toughest metals and a beard as glimmering as molten silver, he was the epitome** of dwarven strength and craftsmanship.

But beneath his gruff exterior lay a heart yearning for something more than just the clang of hammers on anvils. Nain dreamed of a love as enduring as the rocks of his homeland, yet he had resigned himself to a life of solitude, believing no maiden could ever match his quiet stoicism.

That was until one fateful day when a caravan from exotic Karaz Zorn arrived at Karak Drakk, bringing with it tales of a mysterious Kvinn named Eira. Whispers of her beauty and enchanting aura spread through the mountain halls like wildfire, capturing the attention of every dwarf, including Nain.

Driven by an irresistible curiosity, Nain sought out Eira, finding her in a secluded chamber adorned with shimmering crystals and flickering torchlight. She was unlike any Kvinn he had ever seen, with eyes as deep as a keg marked with the Rune of Everlasting Ale and a grumble that could melt even Adamant, if grumbles were also Adamant Forgers.

Despite his gruff demeanor, Nain found himself drawn to Eira's presence, his heart pounding like the relentless beat of a Greedy Troll's heart. Their initial encounters were fraught with tension, his rough exterior clashing with her rough exterior. But as they spent more time together, their differences faded, giving way to a fiery passion neither could deny.

Bound by a love as strong as the Ancestors*** themselves, Nain and Eira embarked on a whirlwind romance (of a mere four centuries), their hearts intertwining like the intricate runes he inscribed upon his mighty weapons****. But their happiness was short-lived as dark forces conspired to tear them apart.

A jealous rival, envious of Nain's newfound happiness, plotted to sabotage their love, weaving a web of deceit and betrayal that threatened to engulf them both. As tensions rose and danger loomed on the horizon, Nain vowed to protect Eira at any cost, forging alliances and facing challenges that tested his strength and courage to the very core.

In a final showdown against their adversaries, Nain unleashed the full power of his Runecraft, channeling the fury of the mountain itself to vanquish their foes and secure a future where their love could flourish without fear or doubt.

And so, amidst the echoing caverns of Karak Drakk, Nain and Eira forged a bond stronger than Gromril*****, their love enduring as a testament to the resilience of the Dawi heart. Together, they stood as a beacon of hope and passion, a testament to the enduring power of love in a world shrouded in darkness.

* With the definite exceptions of the various Runelords and Runeladies, and of Fjolla and Dolgi, and likely of Karstah as well.
** See above.
*** (i) Valaya is the Patroness Goddess of Motherly Love. (ii) Ergo, there exists love which is of the Ancestors. (iii) Therefore, it is not blasphemy to speak of a love "as strong as the Ancestors" themselves.
**** Actual weapons weapons, not the "sniggering laugh, waggling eyebrows, exaggerated wink" kind of "weapons". After all, it is a well-known fundament of Runelore that flesh cannot be enruned.

Hmm... I may have spotted another butterfly in the last turn.

King Grednir is a king who took the slayer oath.

Predating the OTL slayer king by several thousand years.

Although, perhaps it's different because King Grednir was more King-consort Grednir than a ruling king, so it's not really the same.

@soulcake: Butterfly or Not? Is this precedent for Kings stepping down if they want to take the Slayer Oath?

Eh, there was no mention of the canon slayer king being the only example of that right? So precedence could still fit normal canon.

Torn between his two conflicting vows, the oath of a Slayer to seek out death and the oath of a King to watch over and protect his people, Baragor was unable to fulfil either properly. In the end, good Dwarf sense prevailed, and he found a way to honour both his vows after a fashion.

It's a pretty unique situation, canonically.

I suspect the Oaths of Kingship he took were tighter than the ones Grednir took, since he couldn't pass his duties to his heirs and go get himself killed. Or the Zeitgeist about oaths was different, given it was post war of the beard and post time of woes.

Imo, the Slayer Oath should supersede all others, but come with a caveat that you have to set your affairs in order before you can take that Oath.

"The last oath you'll ever swear"

No mention there of it being the first example.

And the dude was more of a Consort than the ruling king, since Valka was the ruling queen of the place right? Or am I misremembering the places.

I think it would be the first example, because kings don't grow on trees, and if one took the Slayer Oath, it would be notable when talking about Slayer kings.
It would be strange if there were other Slayer kings and their oaths didn't conflict.

I also mentioned the situation possibly being different due to being a Consort, rather than outright Ruler in my original post.

Chat GPT energy, lol.

Title: Secrets of the Mountain Kingdom

In the heart of the rugged mountains, where snow-capped peaks kissed the sky and secrets whispered through the ancient stones, there lay a kingdom unlike any other. It was a realm of grandeur and mystery, ruled by a line of dwarven kings whose power was as solid as the rock from which their halls were hewn.

Amidst the echoing corridors of the mountain fortress, Lady Elara, daughter of Lord Dorn, moved with grace and defiance. Her fiery locks cascaded like molten gold down her back, her emerald eyes flashing with determination as she navigated the intricacies of court life. Though she was of noble birth, her spirit yearned for adventure beyond the confines of her father's stronghold.

But fate had other plans for Elara. As she wandered through the dimly lit chambers one fateful evening, she stumbled upon a scene that would change the course of her destiny. In a secluded alcove, hidden from prying eyes, she witnessed a clandestine meeting between the enigmatic Prince Thorne, heir to the dwarven throne, and a mysterious hooded figure.

In the flickering torchlight, their words danced like shadows on the stone walls, revealing a dangerous liaison that threatened to unravel the fragile peace of the kingdom. Elara's heart pounded in her chest as she listened, her curiosity piqued by the forbidden whispers that echoed through the cavernous halls.

Unable to resist the allure of intrigue, she followed the prince and his clandestine companion deeper into the heart of the mountain. Through winding tunnels and treacherous passages, she pursued them with a determination born of desperation and desire.

Finally, they emerged into a hidden chamber bathed in the soft glow of luminescent crystals. There, amidst a tapestry of shimmering light, Elara beheld a sight that stole her breath away.

Prince Thorne stood locked in a passionate embrace with the hooded figure, their lips meeting in a fervent kiss that ignited the very air around them. In that moment, Elara felt a surge of conflicting emotions flood her soul – jealousy and longing warring with a forbidden fascination that stirred her deepest desires.

But before she could retreat into the shadows, her presence was discovered. The prince's piercing gaze met hers, his eyes dark with secrets untold. In that fleeting instant, Elara knew that her fate was sealed – bound to the prince and the dangerous game of intrigue that threatened to consume them all.

As the echoes of their forbidden encounter faded into the depths of the mountain, Elara knew that she had embarked upon a journey fraught with peril and passion. In the arms of the dwarven prince, amidst the shadows of their hidden kingdom, she would discover the true meaning of love and betrayal, and unlock the secrets that lay buried beneath the stone.

Sleepy thoughts.
Do Dawi use lead shavings to sweeten their stonebread? Since IIRC lead was used in food containers because it was believed to sweeten stuff in ancient... Rome, I think?

"Astonishing news, ever since the High King banned lead flavouring we've seen the number of frivolous grudges being declared fall by a whole percent every year. Unfortunately this has mostly been offset by the number of grudges declared against him for souring sweetbread."

Tbh, Dawi could be immune to metal poisoning and I wouldn't bat an eye

[X] [Rune:] Rune of Charcoal [Structural]: Removes mundane impurities from metal in forges inscribed with or within rooms incribed with this Rune
[X] [Rune:] Rune of Tin [Structural]: Structures and rooms bearing this Rune have metal being worked on within made more malleable
[X] [Lesson:] Armour: Improve specialty Armour Runes

No. The Slayer Kings are more noteworthy because they divide themselves between two oaths and because the oath has continued past Baragor.

At least in my mind. Though admittedly this is still notable, but not in the whole "First Slayer King" more "even Kings are not immune to becoming Slayers."
